Overwintering Capacity Affected by Seeding Time and Method of Chinese Milk Vetch, Astragalus sinicus L., in Upland Field

  • Overwintering capacity, closely related to winter hardiness, of Chinese milk vetch planted with different sowing times and sowing practices was investigated to improve the incorporation into cropping system in Korea. The tolerance to low temperature was evaluated with $LT_50$ using leaf disc leaching method. Dry weight of CMV was reduced remarkably with delayed planting from Sep. 5 to Oct. 20. The differences in tolerance to freezing temperature were not conspicuous among CMV genotypes, however, the differences between genotype (collections at different regions) were due to the plant architecture, mainly to the leaf angle. The crouching genotype collected at central region of Korean peninsula, which showed excellent freezing tolerant, has planophile leaves. The feature of internal constituents of CMV genotypes did not show any noticeable differences with respect to the freezing tolerance which evaluated by leaf disc leaching experiment. To overcome the poor overwintering capacity, tolerant genotype should be developed by selection with considering the plant architecture. The reduction of CMV growth during overwintering period was ameliorated with furrow-sowing under late-sown condition, therefore, when the CMV is inevitably sown late after recommended time, the seeds should be sown on furrow to overcome the cold stress.

동결온도와 수직구속응력 변화에 따른 모래와 알루미늄 재료의 접촉면에서 작용하는 동착강도 실험 연구 (Experimental Study on Adfreeze Bond Strength Between Frozen Sand and Aluminium with Varying Freezing Temperature and Vertical Confining Pressure)

  • 동토지역 말뚝기초의 지지력은 말뚝과 토사의 접촉면에서 작용하는 동착강도에 지배된다. 말뚝주변 토사 내 간극수의 동결로 인해 발현되는 동착강도는 동토지반 기초설계에 있어 가장 주요한 설계정수로 고려되고 있다. 지난 50년간 동착강도에 대한 연구가 다각도로 수행되어 왔으나, 대부분 동결온도와 지중온도를 고정조건으로 그 영향력을 고려하지 않은 채 토사종류, 말뚝종류, 재하속도 등의 영향인자를 분석하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 본 연구에서는 동결온도와 마찰면에 작용하는 수직구속응력을 주요 변수로 적용하고, 토사종류, 말뚝종류, 재하속도 등은 고정조건으로 적용하여 직접전단방식의 동착강도 측정실험을 수행하였다. 실험재료로는 표면 가공이 용이하여 거칠기를 정밀하게 조절할 수 있는 알루미늄 모형과 주문진표준사를 활용하였다. 실험은 상온(> $0^{\circ}C$), $-1^{\circ}C$, $-2^{\circ}C$, $-5^{\circ}C$, $-10^{\circ}C$의 동결온도및 1atm, 2atm, 3atm의 수직구속응력 조건에서 수행되었으며, 그 결과를 바탕으로 동결온도와 수직구속응력이 동착강도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 전반적으로 동착강도는 동결온도가 낮아질수록, 혹은 수직구속응력이 커질수록 증가하는 경향을 보였으며, 특히 단위온도차에 따른 동착강도의 증가율이 1)급증하는 구간과 2)점진적으로 감소하는 구간을 뚜렷하게 나타내며 변화하는 특성을 보였다. 또한, 동결온도의 저하에 따라 동착강도의 변화를 지배하는 요소가 마찰각에서 부착력으로 변화하며 수렴구간을 형성하는 경향을 나타냈다.

토질의 동결 융해 반복에 따른 사면의 안정성에 관한 연구 (Slope Stability Analysis according to Repeated Freezing and Thawing of the Soil)

  • 우리나라와 같이 4계절이 뚜렷한 지역은 동결 융해반복에 따른 강성도의 감소가 민간 시설물 인접 사면이나 산비탈면에 발생하였을 경우 안전율이 설계기준에 미흡하게 되는 현상이 발생되어 강우나 강설에 의한 산사태가 발생하여 큰 인명 및 재산피해로 이어질 우려가 있다. 이 연구에서는 동결 융해 반복에 따른 산지 사면의 안정성 변화를 알아보기 위하여 산지 사면의 표토에 분포하는 통일 분류법상의 SP와 SM계열의 흙시료를 채취하여 공시체를 제작하고 직접전단실험을 통하여 동토전단강도에 대한 특성을 분석하고, 수치해석적 방법을 활용하여 동결융해의 반복작용에 따른 화강풍화토의 강도감소특성과 흙시료의 동결 융해 적용시의 사면의 안정성의 변화를 검토하였다. 그결과 최대 전단응력은 약 10%정도의 감소율을 보였고, 사면 안정성해석결과 비동결시료에 비하여 요구안전율 이하의 경우가 있음을 확인하였다.

콘크리트포장의 줄눈의 잠김에 대한 연구 (A Study for Joint Freezing in Concrete Pavement)

  • 줄눈콘크리트포장의 줄눈은 온도 및 습도변화에 기인하여 발생하는 슬래브내에 무작위하게 발생하는 균열을 제어할 목적으로 설계된다. 이러한 인위적인 균열 (줄눈)은 자연발생적인 균열에 비하여 줄눈채움, 하중전달장치등의 보호대책을 강구하는 것이 용이하다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 줄눈채움의 잠재적인 이점은 표면수의 하부층으로의 침투로 인한 하부층의 약화 및 비압축성 물질 (작은 입자위 골재)의 줄눈내에 끼어듦으로 인한 스폴링을 방지하는데 있다. 합리적인 줄눈 채움의 설계를 위해서는 줄눈폭의 변화 (줄눈의 수평 움직임)의 산정이 중요한 입력요소이다. LTPP SMP 연구에 포함된 16개의 줄눈콘크리트포장의 줄눈의 수평움직임에 대한 장기 현장계측자료를 토대로 상당수의 줄눈에서 수평움직임을 허용하지 않고 있다는 것이 밝혀진바 있다. 이러한 현상을 줄눈잠김이라고 한다. 줄눈잠김이 발생하는 원인은 설계상에 계획된 줄눈부의 균열이 발생하지 않기 때문이라고 추정된다. 본 연구에서는 임의의 줄눈콘크리트포장에서 줄눈잠김의 비율을 예측할 수 있는 모델을 제시하였고 줄눈 잠김이 포장체의 성능에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다.

맥류의 한해와 내동성에 관하여 (Nature of Cold Injury and Resistance in Wheat and Barley)

  • There are several meterorolgical stresses in the winter cereal crops. Among these stresses, cold injury is one of the most important stresses for wheat and barley production in Korea. The reduction in grain yield of the wheat and barley due to cold injury has occurred almost every year in Korea. The objective of the study was to get the basic information in relation to the cold injury and to detect the method minimizing the damage of cold injury. When the air temperature was the ranges of -13$^{\circ}C$ to -15$^{\circ}C$, the soil temperature at the crown part of the plant was very stable, whereas in the ranges of -2$^{\circ}C$ to -3$^{\circ}C$ the soil surface temperature was more unstable and cold than air and subterranean temperatures. The different parts of the plant in wheat and barley possess the different levels of cold hardiness. In comparison to the cold hardiness of plant parts, the leaf and crown are the less sensitive to cold injury than root and vascular transitional zone. The type and extent of stress is determined by the redistribution pattern of water during freezing. These types from freezing processes were three types: a) Equilibrium freezing pattern b) Non -equilibrium freezing pattern, c) Non-equilibrium freezing pattern typical of tender tissues. Cold hardiness in wheat plants were more harder than barley plants at vegitative stage, but inverted at the reproductive stage. Injuries by low temperature during the seasons of barley cultivation in Korea were occured mainly in four stage; in the first and third stage, frost injury occurs, the second stage, freezing injury, and the fourth stage, chilling injury.

  • In fracture problems, stress intensity factors obtained theoretically and experimentally have been effectively utilized in the analytical evolution of the cracks effect. The effect of surface crack of a cylindrical and a hollow cylindrical bar is investigated, as well as the effect of the thickness of a hollow cylindrical bar and inclined crack of a hollow cylinder subjected to torsion moment. In this study, stress intensity factor Km of mode III which expresses the stress state in the neighborhood of a crack tip is used. stress analysis was conducted on the inside of hollow cylinder inthe axial direction of three dimensional crack tip subjected to torsion moment by combining the caustics method and the stress freezing method.

Thermal stress analysis around a cavity on a bimetal

  • The plates made of two materials joined to each other having the different coefficient of thermal expansions are frequently encountered in the industrial applications. The stress analysis of these members under the effect of high-temperature variation has great importance in design. In this study, the stress analysis of the experimental model developed for the problem considered here was performed by the method of photothermoelasticity. The thermal strains were formed by the mechanical way and these were fixed by the strain freezing method. For the stress measurements, the method of slicing is applied which provides three-dimensional stress analysis. The analytical solution in the literature was compared with the related stress distribution obtained from the model. Moreover, the axisymmetric finite element model developed for the problem was solved by ABAQUS and the results obtained here compared with those of the experimental model and the analytical solution. As a result of this study, this experimental method and numerical model can be used for these type of thermal stress problems which have not been comprehensively analyzed yet.

  • In this study, stress intensity factors KI, KII, KIII are existing at the same time to a hollow cylindrical bar of three dimension inclination crack. In order to investigate by experimentally the effect of the inclination angle $\psi$ of crack, artificial inclination cracks in the circumferential direction are put in the surface of a hollow cylindrical bar made by the epoxy-resin. Experimentally, stress analysis methods of stress intensity factors were proposed. But, suitable method are the caustic method and the photoelastic stress freezing method. The mixed mode of KI, and KII, were determined by the photoelastic method of the classical approach method and the FORTRAN language program of the used smallest square method.

Anti-stress Effect of Pyroligneous Liquid in SD Rats and ICR Mice

  • Pyroligneous liquid(PL) is produced by carbonizing Oak in 350-40$0^{\circ}C$. It is traditionally used for treating stress-related disorder, hepatic disease, immune disorder, G-I disorder and inflammatory disease. The aim of this study is to investigate anti-stress effects of PL. The experiments were performed with the use of young(9 weeks of age) male rats of SD strain and the male ICR mice (20-25 g). Animals of the normal group were not exposed to any stress and the control group were exposed to stress. The rats of the Ginseng, diazepam(BZ) and PL supplementary group were orally administered once a day 100 g of Ginseng extract-kg body weight, 5 mg of BZ/kg body weight and 1 ml of PL100 g body weight and then exposed to stress. The mice of the Ginseng, BZ and PL supplementary group were given water containing 100 g of Ginseng extract/100 ml potable water, 5 mg of BZ/kg 100 ml of drinking water and 10 ml of PL/100 ml of drinking water and exposed to stress. Animals were given materials for 7 days after stabilizing them, and then were given supplementary materials for 5 days with stress. They were stressed by immobilization for 30 minutes and then the animals were exposed to electroshocks for 5 minutes. We recorded stress-related behavioral changes of experimental animals by stressing them using the Etho-vision system and measured the levels of corticosterone in blood While stress suppressed locomotor activity of animals, PL-supplementation partially blocked the stress effect of locomotion in rats and mice, and also partially blocked stress-induced behavioral changes such as freezing, burrowing, smelling and rearing activity in rats and freezing, grooming, tailing and rearing in mice. The staying time of stressed rats and mice in open area decreased and in closed area it increased relatively in elevated plus maze test. However, these changes also partially were blocked by PL-supplementation. PL-supplementation decreased levels of blood corticosterone increased by stress in rats. These results suggest that PL protects partially the living organism from stress attack in some cases.
