  • A stabilized incompressible smoothed particles hydrodynamics (ISPH) method is utilized to simulate free falling rigid body into water domain. Both of rigid body and fluid domain are modeled by SPH formulation. The proposed source term in the pressure Poisson equation contains two terms; divergence of velocity and density invariance. The density invariance term is multiplied by a relaxed parameter for stabilization. In addition, large eddy simulation with Smagorinsky model has been introduced to include the eddy viscosity effect. The improved method is applied to simulate both of free falling vessels with different materials and water entry-exit of horizontal circular cylinder. The applicability and efficiency of improved method is tested by the comparisons with reference experimental results.

  • This study was obtained the pressure distribution of a falling body that is deadrise angle $0^{\circ}$ and deadrise angle $5^{\circ}$ upon a water surface by the experiment with the impact machine. The theoretical equation was obtained the air region and the interface and the water region which devide 3 parties between the body and the water surface for an investigation of the complete phenomena. Pressure distributions and histories compare favorably with available experimental data. The numerical results are similar to the experimental results for the impact force type with $Fo(1+cos{\pi}t/tc)$.

  • In this paper, numerical and experimental studies are performed to investigate the liquid impact on a free falling wedge. In the numerical simulation, the structure is assumed to be rigid and the elastic response is ignored. The fully nonlinear coupling between wedge and water is considered by an auxiliary function method based on the Boundary Element Method (BEM). At the intersection of the wedge surface and liquid surface, two coincident nodes are used to decouple the boundary conditions. The Eulerian free surface conditions in the local coordinate system are adopted to update the deformed free surface. In the experiments, five pressure sensors are fixed on each side of the wedge which is released from an experimental installation. Steel and aluminum wedges that have different structural elasticity are used in the experiments to investigate the influence of structural elasticity on the impact force. Numerical results are compared with experimental data and they agree very well. The influence of fluid gravity, body mass, initial entry speed and deadrise angle on the impact pressure are further investigated.

  • When a body falls in fluid, the body often experiences autorotations, namely, various kind of rotating motions, such as tumbling, flat spin and coming. Tumbling is a rotating motion with an axis perpendicular to a falling direction. Tumbling is a very important phenomenon in aeronautical and space engineering, ballistics and meteorology. For example, when an satellite re-en-tries into the atomosphere, its body collapses into many fragments which are disperse in the wide range of field. Some fragments fall in tumbling motion. Then tumbling is useful to predict fragment's motion.(omitted)

  • A mathematical model, UNSATR which predicts the seepage flow through the body of dike especially under the tidal fluctuation has been developed. This model has been revised from UNSAT2 model which was developed on the basis of the saturated-unsaturated theory by Neuman. UNSATR has been verified and applied to the hydraulic model in order to estimated the seepage quantity, the formation of free water surface etc. The results lead to the following conclusions : 1. Seepage rates between the mathematical model and hydraulic model experiment are very similar to each other both in constant and transient water level conditions. 2. The lapsed time to be steady state of the free water surface becomes late as the tidal levels are relatively low mainly due to the seepage flow from the unsaturated zone of the body of dike. 3. Under the transient state of water levels, owing to the flow from the unsaturated domain, streamlines crossing to the free water surface are found and time lag during a falling tide may allow the free water surface inside the body of dike to stand at a high level than the outside water level. 4. The utility and validity of UNSATR model are convinced when the analyses on seepage problems through the porous embankment of the soil structures on the conditions of the steady and unsteady states are carried out.

  • The hydrodynamic impact problem was studied from 1929 to recent. Especially, Impact pressure is important for the design of the ships and offshore structure and spacecrafts, and under weapons. A ship traveling at high speed or in heavy sea has its bow and bottom damaged by high pressure caused by impact with and detachment from the water surface. Considerable impact may also occur when large waves hit the cross member or deck plate of an offshore structure within the splash zone. Many engineering cases require consideration of impact pressure, the movement of objects and change of the flow field. This study was obtained the pressure distribution of a falling body that is deadrise angle $0^{\circ}$ and deadrise angle $5^{\circ}$ upon a water surface by the experiment with the impact machine. The theoretical equation was obtained the air region and the interface and the water region which devide 3 parties between the body and the water surface for an investigation of the complete phenomena. • If we use a smartphone to analyze and detect falling, it is a huge advantage that the person with a sensor attached to one's body is free from awareness of difference and limitation of space, unlike attaching sensors on certain fixed areas. In this paper, we suggested effective posture analysis of smartphone users, and fall detecting system. Suggested algorithm enables to detect falling accurately by using the fact that instantaneous change of acceleration sensor is different according to user's posture. Since mobile applications working on smart phones are low in compatibility according to mobile platforms, it is a constraint that new development is needed which is suitable for sensor equipment's characteristics. In this paper, we suggested posture analysis algorithm using smartphones to solve the problems related to user's inconvenience and limitation of development according to sensor equipment's characteristics. Also, we developed fall detection system with the suggested algorithm, using hybrid mobile application which is not limited to platform.

  • Numerical studies on the hydrodynamics of a freely falling rigid sphere in bounded and unbounded water domains are presented having investigation on the drag coefficient, normalized velocity, surface pressure and skin friction coefficient as a function of time. Two different conditions of the bounded and unbounded domains have been simulated by setting the blockage ratio. Four cases of bounded domains (B.R. = 1%, 25%, 45%, 55%, 65% and 75%) have been taken, whereas the unbounded domain has been considered with 0.01%. In the case of the bounded domain (higher values of B.R.), a substantial reduction in normalized velocity and increase in the drag coefficient have been found in presence of the bounded domain. Moreover, bounded domains also yield a significant increase in the pressure coefficient when the sphere is partially submerged, but the insignificant effect is found on the skin friction coefficient. In the case of the unbounded domain, a significant reduction in normalized velocity occurs with a decrease in Reynolds number (Re) and also increase in the drag coefficient.
