  • PURPOSES : The frequency and severity of natural disasters such as torrential rain or typhoons have become increasingly significant worldwide. Events such as summer typhoons and localized torrential downpour can cause severe damages to a residential area and road networks, resulting in serious harm to the daily lives of people, especially in rural areas by isolating residents from road networks. An immediate and emergency repair technology for the collapsed road networks is urgently needed. This study introduces a new technology to repair road bases or slopes. METHODS : The development of new technology for emergency and permanent repair consists of first, packing of cement paste-coated gravel, second, combining appropriate equipment, and third, conducting a field applicability test. In this research, the compressive strength of cement pastecoated gravel, gravel-netting concrete properties, and packing efficiency were determined, and a full scale field mock-up test was carried out. RESULTS : The compressive strength of the cement paste-coated gravel concrete satisfied the required limit for road base of 5 MPa after 7 days. With appropriate netting materials and packing size, gravel-netting concrete was successful up to a slope of 1:1.5. The full scale field mock-up test showed efficiency in the field and penetration resistance performance. CONCLUSIONS : The new technology of emergency and permanent repair for damaged road bases and slopes, introduced in this study, showed satisfactory performance. The technology is expected to be applied in the field when construction procedures and quality specifications are made.

  • A novel phase-locked loop(PLL) architecture with multiple charge pumps for fast locking has been proposed. The proposed PLL has three charge pumps. The effective capacitance and resistance of the loop filter can be scaled up/down according to the locking status by controlling the direction and magnitude of each charge pump current. The fast locking PLL that changes its loop bandwidth through controlling charge pumps depending on locking status has been designed. The capacitor usually occupying the larger portion of the chip is also minimized with the proposed scheme. Therefore, the PLL size of $990{\mu}m\;{\times}\;670{\mu}m$ including resistors and capacitors at the bandwidth of 29.9KHz has been achieved. It has been fabricated with 3.3V $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The locking time is less than $6{\mu}s$ with the measured phase noise of -90.45dBc/Hz @1MHz at 851.2MHz output frequency.

  • This study compares the net effect of wearing different shoulder/arm armor systems on garment impediment perception and wearer acceptability. Two independent variables in this study were armor systems and shoulder/ arm movements. There were four armor systems of control garment and arm armor systems A, B, and C as well as five types of arm/shoulder movements, (shoulder flexion, should extension, shoulder abduction, shoulder horizontal flexion, and shoulder horizontal extension). Ten male volunteers wearing size medium battle dress uniform (BDU) with recent relevant military experience participated in this study. The volunteers performed shoulder/arm movements (while wearing each armor treatments) and completed the garment impediment perception as well as wearer acceptability scales. The body areas of neck side, shoulder top, and armscye front showed the highest frequency of reported impediments. Resistance to movement and localized pressure were the most frequently mentioned types of impediment. The armor system B had the most areas of impediment, and was rated as more restrictive than the control garment and armor system A for each movement. For wearer acceptability, no significant differences were found between the control garment and armor system A for all eight items; this indicated that subjects did not perceive a difference between wearing the control garment and armor system A. There was a trend for wearer acceptability to decrease from wearing the control garment to armor systems A to C to B.

  • We present a quantitative analysis of a dipole antenna and its characteristics from the viewpoint of quantum mechanics. The method makes use of a Maxwell equation used in an existing antenna propagation formula. This includes radiation resistance, input reactance, and antenna efficiency as functions of frequency and antenna length. Particular attention is paid to the Schr$\ddot{o}$odinger equation. We accomplish E-field and H-field analyses of a dipole antenna by combining the Maxwell and Schr$\ddot{o}$odinger wave equations. When comparing the existing Maxwell wave equation with the Schr$\ddot{o}$odinger wave equation, quantum-electric movement is more accurate than using the Maxwell wave equation alone.

  • The present paper describes an application of UA(Uncertainty Analysis) to seakeeping model test, basically according to the Performance Test Code of ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineers), in which all the possible error sources involved in the preparation of test, calibration of instruments, data acquisition and analysis are quantified, and summed up with error propagation coefficients to the final uncertainties. The differences between the static test such as resistance and propulsion test and the dynamic test like seakeeping test are clearly identified during all the procedures of UA and asymmetric bias errors are considered. The DRE(data reduction equation) subject to present UA are the heave and pitch response amplitude operator and nondimensionalized absolute frequency. The usefulness of UA in seakeeping test were confirmed not only for quantifying errors and improving measurement accuracy but also for the validation of various seakeeping analysis tools.

  • Indium tin oxide(ITO) thin films were deposited on the glass substrates by radio-frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering method. The influence of rapid thermal annealing (RTA) treatment on the optical and electrical properties of the films were investigated for the purpose of fabricating plasma display signboard. Structural properties, surface roughness, sheet resistance and transmittance of the ITO film were analysed by using x-ray diffraction method, atomic force microscopy (AFM), four point prove, and ultraviolet-visible spectrometer, respectively. It was found that the RTA treatment increased the transmittance and decreased the resistivity of the ITO film, respectively. Furthermore, we successfully demonstrated the direct-current plasma signboard by using ITO electrode and phosphors.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of bone metabolic parameters between climbing exercise training and treadmill running training with alpha lipoic acid supplementation in ovariectomized rats. Fifty-six Sparague-Dawley, 8 weeks of age, were assigned into nine groups: normal control at pre-test (Pre-NC), normal control at post-test (NC), sham-sedentary (SS), ovariectomized-control (OVX-Con), ovariectomized-ALA inject (OVX-ALA), ovariectomized-climbing exercise (OVX-CE), ovariectomized-ALA inject+climbing exercise (OVX-ACE), ovariectomized-treadmill exercise (OVX-TE) and ovariectomized-ALA inject+treadmill exercise (OVX-ATE). The climbing exercise group voluntarily climbed the 200 cm tower to drinking water from the bottle set at the top of it. The treadmill exercise group was performed the 60 min treadmill running with grade 6-8%, and velocity 10-15 m/min. The frequency of exercise training was performed 6 days per wk in both training intervention. For the comparison of bone metabolic responses following to different training intervention, the strength, length and weight of femur, total bone density, bone mineral contents, deoxypyridioline, osteocalcin and parathyroid hormone, estradiol and lutenizing hormone were measured in this study. The body weight was higher in the OVX-Con, OVX-ALA and OVX-TE groups as compared to NC group. The total bone mineral density of OVX-ACE showed a higher value than SS, OVX-Con, OVX-ATE and OVX-TE. But urine and blood metabolic parameters showed no significance among groups. In conclusion, this study results suggested that climbing exercise training and alpha lipoic acid supplementation may an effective intervention for prevention of osteoporosis in ovriectomized rats.

  • In this paper, magnetic FeCoNi particles have been grown through electroless plating on the surface of graphene, and then this hybrid material has been dispersed by various surfactants to prepare films. The pyridine surfactant shows the highest dispersability and low surface resistance value (351 Ohm/sq) and the electromagnetic shielding ability at the frequency of 10 GHz. Specially, the evaporation of the pyridine during the drying process could be able to form the internal conductive network and high dispersion of FeCoNi on the surface of graphene.

  • The puropse of this study is to find out that whether the juvenile delinquency could be decreased by the revival of school uniform for the high school students. For this purpose, the difference and frequency of juvenile delinquency between uniformed students and none·uniformed students were surveyed. In addition, the relation among the students, social classes, receiving attitude for the sub-culture, with juvenile delinquency were also surveyed. For this study, 728 high school students were' studied with a questionaire. They were 328 ' uniformed students from 6 schools and 400 none-uniformed students from other 6 schools. The conclusions of this study are as follow: 1. The order of juvenile delinquency is resistance to their parents and teachers, cunning in examination, drinking, watching shameful video tapes, possession of dirty books and pictures, gambling, entering to thea rooms, billiard rooms, the prohibited cinema houses aild drinking houses, and smoking. The students' delinquency was chiefly misdeed against the public order and social position and most of them were without any victims. And there were no misdeed such as drug addiction, robbrry and bodily harm. 2. The difference of juvenile delinquency between uniformed and non·uniformed schools was not found. 3. More nisdeed were occurred when they were without uniform; especially in cases of entering to shameful video shops, drinking houses, tea rooms and billiard rooms. 4.The logical propriety that the juvenile delinquency would be decreased by putting on uniform to all students is scarce, because Ell misdeed were occurred when they were without uniform after school. Uniform were worn only when they go to school. 5. A negative effect between student's affection toward their parents and schools, and juvenile deliquency was found. Much they love their parents and schools, less misdeed occurred. 6. Positive effect between sub·culture and juvenile delinquency was found. The friendship with delinquent students gives a great influence to juvenile delinquency.

  • Round Robin Test (RRT) on ground response analyses was conducted for three sites in Korea based on several site investigation data, which include borehole logs with the N values from standard penetration test (SPT) for all three sites and additionally cone tip resistance profiles for two sites. Three input earthquake motions together with the site investigation data were provided for the RRT. A total of 12 teams participating in this RRT presented the results of ground response analyses using equivalent-linear and/or nonlinear method. Each team determined input geotechnical properties by using empirical relationships and literatures based on own judgment, with the exception of the input motions. Herein, the characteristics of input motions were compared in terms of the frequency and period, and the selection of the depth to bedrock, on which the motions is impinged, was discussed considering geologic conditions in Korea. Furthermore, a variety of geotechnical properties such as shear wave velocity profiles and soil nonlinear curves were investigated with the input properties used in this RRT.
