Imprecise computation has been suggested as a promising model of real-time computing in order to deal with timing constraints imposed by the environment. However, the theoretical foundation of the technique has not been fully explored. To address this, a decision-theoretic foundation of imprecise computation is proposed. The main benefit of such a treatment is that it enables the qualitative assumptions underlying imprecise computation techniques to be explicitly stated in a formal way. The theoretical foundation laid out in this paper, hence, will not only enable the justification of using imprecise computation techniques for a real-time application, but will also facilitate the development of extended techniques for more complexs real-time systems.
In this study, two extreme cases of compatibility of the horizontal displacements between the foundation and soil are considered, for which the pressure and settlements of the isolated footings and member end actions in structural elements are obtained using the three dimensional models and numerical experiments. The first case considered is complete slip between foundation and soil, termed as the un-coupled analysis. In the second case of analysis, termed as the coupled analysis, complete welding is assumed of joints between the foundation and soil elements. The model and the corresponding computer program developed simulate these two extreme states of compatibility giving insight into the variation of horizontal displacements and horizontal stresses and their intricacies, for evaluation of the influence of using the interface elements in soil-structure interaction analysis of three dimensional multiscale structures supported by isolated footings.
Numerical study of the flutter of a plate on a viscoelastic foundation is carried out in the paper. Critical velocity of the flutter of a plate on an elastic and viscoelastic foundation is determined. The mathematical model for the investigation of viscoelastic plates is based on the Marguerre's theory applied to the study of the problems of strength, rigidity and stability of thin-walled structures such as aircraft wings. Aerodynamic pressure is determined in accordance with the A.A. Ilyushin's piston theory. Using the Bubnov - Galerkin method, the basic resolving systems of nonlinear integro-differential equations (IDE) are obtained. At wide ranges of geometric and physical parameters of viscoelastic plates, their influence on the flutter velocity has been studied in detail.
Given the importance of quickly recovering livelihoods and economic activity after an earthquake, the seismic performance of the pile foundation is becoming more critical than before. In order to promote seismic retrofit of the pile foundations, it is necessary to develop a method for evaluating the seismic performance of the pile foundation based on the experimental data. In this paper, we focus on the building that was suffered severe damage to the pile foundation, conduct simulation analyses of the building, and report the results of evaluating the dynamic characteristics when piles are damaged using a system identification method. As a result, an analysis model that can accurately simulate the behavior of the damaged building during an earthquake was constructed, and it was shown that the system identification method could extract dynamic characteristics that may damage piles.
The nonlocal elasticity as well as Mindlin's first-order shear deformation plate theory are proposed to investigate thermal vibrational of a nanoplate placing on a three-factor foundation. The Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation is connected with the viscous damping to obtain the present three-parameter viscoelastic model. Differential equations of motion are derived and resolved for simply-supported nanoplates to get their natural frequencies. The influences of the nonlocal index, viscous damping index, and temperature changes are investigated. A comparison example is dictated to validate the precision of present results. Effects of other factors such as aspect ratio, mode numbers, and foundation parameters are discussed carefully for the vibration problem. Additional thermal vibration results of nanoplates resting on the viscoelastic foundation are presented for comparisons with future investigations.

In performing the structural analysis, the foundation is considered to be a fixed end as a plastic hinge model. In this study, the displacements of the foundation, pier, and shoe were compared when the foundation modeled as a fixed end, a shallow foundation constructed on bedrock of 2m depth, and a pile foundation constructed in the 10m to 20m depth of bedrock. The shear force was also compared, and the probability of damage was calculated and compared for the critical condition. When calculated as a fixed end, the displacement of the foundation converged to 0mm, but the shallow foundation built on the bedrock with a depth of 2m caused relatively displacement, and the pile foundation constructed to contact the bedrock with a depth of 18m caused a larger displacement. In addition, it was analyzed that the displacement of the foundation, which is the lower structure, affects the displacement of the super structure, but the difference in shear force applied to the foundation was insignificant in the three cases. There was no difference between the shallow foundation and the pile foundation in the influence on the displacement of the top of the pier, but there was a big difference from the analysis assuming as a fixed end.

In this study, a query language was developed to supplement the information retrieval and model regeneration in the case of Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)-based civil infrastructure information models. First, the IFC objects to represent the structural components, entities to manage the related properties, and relationships to connect with the mentioned elements were analyzed in a point of information flow. The results confirmed that the end-users could have problems with access and comprehend the properties and its relationships in the IFC file. Second, the IfcPropertySet-focused query method and applicable stand-alone module were proposed referring to the previous Building Information Model Query Language (BimQL). The availabilities of the proposed method were examined using the rail and sleeper information models through information retrieval and model regeneration. The most important advantage of the proposed approach is the IFC-based information retrievals that can guarantee the interoperability between software packages.
Time dependent creep settlements are one of the most important causes of material deteriorations for the huge water structures such as concrete faced rockfill dams (CFRDs). For this reason, performing creep analyses of CFRDs is vital important for monitoring and evaluating of the future and safety of such dams. In this study, it is observed how changes viscoplastic behaviour of a CFR dam depending the time. Ilısu dam that is the longest concrete faced rockfill dam (1775 m) in the world is selected for the three dimensional (3D) analyses. 3D finite difference model of Ilısu dam is modelled using FLAC3D software based on the finite difference method. Two different special creep material models are considered in the numerical analyses. Wipp-creep viscoplastic material model and burger-creep viscoplastic material model were rarely used for the creep analyses of CFRDs in the last are taken into account for the concrete slab and rockfill materials-foundation, respectively. Moreover, interface elements are defined between the concrete slab-rockfill materials and rockfill materials-foundation to provide interaction condition for 3D model. Firstly, dam and foundation are collapsed under its self-weight and static behaviour of the dam is evaluated for the empty reservoir conditions. Then, reservoir water is modelled considering maximum water level of the dam and time-dependent creep analyses are performed for maximum reservoir condition. In this paper, maximum principal stresses, vertical-horizontal displacements and pore pressures that may occur on the dam body surface during 30 years (from 2017 to 2047) are evaluated in detail. According to numerical analyses, empty and maximum reservoir conditions of Ilısu dam are compared with each other in detail. 4 various nodal points are selected under the concrete slab to better seen viscoplastic behaviour changes of the dam and viscoplastic behaviour differences of these points during 30 years are graphically presented. It is clearly seen that horizontal-vertical displacements and principal stresses for maximum reservoir condition are more than the empty reservoir condition of the dam and significant pore pressures are observed during 30 years for maximum reservoir condition. In addition, horizontal-vertical displacements, principal stresses and pore pressures for 4 nodal points obviously increased until a certain time and changes decreased after this time.
This paper is an experimental study of investigating the reinforcing effect and the behavior of cohesionless slope installed with reticulated root pils. Reduced scale model tests with plane strain conditions were performed to study the behavior of the strip footing located on the surface of cohesionless slopes reinforced with root piles. Model tests were carried out with Jumunjin Standard Sand of 45% relative density prepared by raining method to have an uniform slope foundation during tests. Slope of model foundation was 1 : 1.5 and a rigid model slop. Parametric model tests were performed with changing location of model footing, arrangements of root piles and angles of pile installation. On the other hands, the technique with camera shooting was used to monitor sliding surface formed with discontinuty of dyed sand prepared during formation o foudation. From test results, parameters affecting the behavior of model footing were analyzed qualitatively to evaluate their effects on the characteristic of load - settlement, ultimate bearing capacity of model footing and failure mechanism based on the formation of failure surface.
