It is very important to design the input filter optimally in matrix converters. But, the input power factor is deteriorated in spite of the optimal filter design due to the existence of inductor and capacitor included in the filter, and it is hard to keep high power factor in the whole operating range which is one of the major advantages of the matrix converters because the power factor is changed according to the output frequency and the load current. In this paper, we introduce the new space vector modulation method which can preserve the input power factor almost unity even though the output load or the output frequency is varied. It is also presented how to implement the proposed method effectively.

This paper describes a novel approach for performing eigenvalue analysis and frequency domain analysis of multi-machine power system. The salient feature of this approach is a direct approach for constructing the state matrix equations of linearized power systems about its operating point using modular technique. These state matrix equations are then used to obtain eigenvalues and mode shapes of the system, and frequency response, or Bode, plots of selected transfer functions. The proposed program provides a flexible tool for systematic analyses of tuning PSS's parameters. The paper also presents its application to the analyses of a single-machine infinite bus system and two-area system with 4 machines.
Several damping materials have been employed to reduce the vibration of structures. While it is important to estimate the damping matrix when analyzing damped composite structures using the finite element method (FEM), at present, there is no FEM program that can correctly estimate the damping matrix. In this paper, a new global curve-fitting method is proposed for identifying the system parameters of non-proportional damping structures using a frequency response function. An experimental test for a cantilever beam attached damping material was carried out to verify the performance of the method proposed in this study.

In this paper a dynamic behavior of a cracked cantilever pipe conveying fluid with the moving mass is presented. It has the results focused on the frequency change. Based on the Euler-Bernouli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. When the velocity of the moving mass is constant, the influences of the crack severity, the position of the crack, the moving mass, and the coupling of these factors on the frequencies of the cantilever pipe are depicted.
This paper deals with a new single-phase Z-source matrix converter (SZMC) topology. Unlike other conventional configurations, the proposed SZMC is not only a step-up frequency converter but also a step-down frequency converter and a voltage boost capability. Thus, the proposed SZMC is also called a frequency step-up/down and voltage step-up converter. A safe-commutation strategy is used in SZMC as free-wheeling operation to eliminate voltage spikes on switches. The operating principles and experimental results of the proposed SZMC are presented.
The effects of an amphiphilic agent and the orientation of BN on the microwave dielectric properties of BN / polyvinyl butyral (PVB) composites were investigated as a function of the BN content in volume fractions from 0.1 to 0.5 ($V_f$). The plate-shaped BN samples were oriented in the PVB matrix by physical processes, in this case tape casting and laminate methods. With an increase in the BN content, the dielectric constant (K) increased because the K of BN was higher than that of the PVB. At the same BN content, composites with an in-plane orientation of the BN showed a higher dielectric constant than that of composites with a transverse orientation of the BN because the ceramics were oriented parallel to the electric field. All of the composites showed nearly constant K values ranging from 1 to 9.4 GHz, indicating good frequency stability over a wide frequency range. At the same frequency, the K values of the composites increased with an increase in the BN content.

We have studied sngle-frequency yield of 1.55${\mu}$m DFB lasers with uniform sinusoidal grating using an effective index transfer matrix method considering both threshold gain difference and spatial hole-burning effect. Optimum grating height and mirror reflectivities that maximize the single-frequency yield are found for a low-reflection (LR)/high-reflection(HR) mirror structure and a LR/as-cleaved miror structure for an assumed basic waveguide structure. LR/HR structure has a high yield of about 80% in a narrow range of grating height while LR/as-cleaved mirror structure has a low yield of about 50% in a relatively wide range of grating height. The effect of the low-reflection facet reflectivity is also studied.
In this paper, the realization of a hearing aid adaptively cancelling feedback noise was considered. Conventional least mean square method in time domain was transformed into frequency domain in order to minimize computational burden. The adaptive filter algorithm was evaluated by Matlab (Matrix laboratory), and it was confirmed by CSR 8675 Bluetooth DSP IC (Digital Signal Processor Integrated Circuit) chip firmware realization. Some remote control features by a smart phone was added to the smart hearing aid for user interface easiness.

In this paper a dynamic behavior of a double-cracked cnatilver beam with a tip mass and the moving mass is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the moving mass, a tip mass and double cracks have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever beam system by numerical method. The cracks section are represented by the local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. ,Therefore, the cracks are modelled as a rotational spring. Totally, as a tip mass is increased, the natural frequency of cantilever beam is decreased. The position of the crack is located in front of the cantilever beam, the frequencies of a double-cracked cantilever beam presents minimum frequency.

This paper introduces the concept of warped discrete cosine transform (WDCT) and an image compression algorithm based on the WDCT. The proposed WDCT is a cascade connection of a conventional DCT and all-pass filters whose parameters can be adjusted to provide frequency warping. In the proposed image compression scheme, the frequency response of the all-pass filter is controlled by a set of parameters with each parameter for a specified frequency range. For each image block, the best parameter is chosen from the set and is sent to the decoder as a side information along with the result of corresponding WDCT computation. For actual implementation, the combination of the all-pass IIR filters and the DCT can be viewed as a cascade of a warping matrix and the DCT matrix, or as a filter bank which is obtained by warping the frequency response of the DCT filter bank. Hence, the WDCT can be implemented by a single matrix computation like the DCT. The WDCT based compression, outperforms the DCT based compression, for high bit rate applications and for images with high frequency components.
