Genetic Discrimination of Catharanthus roseus Cultivars by Multivariate Analysis of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy Data

  • To determine whether pattern recognition based on metabolite fingerprinting for whole cell extracts of higher plants is applied to discriminate plants genetically, leaf samples of eight cultivars of Catharanthus roseus were subjected to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). FT-IR fingerprint region data were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA). Major peaks as biomarkers were identified as the most significant contributors to distinguish samples by using genetic programming. A hierarchical dendrogram based on the results from PCA separated the eight cultivars into two major groups in the same manner as the dendrograms based on genetic fingerprinting methods such as RAPD and AFLP. A slight difference between the dendrograms was found only in branching pattern within each subgroup. Therefore, we conclude that the hierarchical dendrogram based on PCA of the FT-IR data represents the most probable chemotaxonomical relationship between cultivars, which is in general agreement with the genetic relationship determined by conventional DNA fingerprinting methods.

보통포틀랜드시멘트의 수화 반응에 미치는 폴리카복실레이트계 고유동화제의 영향 (Effects of Polycarboxylate Type Superplasticizer on the Hydration of Ordinary Portland Cement)

  • 메톡시폴리에틸렌글리콜모노메타크릴레이트(MPEGMAA)와 메타크릴산(MAA)을 공중합시킨 폴리카복실레이트계 고유동화제(PCA)의 그라프트 사슬인 폴리에틸렌옥사이드(PEO)의 길이가 다를 경우, 보통포틀랜드시멘트(OPC)의 수화 반응에 미치는 영향을 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FT-IR), X-Ray Diffraction(XRD)과 Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)를 이용하여 조사하였다. PCA의 그라프트 사슬의 길이에 따라 초기 재령에서 수화 반응에 미치는 영향은 달라지나, 장기 재령에서는 큰 차이가 없었다. 또한 PCA가 첨가된 경우의 Ca(OH)$_2$의 상대 피크 강도의 비(I[001]/I[101])는 OPC에 비해 감소하였다.

  • In-mold decoration 포일의 경질 코팅 층에 사용하는 수지를 대상으로 전자빔(electron beam, EB) 경화에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 시료에 다른 양의 EB를 조사하고 경화 반응 정도를 Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy를 사용하여 관찰하였다. EB 조사선량 증가에 따른 코팅 물성의 변화를 표면 경도와 내마모성을 중심으로 알아보았다. 또한 나노 입자 첨가가 코팅 물성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 본 연구로부터 얻은 실험적 결과는 자외선(ultraviolet, UV) 경화 시스템과 유사한 EB 경화 시스템의 상업적 개발에 이용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Infrared Spectroscopic Study of α-Cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic Acid on Nanocrystalline TiO2 Surfaces: Anchoring of Metal-Free Organic Dyes at Photoanodes in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

  • Adsorption structures of the self-assembled thin films of $\alpha$-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (CHCA) anchoring on $TiO_2$ surfaces have been studied by using temperature-dependent diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy. From the presence of the strong $\nu(COO^-)$ band at ~1390 $cm^{-1}$ along with the disappearance of the OH bands in the carboxylic acid group in the DRIFT spectra at room temperature, CHCA appeared to adsorb onto $TiO_2$ surfaces as a carboxylate form. The absence of the out-of-plane benzene ring modes of CHCA in the DRIFT spectra suggests a rather vertical orientation of CHCA on $TiO_2$. Above ~220$ ^{\circ}C$, CHCA seemed to start to thermally degrade on $TiO_2$ surfaces referring from the disappearance of most vibrational modes in the DRIFT spectra, whereas the $\nu$(C ≡ N) bands were found to remain relatively conspicuous as the temperature increased even up to ~460$^{\circ}C$.

Characteristics of Plasma Polymerized Low-dielectric Constant SiCOH Films Deposited with Tetrakis(trimethylsilyloxy)silane and Cyclohexane Precursors

  • The electrical and mechanical properties of the plasma polymerized low dielectric constant SiCOH films were investigated. The SiCOH films were produced with tetrakis(trimethylsilyloxy)silane and cyclohexane as precursors by using a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. When the deposition plasma powers were changed from 10 to 50 W, the relative dielectric constant of the SiCOH film increased from 2.09 to 2.76 and their hardness and elastic modulus were changed from 1.6 to 5.6 GPa and from 16 to 44 GPa, respectively. After thermal annealing at $500^{\circ}C$, the annealed SiCOH films showed relative dielectric constants of 1.80-2.97, a hardness of 0.45-0.6 GPa and an elastic modulus of 6-7 GPa. And then, the chemical structures of as-deposited and annealed SiCOH films were analyzed by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

The effect of thickness and translucency of polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network material on degree of conversion of resin cements

  • PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to determine the degree of conversion of light- and dual-cured resin cements used in the cementation of all-ceramic restorations under different thicknesses of translucent (T) and high-translucent (HT) polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network (PICN) material. MATERIALS AND METHODS. T and HT PICN blocks were prepared at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm thicknesses (n=80). Resin cement samples were prepared with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 100 ㎛. Light-cured resin cement was polymerized for 30 seconds, and dual-cure resin cement was polymerized for 20 seconds (n=180). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used for degree of conversion measurements. The obtained data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey HSD, and independent t-test. RESULTS. As a result of FTIR analysis, the degree of conversion of the light-cured resin cement prepared under 1.5- and 2.0-mm-thick T and HT ceramics was found to be lower than that of the control group. Regarding the degree of conversion of the dual-cured resin cement group, there was no significant difference from the control group. CONCLUSION. Within the limitation of present study, it can be concluded that using of dual cure resin cement can be suggested for cementation of PICN material, especially for thicknesses of 1.5 mm and above.

  • The passive open-path Fourier-Transform-Infrared system was implemented for the toxic gas monitoring. Noise Equivalent Differential Temperature(NEDT) was investigated as a system performance evaluation figure and analyzed numerically with the designed parameters. Calculated NEDT was compared with the experimental value in the wavelength region of $700{\sim}1400cm^{-1}^$. The minimum detectable gas concentration was estimated from the obtained NEDT at the absorption wavelength of $SF_6$.

합성과 고온고압처리 다이아몬드의 감별 연구 (Identification of Synthetic and HTHP treated Diamonds)

  • 보석용 다이아몬드의 기술발전에 따라 고온고압법으로 만들어진 합성다이아몬드 인지, 또는 고온고압법(high temperature high pressure:HTHP)으로 향상처리된 천연다이아몬드 인지의 여부를 처리하지 않은 천연다이아몬드와 비교하여 명확히 확인할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 합성다이아몬드를 진동시편자력계를 이용하여 강자성 특성을 보이는 경우 합성다이아몬드로 감별하는데 성공하였다. 또한 HTHP 향상처리 된 TypeIa, TypeIIa 다이아몬드를 FTIR(Fourier Transform Infrared) 분광기를 이용하여 HTHP 처리 공정 전후의 스펙트럼 분석으로 감별할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Self-Assembled and Langmuir-Blodgett Arachidic Acid Monolayers on Silver: A Comparative Reflection-Absorption Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopic Study

  • Self-assembled (SA) and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers of arachidic acid on silver surfaces have been investigated by a reflection-absorption Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Arachidic acid was adsorbed on silver as carboxylate with its two oxygen atoms bound symmetrically to the surface. Although both the SA and LB monolayers consisted of fully extended trans zigzag carbon chains, a closer examination indicated that the SA monotayers should possess a more ordered crystalline structure than the LB monolayers. The infrared spectral data dictated that the extent of methyl group exposure at the air-film interface was greater in the SA monolayers than the LB monolayers, in agreement with the contact angle measurement. From a theoretical analysis, the alkyl chains in each monolayers seemed to be tilted away from the surface normal by less than $3.5^{\circ}$, but in opposite directions. Arachidic acid monolayers were concluded to have same structure as stearic acid monolayers.

Bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]amine 커플링제로 개질된 실리카 나노입자의 실란화도 정량 분석 (Quantitative Analysis of Silanization Degree of Silica Nanoparticles Modified with Bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]amine Coupling Agent)

  • 본 연구에서는 실리카 나노입자의 표면을 실란 커플링제인 bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]amine(BTMA)을 사용하여 개질하였다. BTMA의 가수분해 시간, 농도 및 개질 시간의 변화가 실리카 표면 개질 반응에 미치는 영향을 Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), elemental analysis(EA) 및 고체 상태 cross-polarization magic angle spinning(CP/MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(NMR)법을 사용하여 분석을 수행하였다. 연구결과 BTMA의 가수분해 시간, 농도 및 표면 개질 시간이 증가할수록 3737 $cm^{-1}$에 나타나는 실리카의 고립 실란올(isolated silanol) 피크의 세기는 점점 약해지고, 도입되는 BTMA의 $-CH_2$ 기에 의한 신축(stretching) 및 굽힘(bending) 진동 피크는 점점 강하게 나타났다. EA 분석을 통한 N 및 C의 함량에서도 같은 경향을 나타내었다. BTMA를 사용한 실리카 입자의 처리 조건 중, BTMA의 농도 변화는 실리카 입자 표면과 반응하는 BTMA의 양에 큰 영향을 미치지만, BTMA의 가수분해 시간 및 표면 개질 반응 시간의 영향은 크지 않은 것으로 나타났다.
