This paper summarises the results of an experimental study to investigate the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete beams strengthened using carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate in four-point bending. The experimental parameters included are the reinforcing bar ratio ${\rho}_s$ and preload level. Four bar ratios were selected (${\rho}_s=0.13$ to 0.86%), representing the section of two longitudinal tensile reinforcements, with diameters of 8, 14, 16, and 20 mm in order to reveal the effect of bar ratio on failure load and failure mode. Eight beams that could be considered "full-scale" in size, measuring 200 mm in width, 400 mm in total height and 2300 mm in length, were tested. Three beams were selected with different bar ratios (${\rho}_1$, ${\rho}_2$, ${\rho}_3$), and considered as control specimens (without ), while three other beams identical to the control beams with the same CFRP laminates ratio and a seventh beam with ${\rho}_{min}$ (the lowest bar ratio) were also used. In the second part of the study, two beams with the bar ratio ${\rho}_2$ were preloaded at two levels, 50 and 100% of their ultimate loads, and then repaired. This experimental investigation was consolidated using an analytical model. The experimental and analytical results indicate that the flexional capacity and stiffness of strengthened and repaired beams using CFRP laminate were increased compared to those of control beams, and the behaviour of repaired beams was nearly similar to the undamaged and strengthened beams; unlike the ductility of strengthened beams, which was greatly reduced compared to the control.

In a photoelastic experiment, it is necessary to know the material stress fringe constant of the photoelastic specimen to determine the stresses from the measured isochromatic fringe orders. The material stress fringe constant can be obtained using a simple tension specimen and/or a circular disk under diametric compression. In these methods, there is generally a need to apply numerous loads to the specimen in response to the relationship of the fringe order. Then, the least squares method is used to obtain the material constant. In this paper, the fringe orders that appear on a four-point bending specimen are used to determine the fringe constant. This method requires four photoelastic fringes obtained from a circular polariscope by rotating the analyzer to 0, ${\pi}/4$, ${\pi}/2$, and $3{\pi}/4$ radians. Using the four-point bending specimen to determine the material stress fringe constant has an advantage because measurements can be made at different locations by applying a constant load. The stress fringe constant measured with this method is within the range suggested by the manufacturer of the photoelastic material.
Unidirectional Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) are advanced materials which combine the characteristics of the light weight, high stiffness and strength. For those reasons, the use of the unidirectional CFRP has increased in jet fighters, aerospace structures. However, unidirectional CFRP composites have a lot of problems, especially delamination, compared with traditional materials such as steels and aluminums, and so forth. Therefore, the interlaminar fracture toughness for a laminate CFRP composite is very important. In this study, The mode II interlaminar fracture toughness was measured by using center notched flexure(CNF) test specimen. The CNF specimens using unidirectional carbon prepreg were fabricated by a hot-press with the gage pressure and temperature controller. And three kinds of a/L ratio was applied to these specimens. Here, we discuss the relations of the crack growth and the mode II interlaminar fracture under the four point bending CNF test. From the results, we shows that mode II interlaminar was occurred when the more $a_0$/L ratio, the less load. And $G_{IIC}$ also were obtained as 5.33, 2.9 and $0.58kJ/m^2$ according to $a_0$/L ratio=0.2, 0.3 and 0.4.
In this study, bending tests were performed on beam specimens made of UHPCC with the fiber content range of 0~5 vol% to investigate the contribution of fiber content to first cracking strength and flexural tensile strength. Also, four-point bending tests for unnotched beam as well as three-point bending test for notched beam were performed to estimate the effect of the presence of notch on the strengths. The experiment result showed that the increase in fiber content made linear improvement in the flexural tensile strength; whereas first cracking strength was enhanced only when at least 1 vol% of fibers was incorporated. Comparison of the bending test results with and without notch showed that the notch effect varied with the fiber content. The increase in fiber content diminished the effect of stress concentration on the notch tip, reducing the difference in the strengths. With much higher fiber content, the effect of stress concentration almost disappeared and the defection on cracking plane or the size effect dominated the strengths, consequently resulting in higher strengths in the notched beams than the unnotched ones.
The paper presents the details and results of an experimental study on bolted end-plate joints of industrial type steel building frames. The investigated joints are commonly used in Lindab-Astron industrial buildings and are optimized for manufacturing, erection and durability. The aim of the research was to provide an experimental background for the design model development by studying load-bearing capacity of joints, bolt force distribution, and end-plate deformations. Because of the special joint details, (i.e., joints with four bolts in one bolt-row and HammerHead arrangements), the Eurocode 3 standardized component model had to be improved and extended. The experimental programme included six different end-plate and bolt arrangements and covered sixteen specimens. The steel grade of test specimens was S355, the bolt diameter M20, whereas the bolt grade was 8.8 and 10.9 for the two series. The end-plate thickness varied between 12 mm and 24 mm. The specimens were investigated under pure bending conditions using a four-point-bending test arrangement. In all tests the typical displacements and the bolt force distribution were measured. The end-plate plastic deformations were measured after the tests by an automatic measuring device. The measured data were presented and evaluated by the moment-bolt-row force and moment-distance from centre of compression diagrams and by the deformed end-plate surfaces. From the results the typical failure modes and the joint behaviour were specified and presented. Furthermore the influence of the end-plate thickness and the pretension of the bolts on the behaviour of bolted joints were analysed.

The purpose of this study is to accurately understand the flexural behavior in RC beam with strrup on repair thickness of DFRCC. Using a four-point bending test, the shear strengths and shear stress-deflection relations of DFRCC repair RC specimens are obtained. The results show that DFRCC can be effectively used for repairing materials for concrete structures.

This experimental were carried out in order to investigate the equivalent strength of SFRC (Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete). Tow hundred and tenh SFRC beeam (size: 150x150x550) were used in the tests the relationships between loading and mid-point deflections of the beams were observed four oint bending loading. From the test results, prediction formulas for the equivalent strength of SFRC beams are suggested.
Steam generator tubes are degraded from wear, stress corrosion cracking, rupture and fatigue and so on. Therefore, the failure assessment of steam generator tube is very important for the integrity of energy plants. In the steam generator tubes, sometimes, the local wall thinning may result from severe degradations such as erosion-corrosion damage and wear due to vibration. In this paper, the elasto-plastic analysis was performed by FE code ANSYS on steam generator tubes with wall thinning. Also, the four-point bending tests were performed on the wall thinned specimens, and then it was compared with the analysis results. We evaluated the failure mode, fracture strength and fracture behavior from the experiment and FE analysis. Also, it was possible to predict the crack initiation point by estimating true fracture ductility under multi-axial stress conditions at the center of the thinned area from FE analysis.
The interfacial bond strength and microstructural analysis of pre-heat treated porcelain-fused-metal (PFM) were investigated using a mechanical three-point bending tester and scanning electron microscope(SEM). Four kinds of heat treated samples were prepared as follows; A: heating $1200^{\circ}F\rightarrow1600^{\circ}F$, holding 1min, reheating $\rightarrow1850^{\circ}F$, hold 3min under vacuum, B: heating $1200^{\circ}F\rightarrow1600^{\circ}F$ holding 1min, reheating $\rightarrow1850^{\circ}F$ under vacuum condition, C: heating $1200^{\circ}F\rightarrow1600^{\circ}F$, holding 1min, reheating $\rightarrow1850^{\circ}F$, holding 3min in the air, repeat same heat treatment process under vacuum condition, D: heating $1200^{\circ}F\rightarrow1600^{\circ}F$, holding 1min, reheating $\rightarrow1850^{\circ}F$, holding 1min in the air. The three-point bending test results shows that the interfacial bond strength of specimen B and C were higher than that of A and B. The SEM study reveals that Specimen C shows the highest surface density.

This study was carried out to verify the distribution patterns of Salix gracilistyla and Phragmites japonica communities known as obligatory riparian species according to physical factors such as micro-landforms, substrates, etc., at Soo-ip stream corridor. Firstly four vegetation types - Salix gracilistyla dominant type, Phragmites japonica dominant type, mixed type of two species, and mixed type of two species to other species, were classified by cluster analysis based on UPGMA-Euclidean distance. Also these vegetation types showed many different distribution patterns in response to the longitudinal and lateral view along the stream corridor and substrate composition. Salix gracilistyla was major component of dominant vegetation types developed at attack point of bending reach and on substrates composed of rock fragments, but contrastly Phragmites japonica was most important component of dominant vegetation types at point bar of bending reach and floodplain, and on substrates composed of soil materials. Secondly the species and environment biplot form CCA strongly supported the vegetation types divided by classification. Namely Salix gracilistyla was closely correlated with rock fragments and steep slope, which is resistant to physical action even though located near running water. But Phragmites japonica showed a high correlation with soil particles sedimented at floodplain by divergent flow.
