  • Modern day networks are increasingly moving towards peer to peer architecture where routing tasks will not be limited to some dedicated routers, but instead all computers in a network will take part in some routing task. Since there are no specialized routers, each node performs some routing tasks and information passes from one neighbouring node to another, not in the form of dumb data, but as intelligent virtual agents or active code that performs some tasks by executing at intermediate nodes in its itinerary. The mobile agents can run, and they are free to d other tasks as the agent will take care of the routing tasks. The mobile agents because of their inherent 'intelligence'are better able to execute complex routing tasks and handle unexpected situations as compared to traditional routing techniques. In a modern day dynamic network users get connected frequently, change neighbours and disconnect at a rapid pace. There can be unexpected link failure as well. The mobile agent based routing system should be able to react to these situations in a fact and efficient manner so that information regarding change in topology propagates quickly and at the same time the network should not get burdened with traffic. We intend to build such a system.

  • Background: Single pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) is commonly used as a salvage treatment in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer and primary peritoneal adenocarcinoma (PPA) with a satisfactory outcome. However, the data for second generation PLD administered in this setting are still limited. We conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the outcome of patients who received single-agent second generation PLD (LIPO-DOX) after the development of clinical platinum resistance. The study period was between March 2008 and March 2013. LIPO-DOX was administered intravenously 40 $mg/m^2$ every 28 days until disease progression, but for not more than six cycles. The response rate was evaluated using the Gynecologic Cancer Intergroup (GCIG) criteria while the toxicity was evaluated according to WHO criteria. Twenty-nine patients met the inclusion criteria in the study period with an overall response rate of 13.8%. The median progression free survival and overall survival were three and eleven months, respectively. With the total of 96 cycles of chemotherapy, the patients developed grades 3 and 4 hematologic toxicity as follows: anemia, 0%, leukopenia, 9.6%, neutropenia, 32.3% and thrombocytopenia, 0%. In conclusion, the single agent second generation PLD demonstrated modest efficacy in patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer and PPA without serious toxicity.

  • Fabrication possibility of low-shrinkage alumina without oxidation and wetting agent was presented on the basis of observation about oxidation behavior, microstructure and physical characteristics of such reaction agents free Al2O3-Al system. The composition less than Al 10w/o where Al can act as a sintering agent for Al2O3 was excluded. Under the condition of present experiments oxidation of Al2O3-Al system was dependent not on holding time but mainly on oxidation temperature. In thes case of Al powder not comminuted effectively during powder mixing of Al2O3-Al, columnar structure which would act as a hindrance to the densification during sintering developed more during oxidation with higher Al contents, and which made the fabrication of low-shrinkage Al2O3 ceramics impossible. If Al powder was comminuted effectively due to co-mixed Al2O3 characteristics, densification was improved because of no columnar structure and made the fabrication of sintered body with -2.7% dimensional change and 81% relative density possible. As a result, it is possible to fabricate dense low-shrinkage Al2O3 ceramics without oxidation and wetting agent under conditions such as smaller particle size of Al, Al contents below 50v/o, higher green density of Al2O3-Al compact and the use of Al2O3 powder used for high-density ceramics.

  • Whole cell of Phanerochaete chrysosporium with reducing agent was applied to verify the degradation mechanism of aromatic compounds derived from lignin precisely. Unlike the free-reducing agent experiment, various degraded products of aromatic compounds were detected under the fungal treatment. Our results suggested that demethoxylation, $C_{\alpha}$ oxidation and ring cleavage of aromatic compounds occurred under the catabolic system of P. chrysosporium. After that, degraded products stimulated the primary metabolism of fungus, so succinic acid was ultimately main degradation product of lignin derived-aromatic compounds. Especially, hydroquinone was detected as final intermediate in the degradation of aromatics and production of succinic acid. In conclusions, P. chrysosporium has an unique catabolic metabolism related to the production of succinic acid from lignin derived-aromatic compounds, which was meaningful in terms of lignin valorization.

  • Electrodeposition behaviors of Pd-Ni alloys were investigated from the polarization curves in a solution containing ethylenediamine as complexing agent. The microstructure and hardness of electrodeposited Pd-Ni alloys were also characterized. Codeposition of Pd-Ni alloys was successfully performed in the wide current density ranging from 2 to $5000A{\cdot}m^{-2}$ because the deposition potential of Pd became close to that of Ni in the ethylenediamine-contained solution. It was also found from X-ray diffraction patterns that the solid solution between Pd and Ni was formed with variation of the composition of alloys. The measured hardness of Pd-Ni alloys increased with increasing the contents of Ni due to solid solution strengthening and grain refinement. The electrodeposited Pd-Ni alloys also exhibited a crack free smooth surface morphology from the SEM observation.

  • For advanced healthcare services, a variety of agents should maintain reliable connections with the manager and communicate personal health and medical information. The ISO/IEEE 11073 standards provide convenient interoperability and the optimized exchange protocol (OEP) supports efficient communication for devices. However, the standard does not specify secure communication, and sensitive personal information is easily exposed through attacks. Malicious attacks may lead to the worst results owing to service errors, service suspension, and deliberate delays. All possible attacks on the communication are analyzed in detail, and the damage is specifically identified. In this study, novel secure communication schemes over the 20601 OEP are proposed by introducing an authentication process while maintaining compatibility with existing devices. The agent performs a secure association with the manager for mutual authentication. However, communication with mutual authentication is not completely free from attacks. Message encryption schemes are proposed for concrete security. The authentication process and secure communication schemes between the secure registered agent (SRA) and the secure registered manager (SRM) are implemented and verified. The experimental analysis shows that the complexities of the SRA and SRM are not significantly different from those of the existing agent and manager.

  • Deacetylated chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) had effective antiprotozoal activity against Trichomonas vaginalis (Minimal Inhibitory Concentration, MIC 0.25%), whereas 80% acetylated cas showed no antiprotozoal activity (MIC > 1 %). an the other hand, 80% acetylated cas showed growth stimulatory activity against the protozoa. When T. vaginalis was treated with 98% deacetylated COS at 0.25% concentration, the viability of the protozoa was rapidly decreased within 15 min, and the protozoa completely died within 40 min. Ultrastructural changes of trichomonads treated with COS included a loss of defined nuclear membrane and endoplasmic reticulum membranes, an increase in the number of free ribosome, vacuolation, and ultimately lysis of the cell membrane. These results indicate that deacetylated COS can be used as an antitrichomonal agent, although its lethal mechanism is not known.

  • In vitro cultures of watermelon were treated with antimitotic agent colchicine to induce ploidy alterations, particularly the induction of tetraploids. Explants cotyledon, embryonic end of seed, transverse sections of epicotyl and hypocotyl were cultured on MS media supplemented with BA ($1{\mu}M$) and colchicine ($0.01\%,\;0.05\%\;and\;0.1\%$). Explants were subcultured on colchicine free media after 4 and 7 days. Colchicine had negative effect on in vitro regeneration but this exhibited explants related response. However, hypocotyl section of seedlings induced maximum callus on $0.01\%$ colchicine. Shoot proliferation was more in cotyledon explants cultured on colchicine ($0.01\%$) for four days. Maximum root induction and root number were recorded in embryonic end explants. Overall, cotyledon and embryonic end explants, and low colchicine concentration ($0.01\%$) was found optimal in watermelon regeneration.

  • A mathematical model has been developed for an analytical calculation of distribution coefficient (K$_1$) in the presence of a chelating agent, The newley formulated K$\_$D/ is given as a function of the mole fraction of a free metal ion in the solution, ${\beta}$, and will serve as an alternative for the tedious individual measurements of K$\_$D/. This formulation will be used to analyze the effects of the presence of chelating agents on the adsorption capacity of geologic media such as clay minerals and soils. The present method may be a significant progess for the evaluation of the transport phenomena and separation processes of metal ions (or radionuclides) in the presence of chelating agents.

  • A rapid preconcentration method based on solvent extraction is described for the determination of gold by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Trace amounts of gold was extracted as a new chelating agent, 3-thiophenaldehyde-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone from pH 4.0 in diisobutyl ketone. The method is simple, fast, free from the effect of many interfering ions and has a high sensitivity and a good precision. Gold is quantitatively separated and concentrated from the elements in standard sample, and the value of the recovery was 91.7 and 108.3% by the proposed method.
