  • Motion detection algorithms based on difference image are classified into background subtraction and previous frame subtraction. 1) Background subtraction is a convenient and effective method for detecting foreground objects in a stationary background. However in real world scenarios, especially outdoors, this restriction, (i.e., stationary background) often turns out to be impractical since the background may not be stable. 2) Previous frame subtraction is a simple technique for detecting motion in an image. The difference between two frames depends upon the amount of motion that occurs from one frame to the next. Both these straightforward methods fail when the object moves very "slightly and slowly". In order to efficiently deal with the problem, in this paper we present an algorithm for motion detection that incorporates "reflected light area" and "difference image". This reflected light area is generated during the frame production process. It processes multiplex difference image and AND-arithmetic of bitwise. This process incorporates the accuracy of background subtraction and environmental adaptability of previous frame subtraction and reduces noise generation. Also, the performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by the performance assessment of each method using Gait database sample of CASIA.

  • This paper first proposes the speech recognition algorithm by detection of the speech and noise sections at each frame using a neural network training by back-propagation algorithm, then proposes the spectral subtraction method which removes the noises at each frame according to detection of the speech and noise sections. In this experiment, the performance of the proposed recognition system was evaluated based on the recognition rate using various speeches that are degraded by white noise and car noise. Moreover, experimental results of the noise reduction by the spectral subtraction method demonstrate using the speech and noise sections detecting by the speech recognition algorithm at each frame. Based on measuring signal-to-noise ratio, experiments confirm that the proposed algorithm is effective for the speech by corrupted the noise using signal-to-noise ratio.

  • This paper first proposes a classification algorithm which detects a voiced, unvoiced, and silence signal using distance measure, logarithm power and root mean square methods at each frame, then a spectrum subtraction algorithm based on a subband filter. The proposed algorithm subtracts spectrums of white noise and street noise from noisy signal based on the subband filter at each frame. In this experiment, experimental results of the proposed spectrum subtraction algorithm demonstrate using the speech and noise data of Aurora-2 database. Based on measuring the speech-to-noise ratio (SNR), experiments confirm that the proposed algorithm is effective for the speech by contaminated the noise. From the experiments, the improvement in the output SNR values was approximately 2.1 dB and 1.91 dB better for white noise and street noise, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a speech processing system based on a model of the human auditory system and a noise reduction neural network with fast Fourier transform (FFT) amplitude and phase spectrums for noise reduction under background noise environments. The proposed system reduces noise signals by using the proposed neural network based on FFT amplitude spectrums and phase spectrums, then implements auditory processing frame by frame after detecting voiced and transitional sections for each frame. The results of the proposed system are compared with the results of a conventional spectral subtraction method and minimum mean-square error log-spectral amplitude estimator at different noise levels. The effectiveness of the proposed system is experimentally confirmed based on measuring the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this experiment, the maximal improvement in the output SNR values with the proposed method is approximately 11.5 dB better for car noise, and 11.0 dB better for street noise, when compared with a conventional spectral subtraction method.

  • Recently, the use of drone has been increasing rapidly in many ways. A drone can capture remote objects efficiently so it is suitable for surveillance and security systems. This paper discusses three methods for detecting moving vehicles using a drone. We compare three target detection methods using a background frame, preceding frames, or moving average frames. They are subtracted from a current frame. After the frame subtraction, morphological filters are applied to increase the detection rate and reduce the false alarm rate. In addition, the false alarm region is removed based on the true size of targets. In the experiments, three moving vehicles were captured by a drone, and the detection rate and the false alarm rate were obtained by three different methods and the results are compared.

  • Foreground segmentation methods have steadily been researched in the field of computer vision. Especially, background subtraction which extracts a foreground image from the difference between the current frame and a reference image, called as "background image" have been widely used for a variety of real-time applications because of low computation and high-quality. However, if the background scene was dynamically changed, the background subtraction causes lots of errors. In this paper, we propose an efficient background subtraction method in dynamic environment with both static and dynamic scene. The proposed method is a hybrid method that uses the conventional background subtraction for static scene and depth information for dynamic scene. Its validity and efficiency are verified by demonstration in dynamic environment, where a video projector projects various images in the background.

  • This paper describes about a technique of generating music from the natural motion of fish which are detected via the running averaging background subtraction method. The motion of the fish will create musical notes on a background frame which will be analyzed and played by a music playing module that is proposed in this paper called "PhysicX". This module is also capable of interacting with the fishes. in the tank.

  • Most background subtraction methods focus on dynamic and complex scenes without considering robustness against noise. This paper proposes a background subtraction algorithm based on dictionary learning and sparse coding for handling low light conditions. The proposed method formulates background modeling as the linear and sparse combination of atoms in the dictionary. The background subtraction is considered as the difference between sparse representations of the current frame and the background model. Assuming that the projection of the noise over the dictionary is irregular and random guarantees the adaptability of the approach in large noisy scenes. Experimental results divided in simulated large noise and realistic low light conditions show the promising robustness of the proposed approach compared with other competing methods.
