  • Lasers for optical broadband communication systems should have excellent frequency selectivity and modal stability. DFB(Distributed Feedback) lasers have low lasing frequency shift during high speed current modulation. In this paper, I have developed a simulation software and analysed threshold gain and lasing frequency of a lasing mode in longitudinal direction of an 1.55um DFB laser with two mirrors and without anti-reflection coatings, that have both an index- and gain-gratings. The grating phase on a left mirror face is fixed as π/2 and the grating phase on a right mirror face is varied. As the phases of the index and gain gratings on the right mirror facet are π and 0, κL should be in the range of 2~6 in order to enhance the frequency stability. In order to reduce the threshold current of a lasing mode, κL should be greater than 8, regardless of the grating phases on the mirror faces.

  • In this paper, a simplified type of adaptive controller using Nussbaum gain for the control of the spacecrapt with elastic appendages is suggested. This method doesn't need the information of the high frequency components in transfer function. While the pitch angle tracks the desired value by this method, the elastic modes are also stabilized. Only pitch angle and the pitch rate are used for the design of the output feedback controller. Especially all system parameters and the high frequency gain are assumed to be unknown. For design simplicity, a controller is designed by using only the linear part, and it's shown to satisfy the nonlinear system by the simulation with basic explanations. By using the Lyapunov function, the stability of the suggested algorithm is demonstrated, and also the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm is verified by showing the computer simulation results.

  • This paper presents the optimal motion control for 3-axis SCARA robot by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. Specifically, for optimal motion control of 3-axis SCARA robot, we study velocity profile based on finite jerk(the first derivative of acceleration) and optimal gain tunig based on frequency response method by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. The velocity optimization with finite jerk aims at generating the smooth velocity profile of robot. Velocity profile based on finite jerk is acquired and applied to 3-axis SCARA robot by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. DSA(Dynamic Signal Analyzer) for frequency response method is programed by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. We obtain the bode plot of transfer function about 3-axis SCARA robot by using DSA, and perform the gain tuning considering dynamic characteristic based on the bode plot. These experiments have shown that the proposed motion control can reduce vibration displacement and response error rate each 33.7% and 51.7% of 3-axis SCARA robot.

  • In this paper, local oscillator in K band using low frequency noise upconversion gain anaylsis was designed and measured. We extended Two Signal Method(TSM) to estimate upconversion gain and resulting phase noise. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, a free-running oscillator which had low upconversion gain was designed. The measured oscillation frequency was 23.42 GHz and phase noise at 1 MHz of offset was -105.2 dBc/Hz. Also, this oscillator was operated for subharmonic injection locked osci1lator(SILO). In this case, SILO showed ideal frequency multiplier phase noise characteristics at low subharmonic injection power level.

  • This paper proposes a low-voltage current-mode integrator for a continuous-time current-mode baseband channel selection filter. The low-voltage current-mode linear cascode integrator is introduced to offer advantages of high current gain and improved unity-gain frequency. The proposed current-mode integrator has fully differential input and output structure consisting of CMOS complementary circuit. Additional cascode transistors which are operated in linear region are inserted for bias to achieve the low-voltage feature. Frequency range is also controllable by selecting proper bias voltage. From simulation results, it can be noticed that the implemented integrator achieves design specification such as low-voltage operation, current gain, and unity gain frequency.

  • Usually, a LPF (low pass filter) is used in the feedback loop of a SRF (synchronous reference frame) - PLL (phase locked loop) system because the measured grid voltage contains harmonic distortions and sensor noises. In this paper, it is shown that the cut-off frequency of the LPF should be designed to suppress the harmonic ripples contained in the measured voltage. Also, a new design method for the loop gain of the PI-type controller in the SRF-PLL is proposed with consideration of the dynamics of the LPF. As a result, a better transient response can be obtained with the proposed design method. The LPF frequency and the PI controller gain are designed in coordination according to the steady state and dynamic performance requirements. Furthermore, in the proposed method, the controller gain and the LPF cut-off frequency are changed from their normal value to a transient value when a voltage disturbance is detected. This paper shows the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed methods through the computer simulations and experimental results.

  • This paper presents a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique of an LLC resonant converter for stable mode transition. LLC resonant converters used in various applications require high efficiency and high power density. However, because of circuit property, a wider voltage gain range equates to a greater circuit loss, so maintaining high efficiency at all voltage gain ranges is difficult. In this case, full bridge-half bridge mode transition method can be used, which maintains high efficiency even in a wide voltage gain range. However, this method causes damage to the circuit through overcurrent by the mode transition. This study analyzes the cause of the problem and proposes a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique to solve the problem. The proposed method verifies the stable transition through simulation analysis and experimental results.

  • We investigate BER (Bit Error Ratio) performance according to the gain of spatial and frequency diversities in uplink SC-FDMA of SIMO (Single Input Multiple Output) systems. The main results of the analysis in this paper are as follows. First, we prove that performance of integrated system for considering spatial and frequency diversity combining in parallel is equivalent with the performance of sequential system for performing diversity combining in sequence. By signal modeling, it is demonstrated that the performances of both systems are the same when the frequency diversity combining technique of the sequential system is equal to diversity combining technique of the integrated system, and spatial diversity combining technique of the sequential system is performed as MRC in advance of frequency diversity combining. Secondly, it is found that effect on the BER performance is different according to the gain of spatial and frequency diversities, respectively. The frequency diversity gain increases by increasing the number of subcarrier. It might affect the performance improvement of high SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) while it maintains gap between performances of ZF(Zero Forcing) and MMSE(Minimum Mean Square Error) in frequency diversity combining schemes. Also, spatial diversity gain increases as the number of receiving antennas increases. It means that it can reduce performance gap between ZF and MMSE in frequency diversity combining schemes by increasing the number of receiving antennas. In addition, it might affect the performance improvement of the whole SNR. Finally, through the analysis of performance according to the spatial diversity gain, the performance of ZF in frequency diversity combining is equal to the MMSE if the number of receiving antennas is 6 or more.

  • In this paper, the gain enhancement of an SDPA using a director and two parasitic patches is studied. The modified balun is used to increase the bandwidth, whereas the director and two parasitic patches are appended to the SDPA to enhance the gain in the middle and high frequency bands. The effects of the distance between the director and parasitic patches on the antenna performance are analyzed, and the SDPA with a gain over 7 dBi at 1.54-2.99 GHz band is designed. The proposed SDPA is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of $90mm(L){\times}135mm(W)$ in order to validate its performance. The fabricated antenna shows a frequency band of 1.56-3.10 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and it is confirmed by measurement that gain maintains over 7 dBi in the frequency range of 1.54-3.00 GHz.

  • In this paper, a broadband double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna using a 4×2 meander line array structure for maintaining 8 dBi gain was studied. The 4×2 meanderline array structure consists of a unit cell in the shape of a meanderline conductor, and it was placed above the second dipole antenna of the double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna. A double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna with generally used multiple strip directors was designed on an FR4 substrate with the same size, and the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics were compared. Comparison results showed that the impedance frequency bandwidth increased by 6.3% compared to when using the multiple strip directors, the frequency bandwidth with a gain of 8 dBi or more increased by 10.1%, and average gain also slightly increased. The frequency band of the fabricated antenna for a voltage standing wave ratio less than 2 was 1.548-2.846 GHz(59.1%), and gain was measured to be more than 8 dBi in the 1.6-2.8 GHz band.
