  • According to the standard guidelines of design flood (MLTM, 2012; MOE, 2019), the design flood is calculated based on past precipitation. However, due to climate change, the frequency of extreme rainfall events is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze future floods' volume by using climate change scenarios. Meanwhile, the standard guideline was revised by MOE (Ministry of Environment) recently. MOE proposed modified Huff distribution and new CN (Curve Number) value of forest and paddy. The objective of this study was to analyze the change of flood volume by applying the modified Huff and newly proposed CN to the probabilistic precipitation based on SSP and RCP scenarios. The probabilistic rainfall under climate change was calculated through RCP 4.5/8.5 scenarios and SSP 245/585 scenarios. HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Engineering Center - Hydrologic Modeling System) was simulated for evaluating the flood volume. When RCP 4.5/8.5 scenario was changed to SSP 245/585 scenario, the average flood volume increased by 627 ㎥/s (15%) and 523 ㎥/s (13%), respectively. By the modified Huff distribution, the flood volume increased by 139 ㎥/s (3.76%) on a 200-yr frequency and 171 ㎥/s (4.05%) on a 500-yr frequency. The newly proposed CN made the future flood value increase by 9.5 ㎥/s (0.30%) on a 200-yr frequency and 8.5 ㎥/s (0.25%) on a 500-yr frequency. The selection of climate change scenario was the biggest factor that made the flood volume to transform. Also, the impact of change in Huff was larger than that of CN about 13-16 times.

  • The goal of the current study is to investigate how the sound change is reflected in production or in perception, and what the effect of lexical frequency is on the loss of sound contrasts. Specifically, the current study examined whether the vowel length contrasts are retained in Korean speakers' productions, and whether Korean listeners can distinguish vowel length minimal pairs in their perception. Two production experiments and two perception experiments investigated this. For production tests, twelve Korean native speakers in their 20s and 40s completed a read-aloud task as well as a map-task. The results showed that, regardless of their age group, all Korean speakers produced vowel length contrasts with a small but significant differences in the read-aloud test. Interestingly, the difference between long and short vowels has disappeared in the map task, indicating that the speech mode affects producing vowel length contrasts. For perception tests, thirty-three Korean listeners completed a discrimination and a forced-choice identification test. The results showed that Korean listeners still have a perceptual sensitivity to distinguish lexical meaning of the vowel length minimal pair. We also found that the identification accuracy was affected by the word frequency, showing a higher identification accuracy in high- and mid- frequency words than low frequency words. Taken together, the current study demonstrated that the speech mode (read-aloud vs. spontaneous) affects the production of the sound undergoing a language change; and word frequency affects the sound change in speech perception.

  • Recently, the economic losses caused by inundation are increasing due to the urbanization and industrialization, i.e., intensive land utilization and concentration of population and properties. It is regarded that the role of the storm sewer systems in urban areas becomes more important as one of the effective countermeasures for reducing the inundation losses. In this study, the effects of rainfall design frequency enhancement on the construction cost of the storm sewer systems were analyzed by increasing the design frequency from the present design frequency of the sewer systems, which is 5~10 years, to 15 years, 20 years and 30 years. The change rate functions of the design discharge and construction cost based on the various design frequencies were derived by regression analysis. According to the analysis, change the rate of design discharge at 15, 20, 30 years rainfall design frequencies were increased by 10%, 17.1%, and 27.2%, respectively, when compared to that at 10 year frequency. Furthermore, it was found that by increasing the design frequency from 10 years to 15 years, 20 years and 30 years, the construction costs were increased by 5.0%, 8.0% and 12.4%, respectively. Finally, their reliabilities need to be tested by applying the rate functions to the real storm sewer districts.

  • Depending on the researcher, the effect of prestressing on the natural frequency of a PSC (prestressed concrete) structure appear to have been interpreted differently. Most laboratory tests on PSC beams available showed that the natural frequency is increased appreciably by prestressing. On the other hand, some other references based on field experience argued that the dynamic response of a PSC structure does not change regardless of the prestressing applied. Therefore, the deduced conclusions are inconsistent. Because an experiment with and without prestressing is a difficult task on a full size PSC bridge, the change in natural frequency of a PSC bridge due to prestressing may not be examined through field measurements. The study examined analytically the effects of prestressing on the natural frequency of PSC bridges. A finite element program for an undamped dynamic motion of a beam-tendon system was developed with additional geometric stiffness. The analytical results confirm that a key parameter in changing the natural frequency due to prestressing is the relative ratio of prestressing to the total weight of the structure rather than the prestressing itself.

  • A cantilever-type piezoelectric generator has advantages of simple structure, ease of fabrication and large displacement by transverse vibration of a beam. It is easy to control the natural frequency, and also possible to increase the output power by changing the length, width, and thickness of the generator. In particular, the length increases, the natural frequency sharply decreases, and vice versa. Hence, the natural frequency can widely be controlled by using change in the length of elastic body. In this paper, the generator was designed and fabricated to change natural frequency using the slides of the case. In addition, the generating characteristics were confirmed through finite element analyses and vibration experiment. As a result, the maximum output characteristics could be generated due to resonance phenomenon although any frequency of external force was applied.

  • In recent years, along with the development of ultrasonic probe with wide frequency range, the digitization of measuring instrument, and the development of operating process technics, it is possible to analyze ultrasonic pulse in frequency range. In this paper, applying to flaw model the ultrasonic spectroscopy method that can analyze ultrassonic pulse in frequency range, we examine the possibility of quantification of flaw and apply its result to the void and seperation in LSI package. Consequently, by using the change in frequency distribution and central frequency of sltrasonic pulse detected from flaw, the estimation of shape, size, and depth of flaw is possible. The change in central frequency is changed minutely by the sample materals and position of flaw, but changed mainly by the shape and size of flaw. And we can quantify the shape and size of flaw in LSI pakcage using the experimental result through flaw model.

  • Recently, multi-hole electrode RF capacitively coupled plasma discharge is being used in the deposition of microcrystalline silicon for thin film solar cell to increase the speed of deposition. To make efficient multi-hole electrode RF capacitively coupled plasma discharge, the hole diameter is to be designed concerning the plasma parameters. In past studies, the relationship between plasma parameters such as pressures and gas species, and hole diameter for efficient plasma density enhancement is experimentally shown. In the presentation, the relationship between plasma deriving frequency and hole diameter for efficient multi-hole electrode RF capacitively coupled plasma discharge is shown. In usual capacitively coupled plasma discharge, plasma parameter, such as plasma density, plasma impedence and plasma temperature, change as frequency increases. Because of the change, the optimum hole diameter of the multi-hole electrode RF capacitively coupled plasma for high density plasma is thought to be modified when the plasma deriving frequency changes. To see the frequency effect on the multi-hole RF capacitively coupled plasma is discharged and one of its electrode is changed from a plane electrode to a variety of multi-hole electrodes with different hole diameters. The discharge is derived by RF power source with various frequency and the plasma parameter is measured with RF compensated single Langmuir probe. The shrinkage of the hole diameter for efficient discharge is observed as the plasma deriving frequency increases.

  • Theoretical study of vibration distinctiveness of rotating cylindrical are examined for three volume fraction laws viz.: polynomial, exponential and trigonometric. These laws control functionally graded material composition in the shell radius direction. Functionally graded materials are controlled from two or more materials. In practice functionally graded material comprised of two constituent materials is used to form a cylindrical shell. For the current shell problem stainless steel and nickel are used for the shell structure. A functionally graded cylindrical shell is sanctioned into two types by interchanging order of constituent materials from inner and outer side for Type I and Type II cylindrical shell arrangement. Fabric composition of a functionally graded material in a shell thickness direction is controlled by volume fraction law. Variation of power law exponent brings change in frequency values. Influence of this physical change is investigated to evade future complications. This procedure is capable to cater any boundary condition by changing the axial wave number. But for simplicity, numerical results have been evaluated for clamped- simply supported rotating cylindrical shells. It has been observed from these results that shell frequency is bifurcated into two parts: one is related to the backward wave and other with forward wave. It is concluded that the value of backward frequency is some bit higher than that forward frequency. Influence of volume fraction laws have been examined on shell frequencies. Backward and forward frequency curves for a volume fraction law are upper than those related to two other volume fraction laws. The results generated furnish the evidence regarding applicability of present shell model and also verified by earlier published literature.

  • In this paper, a triple-mode frequency-tunable filter is proposed to meet the recent demands of various frequency bands of mobile communication services. This filter has a tunable structure that can adjust the resonance frequency using a variable capacitor. To improve the quality factor, a SIW(Substrate Integrated Waveguide) structure was introduced and a structure that induces three resonance modes was implemented through a circular hole located in the center. The change in electric field distribution and resonance frequency by the variable capacitor was simulated using HFSS, and the change in electric field distribution and resonance frequency of Triple Mode mode was confirmed.

  • Generally, stationary is considered as a basic assumption in frequency analysis. However, rainfall and flood discharge are changing due to the climate change and climate variability. Therefore, there is a new opinion that changing pattern of rainfall and flood discharge must be considered in frequency analysis. This study suggests the flood frequency analysis methodology using SIR algorithm which was developed from bootstrap could be used for considering climate change. Than is, SIR algorithm is selected for resampling method considering changing pattern of flood discharge and it has been used for resampling method with likelihood function. Resampled flood discharge data considering the increase of flood discharge pattern are used for parametric flood frequency analysis and this results are compared with frequency analysis results by Bootstrap and original observations. As the results, SIR algorithm shows the greatest flood discharge than other methods in all frequencies and this may reflect the increasing pattern of flood discharge due to the climate change and climate variability.
