A Parametric design study for free-formed super tall building using BIM (비정형 초고층 빌딩의 Parametric Design을 위한 BIM 활용에 관한 연구)

  • The Purpose of this study is to develop a design process of free-formed super tall buildings with parametric design approach using BIM. Before BIM tools like Revit was developed, it is considered as very time consuming process and requires extensive efforts and costs for making free-formed super tall building modeling. Current trends of free-formed super tall building are for proofing city's economic strength and symbol. New digital tools have been developed and used for pursuing many design methods for building design. In this study, BIM based Parametric design approach is studied to seek for possibility of generating free-formed super tall building fast, easily, and accurately.

  • In free-formed formwork, there is a problem that the productivity of the construction is deteriorated due to the expensive form, the long manufacturing period, and the high degree of construction difficulty. In order to solve these limitations, there is a need to research improvement from the phase of manufacturing free-formed form. Therefore, this study is to derive significant technical characteristics using QFD approach as a preliminary study to develop manufacturing system of the free-formed form for improving the productivity of free-formed construction formwork. This study employs the QFD to reflect users' needs into technical characteristics, and analyze correlation between users' requirements and the technical characteristics, then weights them by their importance.

  • Recent the free-formed architecture is smearing as a trend with the development of the digital equipment and technologies. The development of new method based on digital technology is required for the free-formed structure,, because the conventional construction methods are limited to shorten the construction period and to ensure the construction quality. Particularly, the development of the new method for the free-formed concrete structure is important. In this study, the developed method of the T-shape lightweight steel fabricated using CNC can control the geometries of the free-formed concrete structure based on the digital design. Also, new method is effective to ensure the precision of the construction and economic than the conventional construction methods.

  • According to the rapid development of digital technology, the free formed buildings with complex and various curved surfaces are being constructed. Most of the external cladding of free formed buildings have been applied materials such as metal, glass, FRP, GFRC, etc. However, these materials have many disadvantages such as a complicated manufacturing process for realizing 3D irregular shape and an increase in production period and cost. Therefore, the studies for UHPC which is an optimized material for overcoming this problem for a long time in overseas. This study reviewed the remodeling construction of Samsung-dong KEB Hana Bank appling the exterior curved UHPC panel for the first time in Korea. As a result, we confirmed the possibility of UHPC panels with various free formed shapes.

  • The market of digital avatar with internet and digital technology is increasing rapidly. The users want to express any free-formed motion of their avatars in the cyber space. The user s motion capturing method as the avatar's motion can express any free-formed motion of the avatar in real-time but the methods are expensive and inconvenient. In this paper, we proposed a new method of expressing any free-formed motion of the avatar in real-time. The proposed method is an algorithm for real-time control of a 3D avatar in symmetry-formed free motion. Specially, the algorithm aims at the motion control of a 3D avatar for online dancing games. The proposed algorithm uses the skeleton character model and controls any one of two hands of the character model by a joystick with two sticks. In the symmetry-formed motion, the position and orientation of one hand can determine the position and orientation of the other hand. And the position and orientation of a hand as an end-effector can determine the pose of the arm by Inverse Kinematics. So the algorithm can control the symmetry-formed free motions of two arms by one joystick with two sticks. In the dance game, the algorithm controls the arm motion by the joystick and the other motion by the motion captured DB.

TRANSIENT FLOW SIMULATION OF A MIXER WITH FREE SURFACE (자유표면을 고려한 교반기 내부의 비정상 유동해석)

  • In the present study, a numerical analysis of transient mixer flow is performed considering free surface formation. The flow patterns and free surface shape in a mixers formed by flat paddle and pitched paddle impellers are predicted. In a flat paddle mixer, two flow circulation regions are formed due to strong radial flow, whereas one large circulation is formed in a pitched paddle mixer due to axial downward flow. These differences affect the free surface evolution and shape. It is seen from the results that a flat paddle mixer gives deeper free surface at center region than a pitched paddle mixer. The free surface of 8-blades-flat-paddle mixer is also simulated to compare with the available experimental and simulation results. The present computational results agree reasonably well with the experimental data.

  • This experiment was attempted to investigate the effect of removal of suboesophageal ganglion of Bombyx mori on the changes of free amino acids and fluorescent substances by means of paper chromatography. 1. There are no differences of quantity and component of free amino acids of formed eggs in moths between treatment and control. 2. Riboflavine content of formed eggs in treated moths is less than that of formed eggs in untreated moths. 3. Fluorescent substance which appeared on Rf value 0.06 was not detected in formed eggs of treated moths but found in those of control. 4. Fluorescent substance which appeared on Rf value 0 was noted in formed eggs of treated moths but not in those of control.

3D Cutting Machine of EPS Foam for Manufacturing Free-Formed Concrete Mold (비정형 콘크리트 거푸집 제작을 위한 EPS Foam의 3D 가공기계)

  • We used a construction method using a CNC milling machine, where free-formed molds were made by cutting EPS (Expanded PolyStyrene) foam with the CNC machine, to build free-formed buildings. CNC milling is off-the-shelf technology that can easily cut EPS foam; however its production cost is too high and the time to manufacture an EPS mold is too long. This paper proposes a novel cutting machine with a fast and cost effective mechanism to manufacture EPS concrete molds. Our machine comprises a cutter and Cartesian coordinate type moving mechanism, where the cutter cuts EPS foam using a hotwire in the shape of '$\sqcap$' and is capable of adjusting its cutting angle in real-time while keeping its cutting width. We proved through cutting experiments on the CNC machine that cutting time was greatly shortened compared to the conventional method and that the resulting concrete mold satisfied manufacturing precision.

  • In this paper, an efficient reverse engineering method for free-formed surfaces is proposed based on the integration of a repetitive digitizing method and vision system. In recent reverse engineering process, the equi-interval digitization method is being used since the surface information is not known. If more accurate results are required, the number of measuring point should be increased appropriately. Thus, such measuring process tends to result in too dense data including useless information, and cause excessive measuring time. This problem can be improved by applying repetitive digitizing method and image process technique, which is proposed in this paper. The proposed methods are validated through appropriate simulation and experiments.

  • Compensation of probe radius is required for accurate measurement in metal working industry. Compensation involves correctly measuring data on the surface in the amount of radius of the touch probe with a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Mechanical parts with free-formed curves and surfaces are complex enough so that accurate measurement and compensation are indispensable. This paper presents necessary algorithms involved in the compensation of the probe radius for free-formed curves and surfaces. Application of pillar curve is the focus for the compensation.
