  • In this paper, we propose the digital video frame obfuscation method for intellectual property protection using the DC component of the intra frame and the motion vector of the inter frame at digital video encoding. The proposed method considers characteristics of the HVS (human visual system) which is sensitive at the low frequency and the middle frequency. This method makes the signal distorted as operating XOR between authentication signal and the DC coefficient of the intra frame including main information and the sign of the motion vector including edge motion, so that the video is normally displayed only when suitable authentication signal is applied.

  • Purpose: X-ray exposure should be clinically justified and each exposure should be expected to give patients benefits. Since dental radiographic examination is one of the most frequent radiological procedures, radiation hazard becomes an important public health concern. The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude of Korean dentists about radiation safety and use of criteria for selecting the frequency and type of radiographic examinations. Materials and Methods: The study included 267 Korean dentists. Five questions related to radiation safety were asked of each of them. These questions were about factors associated with radiation protection of patients and operators including the use of radiographic selection criteria for intraoral radiographic procedures. Results: The frequency of prescription of routine radiographic examination (an example is a panoramic radiograph for screening process for occult disease) was 34.1%, while that of selective radiography was 64.0%. Dentists' discussion of radiation risk and benefit with patients was infrequent. More than half of the operators held the image receptor by themselves during intraoral radiographic examinations. Lead apron/thyroid collars for patient protection were used by fewer than 22% of dental offices. Rectangular collimation was utilized by fewer than 15% of dental offices. Conclusion: The majority of Korean dentists in the study did not practice radiation protection procedures which would be required to minimize exposure to unnecessary radiation for patients and dental professionals. Mandatory continuing professional education in radiation safety and development of Korean radiographic selection criteria is recommended.

  • This paper dealt with the development of surge protection devices (SPDs) that can protect high speed computer network devices from overvoltages caused by switching operations or lightning surges. The designed SPD is a form of hybrid circuit which is composed of a gas tube having large current diverting capability, high response bi-directional avalanche diodes, and fast recovery diodes to reduce insertion loss on high frequency domain. Surge protection and signal transmission characteristics of the fabricated SPD was tested according to the international standards, IEC 61000-4-5 and IEC 61643-21. From the test results, the SPD is satisfied with the international standards and the high cut-off frequency was 204 MHz. Also, the SPD showed a good performance without an insertion loss on a field test of 100 Mbps class Local Area Network.

  • Digital watermarking has drawn extensive attention for protecting digital contents from unauthorized copying. This paper proposes a new watermarking scheme in frequency domain for copyright protection of digital audio. In our proposed watermarking system, the original audio is segmented into non-overlapping frames. Watermarks are then embedded into the selected prominent peaks in the magnitude spectrum of each frame. Watermarks are extracted by performing the inverse operation of watermark embedding process. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme is robust against various kinds of attacks such as noise addition, cropping, resampling, re-quantization, MP3 compression, and low pass filtering. Our proposed watermarking system outperforms Cox's method in terms of imperceptibility, while keeping comparable robustness with the Cox's method. Our proposed system achieves SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) values ranging from 20 dB to 28 dB. This is in contrast to Cox's method which achieves SNR values ranging from only 14 dB to 23 dB.

  • The situation of high-altitude electromagnetic pulses (HEMP) arises from high-altitude nuclear explosions. The HEMP situation can be simulated through the threat level investigation (TLI). In this paper, the induced voltage according to the antenna type of the tactical mobile radio communication system was measured and analyzed by TLI. Under the influence of HEMP, electronic equipment can be paralyzed or damaged. HEMP protection filters are commercially available for power lines and signal lines. However, commercialization of HEMP filters for antennas is insufficient, and even some of them exist for lightning protection. In order to make an appropriate HEMP protection filter according to the frequency and type of the antenna, the induced voltage was measured and the maximum induced voltage was analyzed through extrapolation. It was found that the measured induced voltage decreased as the frequency increased, such as in the HF, VHF and UHF bands of the measurement results.

  • There is a little research on DC arc detection when compared to a large number of literature and patents on AC arc detection. However, as DC energy sources such as photovoltaic power generation facilities and fuel cells are introduced, research on DC arc has become as important as AC arc detection in terms of circuit protection and system reliability enhancement. In this paper, we have developed an arc detection method for photovoltaic system using frequency analysis. Through various experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed method effectively detects the arc.

  • This paper proposes an new water mark embedding and extraction technique which extends the direct sequence spread spectrum technique. The proposed technique approximates the complexity of image and block in spatial domain using Laplacian filtering and watermark is adaptively embedded in the mid-frequency DCT components. Local parity bits are attached to higher-frequency DCT components and they are used to detect extraction errors and correct those errors. In extraction process the proposed method boosts the higher frequency components of image and extracts the watermark by demodulation and this information is verified and adjusted by parity bits. Experimental results show it is invisible and robust to several external attacks.

  • As many grid-connected photovoltaic power conditioning systems (PVPCS)are installed in many residential areas simultaneously, these have raised potential problems of network protection on electrical power system. One of the numerous problems is an Islanding phenomenon. In this paper, active frequency drift (AFD) method, one of the anti-islanding methods which is analyzed by current magnitude compensation and calculation of the fundamental component. Both harmonic component and RMS value of the output current for THD analysis are provided and verified by simulation.
