It is investigated quantitative relations between the magnetic storm magnitude and the solar wind parameters such as the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (hereinafter, IMF) magnitude (B), the southward component of IMF (Bz), and the dynamic pressure during the main phase of the magnetic storm with focus on the role of the interplanetary shock (hereinafter, IPS) in order to build the space weather fore-casting model in the future capable to predict the occurrence of the magnetic storm and its magnitude quantitatively. Total 113 moderate and intense magnetic storms and 189 forward IPSs are selected for four years from 1998 to 2001. The results agree with the general consensus that solar wind parameter, especially, Bz component in the shocked gas region plays the most important role in generating storms (Tsurutani and Gonzales, 1997). However, we found that the correlations between the solar wind parameters and the magnetic storm magnitude are higher in case the storm happens after the IPS passing than in case the storm occurs without any IPS influence. The correlation coefficients of B and $BZ_(min)$ are specially over 0.8 while the magnetic storms are driven by IPSs. Even though recently a Dst prediction model based on the real time solar wind data (Temerin and Li, 2002) is made, our correlation test results would be supplementary in estimating the prediction error of such kind of model and in improving the model by using the different fitting parameters in cases associated with IPS or not associated with IPS rather than single fitting parameter in the current model.
As new and diverse information technologies are being introduced and software complexity is increased, software development cost and efforts are also sharply increased. Component-Based Development (CBD) technology is appealing as a new way to reduce the cost and effort by increasing reusability and maintainability. Component in CBD has variability infernally which enables customization of the component within the specific domain. A component user can easily set up internally variability parts though Required interface which is provided by the component. Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) is utilized as a commercial standard to implement Java-based components. However, EJB constructs are limited in directly implementing Required interfaces of coarse-grained components[8]. In this paper, we define Required interface and propose interface-storage technique, class-storage technique, interface-generation technique, and Plug -in technique for implementing required interface of component. Interface-storage technique stores variable value in Required interface and class-storage technique take the Bean containg variability as Required interface without modification of component model. Interface-generation technique generates new Bean which takes the role of Required interface for component variability and Plug-in technique sets up component variability that component user plugged-in variable part externally The proposed four techniques conform to the semantics of CBD component interface and enable the implementation of high quality components.

The purpose of the Gage R&R study is to determine whether a measurement system is adequate for monitoring a process. If the measurement system variation is small relative to the process variation, then the measurement system is deemed 'adequate'. The sources of variation associated with the measurement system are compared using an analysis of variance (ANOVA) model, in general. A typical ANOVA model used in a standard Gage R&R study is the two-factor random effect model. Then, the ANOVA partitions the total variation into three categories: repeatability, reproducibility, part variation. However, if the process variation possesses the between group variation, within group variation, and within-part variation, these variations can cause the measurement system evaluation to provide misleading results. That is, in the standard Gage R&R study these variations affect the estimate of repeatability, reproducibility, or both. This paper presents a four-factor nested factorial ANOVA model which explicitly considers these variations for the Gage R&R study. The variance component estimates are derived by setting the EMS equations equal to the corresponding mean square from the ANOVA table and solving. And the proposed model is compared with the standard Gage R&R model.

Purpose: This paper proposes a procedure that may infer and identify interaction failures in a module. Methods: In design FMEA, we defined an interaction model between components and proposed a method for selecting a single component by using the standard specification classification table and four methods for choosing the related components. We also introduced the function tree for function and requirement characteristic analysis and proposed utilization of standard stress lists and 1st and 2nd stress analysis tables to determine the effect the stress analysis has on interactions. Finally, the interaction mechanism diagram was proposed and used to infer the failure mechanism. Process FMEA also established procedures in a similar way. Results: We established a procedure for predicting the failure mode due to interaction between components based on Company A's multi-step FMEA procedure. Conclusion: By applying the proposed interaction FMEA procedure to the development model, we were able to confirm the effect of the new derivation on the failure mode of interaction, which was not predicted by the existing FMEA.
A method and results of classification of four different metallic wear debris were presented by using their color features. The color image of wear debris was used far the initial data, and the color properties of the debris were specified by HSI color model. Particles were characterized by a set of statistical features derived from the distribution of HSI color model components. The initial feature set was optimized by a principal component analysis, and multidimensional scaling procedure was used fer the definition of a classification plane. It was found that five features, which include mean values of H and S, median S, skewness of distribution of S and I, allow to distinguish copper based alloys, red and dark iron oxides and steel particles. In this work, a method of probabilistic decision-making of class label assignment was proposed, which was based on the analysis of debris-coordinates distribution in the classification plane. The obtained results demonstrated a good availability for the automated wear particle analysis.
The Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) utilized in Honda's Civic Hybrid Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system was developed with the aim of making every component lighter, more compact and more efficient than those in the former model. To reduce energy loss, inverter efficiency was increased by fine patterning of the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) chips, 12V DC-DC converter efficiency was increased by utilizing soft-switching, and the internal resistance of the IMA battery was lowered by modifying the electrodes and the current collecting structure. These improvements reduced the amount of heat generated by the unit components and made it possible to combine the previously separated Power Control Unit (PCU) and battery cooling systems into a single system. Consolidation of these two cooling circuits into one has reduced the volume of the newly developed IPU by 42% compared to the former model.

This paper describes the dynamic performance of a variable speed wind turbine system responding to a wide variety of wind variations. Modeling of the wind generation using power electronics interface is proposed for dynamic simulation analysis. Component models and equations are addressed and their incorporations into a transient analysis program, PSCAD/EMTDC are provided. A wind model of four components is described, which enables observing dynamic behaviors of the wind turbine resulting from wind variations. Controllable power inverter strategies are intended for capturing the maximum power under variable speed operation and maintaining reactive power generation at a pre-determined level for constant power factor control or voltage regulation control. The components and control schemes are modeled by user-defined functions. Simulation case studies provide variable speed wind generator dynamic performance for changes in wind speed
The credibility of CHECWORKS FAC model analysis was evaluated for plant application in a model plant chosen for demonstration. The operation condition at each pipe component was defined before the wear rate analysis by plant data base, water chemistry analysis, and network flow analysis. The predicted wear was compared with the measured wear for 57 sample components selected from 43 susceptible line groups analysed. The inspected 57 locations represent components of highest predicted wear in each line group. Both absolute value and relative ranking comparisons indicated reasonable correlations between the predicted and the measured values. Four components showed much higher measured wear rates than the predicted ones in the feed water train from main feed water pump discharge to steam generator, probably due to high hydrazine concentration operation the effect of which had not been incorporated into the CHECWORKS model. The measured wear was higher than the predicted one consistently for components with least susceptibility to FAC. It is believed that the conservatism maintained during UT data analysis dominated the measurement accuracy. A great deal of enhancement is anticipated over the current plant pipe management program when a comprehensive plant pipe management program is implemented based on the model analysis.
The paper presents the equivalent circuit of an induction machine (IM) model which includes fundamental stray load and iron losses. The corresponding equivalent resistances are introduced and modeled as variable with respect to the stator frequency and flux. Their computation does not require any tests apart from those imposed by international standards, nor does it involve IM constructional details. In addition, by the convenient positioning of these resistances within the proposed equivalent circuit, the order of the conventional IM model is preserved, thus restraining the inevitable increase of the computational complexity. In this way, a compromise is achieved between the complexity of the analyzed phenomena on the one hand and the model's practicability on the other. The proposed model has been experimentally verified using four IMs of different efficiency class and rotor cage material, all rated 1.5 kW. Besides enabling a quantitative insight into the impact of the stray load and iron losses on the operation of mains-supplied and vector-controlled IMs, the proposed model offers an opportunity to develop advanced vector control algorithms since vector control is based on the fundamental harmonic component of IM variables.
