Using non-destructive analytical methods, we identified the material characteristics of two gold fabric artifacts excavated from the Cheongsong Sim clan (Bugeum Wonsam, Jikgeum Chima), including the artifact condition, fiber type, surface contamination, and metallic threads. We found that the artifacts were buried and had turned brown; thus, we were unable to determine their original color. The fiber type was determined to be silk from cocoons, based on scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analyses of Amide I, II, III, and IV peaks, and color reactions Further, the FT-IR and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyses identified the white and black stains as natural resin hydrolyzed substances, such as lipids and proteins, that occurred as microbial decomposition due to body decay. Finally, the XRF analyses identified the thin gold layer of the metallic yarn as gold (Au). According to the FT-IR data and the color reaction to the metallic yarn medium, the adhesive component of the medium was a product of-Amides I, II, III, and 3000 cm-1 within Amides A and B (an animal type), respectively. Thus, the medium was identified as Hanji (Korean paper), which is made from domestically produced Broussonetia kazinoki fibers.
The surfaces of titanium specimens were modified by immersion in calcium phosphate buffered solutions (pH 5.8, 7.0, 8.0) for 10 days and simulated body fluid(SBF) for 30 days by turns. The modified surfaces were characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffractometery(XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer(FT-IR), and compared with specimen immersed in only SBF. The results indicated that the immersion in calcium phosphate buffered solutions accelerated the formation of the surface films. The formed layer showed granular shaped microstructure, and recognized as calcium phosphate such as a hydroxyapatite(HA) or a $\beta$-tri-calcium phosphate($\beta$-TCP). The thickness of the layer increased of the buffered solutions in order of pH 8.0, 7.0 and 5.8 and the density increased in order of pH 7.0, 8.0 and 5.8.
Cremated archaeological bones provide crucial information to unravel the details of ancient cremation events and funeral culture. The research on cremated bones to date has been mainly focused on extracting archaeological information in Korea. Recently, the techniques of physical anthropology have been applied to obtain biological information and cremation temperatures for individuals. This study analyzed human remains excavated from Seoul Seokchon-dong Ancient Tombs and determined whether there were human cremations as well as the estimated cremation temperatures. There was no trace of fire in the pits where cremated bones were found; therefore, it is assumed that they were deposited with the artifacts. In this study, four samples were selected according to the surface color of the bones, and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were used for analysis. All four of the Seokchon-dong cremated bones were found, based on the crystallization index of X-ray diffraction analysis, to have experienced cremation above the temperature of 700℃. Infrared spectroscopy results indicated that the four bones from Seokchon-dong were cremated at temperatures above 700℃ and below 1,000℃. IR peaks were observed at 700℃, whereas no changes were found when bones experienced more than 1000℃. We assume that the cremated people in the Seokchon-dong Tombs were people of high-status because cremation at such a high temperature at that period required much effort. Here we present significant evidence of the cremation status and temperature of archaeological human bones on the basis of XRD and FT-IR, allowing for the restoration of the cremation events and funeral culture in archaeological sites.

Role of cl$^{[-10]}$ in photosynthetic oxygen-evolving complex was studied by light-induced Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. cl$^{[-10]}$ depletion resulted in the suppression of amide I and amide II IR modes upon S$_1$ to S$_2$ transition. Br$^{[-10]}$ , 1$^{[-10]}$ and N0$_3$$^{[-10]}$ substituted FTIR difference spectra were very similar to that in cl$^{[-10]}$ reconstitution. F$^{[-10]}$ and $CH_3$COO$^{[-10]}$ substituted spectra were largely distorted. We succeeded in detecting the structural change of N0$_3$$^{[-10]}$ in the cl$^{[-10]}$ site upon the S$_1$ to S$_2$ transition from $^{14}$ N0$_3$$^{[-10]}$ /$^{15}$ N0$_3$$^{[-10]}$ difference spectrum.
Single $TiO_2$ coating prepared by sol-gel process usually experiences cracks in coating layer. In order to prevent cracks, an inorganic-organic hybrid $TiO_2-SiO_2$ coating was synthesized by combining precursors with an organic functional group. Five different coatings with various ratios of (1:8, 1:4, 1:1, 1:0.25 and 1:0.125) titanium alkoxide (TBOT, Tetrabutylorthotitanate) to organo-alkoxysilane (MAPTS, ${\gamma}$-Methacryloxy propyltrimethoxysilane) on carbon steel substrate were made by sol-gel dip coating. The prepared coatings were analyzed to study the coating properties (surface crack, thickness, composition) by scanning electron microscope (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Potentiodynamic polarization tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were also performed to evaluate the corrosion characteristics of the coatings. Crack free $TiO_2-SiO_2$ hybrid coatings were prepared with the optimization of the ratio of TBOT to MAPTS. The corrosion rates were significantly decreased in the coatings for the optimized precursor ratio without cracks.

Thin films of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si : H) of different compositions were deposited on Si(100) wafer and glass by RF plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). In the present work, we have investigated the effect of the If. power on the properties, such as optical band gap, transmittance and crystallinity, of crystalline silicon thin films. Raman data show that the material consists of an amorphous and crystalline phase for the co-presence of two peaks centered at 480 and 520cm$^{-1}$. X-ray spectra confirmed of crystallites with (111) orientation at 300w The transmittance of thin films was measured by UV-VIS spectrophotometer. In addition, Si-H chemical bondings were studied by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy.
The $\alpha$,$omega$-diacrylate poly(dimethylsiloxane) (DA-PDMS) containing vinyl ester of versatic acid/vinyl acetate (Veova-10/VAc) was prepared by emulsion copolymerization of (DA-PDMS), Veova-10 (with VAc), and auxiliary agents at $85^{\circ}C$ in the presence of ammonium peroxodisulfate (APS) as an initiator. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and nonylphenol ethylene oxide-40 units (NP-40) were used as anionic and nonionic emulsifiers, respectively. The resulting copolymers were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Thermal properties of the copolymers were studied by using thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The morphology of copolymers was also investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and then the effects of variables such as temperature, agitation speed, surfactant kinds, molecular weights, initiator, and DA-PDMS concentrations on the properties of the silicone-containing Veova-10/VAc emulsions were examined. The calculation of monomer conversion versus time histories indicates that by increasing the DA-PDMS concentration the polymerization rate and the number of polymer particles decrease, respectively.
This paper divides the factors of an accident into two parts, that are electrical deterioration and thermal deterioration, to analyze a characteristic of the factor of an accident which can break out in the capacitor of metal vaporized polypropylene film. For the purpose of creating capacitor which is caused by electric deterioration, we applied DC overvoltage, induced self-healing and breakdown from element. We applied gradual heat to get an element which is cause by thermal deterioration. The chemical structure of the shape and surface is analyzed by thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer(FT-IR). As a result, the peak of methylene group came out, in case of electrical deterioration, as observing the self-healing point. However, the peak is disappeared in the heat treated element by 500[$^{\circ}C$], and the peak of carbonyl group which has C=O came out in case of thermal deterioration.
A series of Ce-doped ZnO (Ce/ZnO) nanostructures were fabricated using the co-precipitation method, then a simply nontoxic hydrothermal approach was proposed for preparation of reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-Ce/ZnO composites. The synthesized composites were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) techniques and Raman pattern. The as-synthesized rGO-Ce/ZnO composites showed high photodecomposition efficiency in comparison with the rGO-ZnO, Ce/ZnO, pure ZnO under UV, visible-light and sunlight irradiation. The degradation of methylene blue (MB) (10 mg/L, 100ml) by 95.8% within 60 min by using rGO-2 (10 mg) under sunlight irradiation was observed. The repeated use of the rGO-2 was investigated, and the results showed almost no decay in the catalytic activity.

Ion-coordinating ruthenium complexes [cis-Ru(dcbpy)(L)(NCS)$_2$, where dcbpy is 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine and L is 1,4,7,10-tetraoxa-13-azacyclopentadecane, JK-121, or bis(2-(2-methoxy-ethoxy)ethyl) amine, JK-122] have been synthesized and characterized using $^1H$ NMR, Fourier transform IR, UV/vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The effect of $Li^+$ in the electrolyte on the photovoltaic performance was investigated. With the stepwise addition of $Li^+$ to a liquid electrolyte, the device shows significant increase in the photo-current density, but a small decrease in the open circuit voltage. The solar cell with a hole conductor, the addition of $Li^+$ resulted in a 30% improvement in efficiency. The JK-121 sensitized cells in the liquid and solid-state electrolyte give power conversion efficiencies of 6.95% and 2.59%, respectively, under the simulated sunlight.
