  • In this paper the wheeled mobile robot is studied. The kinematic and dynamic modeling of the robot is presented via LPD(Linear Parameter Dependent) framework. A path-planning algorithm which is optimized in the sense of robot mobility and distance is presented. And by using PI controller we show that the presented algorithm and model is work very well in the computer simulation and experiment.

  • Industrial equipment reliability improvement and maintenance is gaining attention as the next great opportunity for manufacturing productivity improvement. Reactive maintenance is expensive because of extensive unplanned downtime and damage to machinery. To avoid such an unplanned machine downtime, it is needed to use proactive maintenance approach by either using historical maintenance data or by sensing machine conditions. This paper discusses failure diagonosis and prediction based on the condition-based maintenance and reliability technique. Thus, by enabling such a framework, it can bring us more efficient planning and execution of maintenance to reduce costs and/or increase profits.

  • In spite of today's rapid growth of world cruise industry, little academic attention has yet been given to the decision making problems for cruise operations. This research deals with strategic cruise itinerary planning that any cruise company should face. Increasing demands for international itineraries and redeployments of cruise ships are adding complexity to the itinerary planning. A slight modification of the conventional PERT/CPM network is adopted. to cope with this complexity systematically. By this, the concept of candidate itinerary network is suggested for each cruise ship. To integrate these candidate itinerary networks for each ship in a single framework, an integer programming model has been developed to find the optimal itinerary planning for any fleet of cruise ships. A numerical example, based on real cruise itinerary practices, is tested to validate and interpret the model.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the supply status and planning trend of North Korean housing through analysis on the North Korean architecture specialized media data. The flat composition is changing and the living room is becoming the center of the houses. Also, in the urban areas, the standard apartment type is four apartments in a row and the plan form is getting diversified into circle type, Y type, and irregular type. On the other hand, in the rural areas, two houses in a row and single house are typical and the change in planning scale and space structure are not substantial. Since the 2000s, design changes have been made to emphasize the third dimensional structure of buildings such as the elliptical houses and L-shaped houses. Furthermore, 8~10 households are located on one floor which leads to the tendency of the building enlargement. In terms of house size, a square concept was introduced to replace the initial 2~3 room concept and the basic module of the room planning the 3 room house based on $3m{\times}3m$. However, there seems to be no standard house size, and the house size may differ depending on the social classandregion. In the early 1980s, when there was focus on the apartment complex construction, the high-rise apartment buildings of 30~40 floors was planned. However, during the Pyongyang redevelopment project, apartments of more or less than 10 floors were built and row-houses of more or less than 4 floors were built. In terms of the complex scale, a lot of small complexes of around 300 households are emerging after 2010. The construction projects are mainly limited to specific regions such as Pyongyang and Samjiyeon, and also limited to specific classes such as the workers and soldiers initially and the scientists lately. In addition, living boundary composition and ancillary facilities for sufficient green area ratio securement and the people of North Korea are maintained consistently. In recent years, the specialized floor planning such as solar house and the house for the disabled people, framework houses for redevelopment business, and multi-storied house construction technology are also emerging.

  • This study presents a systematic framework to derive the best values of design and planning parameters for low impact development (LID) practices. LID was developed to rehabilitate the distorted hydrological cycle due to the rapid urbanization. This study uses Water Management Analysis Module (WMAM) to perform sensitivity analysis and multiple scenario analysis for LID design and planning parameters of Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). This procedure was applied to an urban watershed which have experienced rapid urbanization in recent years. As a result, the design and planning scenario derived by WMAM shows lower total flows and peak flow, and larger infiltration than arbitrary scenarios for LID design and planning parameters. In the future, economic analysis can be added for this application in the field.

  • As the importance of the biohealth industry has recently increased, innovative government support is required. However due to the limitation in the support framework, a complementary support system for commercialization is needed. This study examines the concept of TRL which the existing support being following, and investigates domestic support system and overseas support cases. It points out that the current TRL-based government support policy has limitations for the commercialization of the biohealth industry, which requires a lot of time and investment. The new concept of the support system reflecting the characteristics of the bio-industry and solving the problems of late R&D stage was proposed and connected with the policy direction. It is meaningful that the role as a guideline for overcoming the gap between research and industry for the commercialization of the biohealth.

  • This study is a basic research for the development of 'Marginal Village Policy' in response to the hollowing-out of rural areas. For this purpose, the viewpoint of "Regeneration" & "Reconstruction" of the "Marginal Village Theory" and the recent "Rural Planning Theory of Evacuation" in Japan were reviewed. The background and trends of Marginal Village policy in Japan were also investigated. And based on this, the implications and future tasks for Korea were summarized as follows; (1)It is necessary to be interested in the disappearance of villages and marginal villages and to form positive discussions and social consensus. (2)Continuous field investigation and management of changes in population and village functions at regional and village level are required. (3)In addition to increasing the importance of depopulation problems, it is necessary to establish 'marginal villages' as a public policy target. (4)It is necessary to review and consider the viewpoint of reconstruction along with regeneration. (5)It is necessary to pay attention that the software project is expanded, and the regeneration & reconstruction policies of the rural villages are aimed at revitalizing the rural community. (6)It is necessary to consider the possibility of applying 'spacial construction' along with the expansion of the academic debate on the 'rural planning theory of evacuation'. On the basis of this, in this study, rural villages were classified into 'continuous villages', 'semi-marginal villages' and 'marginal villages' according to the degree of marginalization, and the basic framework of 'Marginal Village Policy' was proposed, which is to encourage the differentiated policies of 'continuous villages' by 'rural village policy', 'semi-marginal villages' and 'marginal villages' by 'marginal village policy'.

  • This paper has focused on the middle term process planning around quays based on the prefixed long-term plan of the product mixed ships. Recently, the order rate of high add-value ships in domestic shipyards has been sharply increased and the spending time at quays is accordingly on an increasing trend. For proper and practical process planning related to quays, it has to be closely connected with a long-term plan and product calendar, erection network and result of ship allocation around quays. Moreover, it is also required to include the integrated consideration of the whole process of a yard, each ship, and each team respectively. The most distinguishing feature of this study is that it would run on the ship allocation simulator and GIS framework in order not to be limited to the specific one yard and the readers can figure out the optimization formulation containing the work load leveling and a different approach from PERT/CPM. The proposed approach reflected all requirements from the department of process planning and management in a shipyard, and the analysis of the results has explained its performance of the optimization result with the examples of total 43 ships under construction from 2008 to 2013.

  • In Korea, demand for the Social Overhead Capital(SOC) projects has tremendously increased since 1970's and is expected to keep growing to support national economic development as well as to enhance the quality of life. In these projects, project planning and feasibility study phase is one of the most critical phases because it determines the success of later phases. However, we have experienced trial and errors repeatedly such as cost overruns and schedule delays in many of the SOC projects. These problems can be prevented or at least expected in the earlier phase and it requires well-developed and standardized project planning process and systems before design, procurement, and construction phases begin. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to investigate current problems in this phase and provide framework for a model for the project planning management which can be used for the SOC projects to insure the whole project success.
