A Journey to Understand Glucose Homeostasis: Starting from Rat Glucose Transporter Type 2 Promoter Cloning to Hyperglycemia

  • My professional journey to understand the glucose homeostasis began in the 1990s, starting from cloning of the promoter region of glucose transporter type 2 (GLUT2) gene that led us to establish research foundation of my group. When I was a graduate student, I simply thought that hyperglycemia, a typical clinical manifestation of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), could be caused by a defect in the glucose transport system in the body. Thus, if a molecular mechanism controlling glucose transport system could be understood, treatment of T2DM could be possible. In the early 70s, hyperglycemia was thought to develop primarily due to a defect in the muscle and adipose tissue; thus, muscle/adipose tissue type glucose transporter (GLUT4) became a major research interest in the diabetology. However, glucose utilization occurs not only in muscle/adipose tissue but also in liver and brain. Thus, I was interested in the hepatic glucose transport system, where glucose storage and release are the most actively occurring.

  • Recently much attention in building smart factory has been dramatically increased. Despite the growing interest in smart factory, few practical guidelines exist how to successfully build smart factory. The purpose of this study is to postulate and develop a road map for building successful smart factory. To enhance mundane realism, we design the road map through University-Industry research collaboration. Specifically, drawing analysis of University-Industry research collaboration, we design a prototype and detailed road map or building successful smart factory. Moreover, we apply the road map into actual smart factory development. By doing so, we successfully prove the effectiveness of the road map. Therefore, this study provides the valuable guidelines and directions to build a successful smart factory. Ultimately this study is able to help a variety of factories which establish and implement smart factory. Further, we hope that this study will be placed to be an important foundation research on behalf of smart factory building.

  • The simple adaptive control(SAC) method has attracted attention for interest of the simple structure of its adaptive controller. We establish that the introduction of output derivative action to the original SAC system definitely improves the response characteristic of the control system. The effect of such an introduction is confirmed through experimental results by applying the method to a servo control system using a direct drive (DD) motor.

A Study on Korean Male Cosmetics Analysed Through The Newspaper Articles From 2000 To 2010

  • This study aims to prove the changes, development and social background of Korean male cosmetics over the period of 2000-2010. There were total 574 articles written about male make-up and cosmetics in Chosun Daily, Joongang Daily and Donga Daily, which are the top three Korean local daily newspapers in terms of sales revenue for that period. These articles were analyzed together with social background research from various books and daily newspapers. The analysis of articles was divided into different categories; such as foundation cosmetics, color cosmetics, hair, and the social background. It was found that the articles related to foundation cosmetics were written the most, the articles related to male appearance management were second, articles on other items including how to manage the skin being the least. As for the social background of Korean male cosmetics, first of all, a change in social recognition can be pointed out. The traditional understanding of gender roles has changed, men's appearance management has started to be regarded as a competitive talent, and at the same time, the esthetic viewpoint for men also has changed. One example is the newly made popular term, "flower-handsome man", which shows the new trend of favoring males with nice skin. Second, the expansion of mass culture can be pointed out. As consumers can get information and fashion trends easier and faster, the fashion spreads fast, and this has led to the generalization and popularization of the sense of beauty. Third, the development of scientific technology and medical science can be pointed out. Thanks to the progress in those areas. the extension of youthfulness has become possible and the cosmetics industry was also affected greatly, as shown in the market spread of functional products for anti-ageing and wrinkle control as the interest in anti-ageing has grown. There are benefits from the development of scientific technology, but the problem of environmental pollution has appeared due to machinery and industrialization and thus the issue of well-being has been raised. Rising interest in naturalism, pro-environmentalism and organic cosmetics has influenced the cosmetics industry. In addition, the quantity of ultraviolet rays exposed to our skin has increased due to the air pollution caused by the destruction of environment, leading to increased usage of sun block lotion. Lastly, the influence of consumer society and the expansion of consumerism culture can be pointed out. In the modern society, consumption acts not only as the use of products and services but it also has an important role of mediating individuals with others and the society. The market for male cosmetics has been expanding and the number of men putting on make-up has been increasing rapidly. Therefore, this study is meaningful in that the analysis of the mode of change and the social background are an essential process in order to provide a direction for the future market for male cosmetics.

미래의 웰니스 삶을 위한 대학 교양체육수업의 가치 (The Value of the Liberal Arts Physical Education Class for the Future Wellness Life)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 미래의 웰니스 삶에 기여하는 대학 교양체육수업의 가치를 확인하는 것이다. 이 연구를 위해서 2019년 서울 **대학의 교양체육수업에 1학기 동안 참여한 9명에 연구 참여자들의 수업참여 기록물을 분석했다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들은 교양체육수업을 통해서 건강에 대한 관심이 증가했다. 학생들은 자신의 기대수명을 설정했고 행복하게 살아가는데 장애가 되는 질병을 파악했다. 그리고 건강의 중요성을 인식하게 되었다. 둘째, 학생들은 건강에 대한 관심이 증가했으며, 건강을 위한 행동을 수행했다. 학생들은 자신이 살아가고 있는 현재의 생활을 성찰했으며, 좋지 않은 생활 습관을 반성했다. 그리고 건강을 위해서 규칙적인 운동과 바람직한 식생활의 중요성을 인식했다. 셋째, 학생들은 생활운동과 건전한 생활을 실천함으로써, 긍정적인 삶의 변화를 경험했다. 학생들은 건강을 위해서 규칙적인 운동을 수행했고, 식생활을 개선하였으며, 건전한 생활습관을 실천했다. 이러한 학생들은 이러한 행동들을 실천함으로써, 미래의 웰니스 삶을 위한 토대를 마련했다. 결국 학생들은 교양체육수업을 통해서 건강하고 행복한 생활을 할 수 있는 기반을 마련했다. 그러므로 미래의 건강과 행복 추구에 기여하는 교양체육수업은 웰니스 삶을 위해서 더욱 활성화될 필요성이 있다고 생각된다.

항만과 도시 간 상생을 위한 로컬 항만 거버넌스 구축방안에 관한연구 : 전문가 AHP 결과를 토대로 (A Study on the Establishment of Local Port Governance for Coexistence between Ports and Cities: Based on the Results of AHP by Experts)

  • 과거부터 항만은 도시 발전에 많은 긍정적 영향을 미쳐왔으나 주거환경 피해와 같은 항만도시의 경쟁력을 떨어뜨리는 외부불경제효과도 가진다. 그렇다 보니 항만은 지자체에게도 중요한 정책 대상이 된다. 그러나 중앙집권적 항만정책 구조와 지자체의 항만역량 부족으로 인해 지자체의 참여 기회는 제한적이다. 따라서 항만을 지역정책의 대상으로 접근하고, 지자체와 일반시민과 지역기업, 시민단체 등 다양한 구성원의 참여와 협력을 기반으로 해결하려는 로컬 항만 거버넌스에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이 연구는 전문가와 실무자를 대상으로 AHP를 실시하여, 로컬 항만 거버넌스의 구축을 위한 구성요인을 찾고 우선순위를 탐색하는데 목적을 두었다. 그 결과, 로컬 항만 거버넌스를 구축하기 위해서는 제도적 기반과 사회문화적 분위기의 확립이 최우선됨을 확인하였고, 보다 세부적으로는 지자체장의 관심과 의지, 그리고 실질적 운영을 지원할 제도적 기반인 조례와 지자체 공무원의 전문성 확보가 높은 우선순위를 가지는 것을 알 수 있었다.

지속가능 패션 실용화를 위한 디자인 교육 프로그램 개발 (Developing Design Education Program concerning Sustainable Fashion)

  • Sustainability has been a big issue over the whole global industry lately and is an important fashion trend that reflects the modern phase of the time. The concept of sustainable fashion includes physical fashion products made from eco-friendly or recycle materials as well as ethical value such as corporate social responsibility for environment, labor or working condition. Fashion companies of advanced countries who are aware of the geo-environmental and ethical issues found that generating profits by setting trends and pursuing external beauty can no longer be the ultimate goal of fashion companies, and started to recognize the importance of sustainable fashion as a future-oriented trend. Not only fashion industry but also governments of advanced countries have been playing a leading role to educate the people regarding the importance of sustainable fashion and making large investments to foster industry specialists in educational institution. The aim of this study is to propose sustainable fashion design education program that fits the domestic university curriculum and government-leading education program in order to set the foundation for sustainable fashion industry. Thus, this study investigates successful cases of foreign government-led sustainable fashion education that can be introduced to improve domestic sustainable fashion education. The empirical study of the research is developing 12-15 week university level education program to foster specialists in sustainable fashion. The survey carried out by the students who participated in the program shows the change of perception on sustainable fashion. Developed university level program can be spread to municipal corporation, school of continuing education, and etc. in order to derive participation and problem perception of the citizens on sustainability. Developing systemized sustainable fashion design education program would be the first step of sustainable fashion by educating students who will take the leading role in the future fashion industry. Moreover, it can strongly influence future customer education as well as a special education inducing interest on sustainability in everyday life. A follow-up study is expected to serve as a foundation for sustainable fashion to take root successfully in the fashion industry.

지구과학의 정체성과 학문 분류 (Identity and Academic Classification of Earth Science in Korea)

  • 2000년대에 들어와서 강력하게 추진되고 있는 국내 학회와 학술지에 대한 평가는 학회와 학술지의 장래를 결정하게 되는데 여기에 대한 한국지구과학회의 대응과 그 결과를 제시하고 앞으로 지구과학이 어떤 방향으로 연구하고 교육해야 하는지를 토의해 보고자 한다. 2002년에 실시된 학술진흥재단 평가에서 한국지구과학회지가 우수하게 평가되어 학술진흥재단의 등재지로 선정되었으며, 한국지구과학회의 정체성을 결정하는 지구과학 학문 분류 (2002년도)가 학술진흥재단에 그대로 반영되었다. 그리고 2003년도부터 국가 학문 분류를 확정하기 위하여 KISTEP(한국과학기술기획평가원)에서 실시한 공청회와 의견 수렴에 적극적으로 참여하여 우리의 학문 분류 안을 관철시켰다. 그리고 2003년도 학술진흥재단학문분류를 위하여 지구과학분야의 학문 분류 안을 제출하였다. 앞으로도 학술지 평가와 학문 분류 조정이 계속적으로 이루어지기 때문에 지구과학의 정체성과 함께 지구과학의 학문 분류에 대하여 지속적으로 연구해야 할 것이다.

외식사업 신규창업을 위한 사업계획서 작성방법 사례와 투자경제성 분석에 관한 연구 (Case Studies on Preparing a Business Plan for the Foundation of Food Service Business and Analysis of Investing Economy.)

  • This study was performed as placing stress on business plan preparation and investing economy analysis centered to cases upon presenting the premises of study for new foundation of food service business. The summarized results are as follows: 1. In the aspect of carrying out process of practical project, establishing the promotion strategy, the facility project program, the menu program, the facility and furniture program, organization & manning schedule, the business operation schedule, review of all laws & provisions and the allout promotion schedule in order were deployed. 2. Analysis of investing economy for review of profitability 1) In case of investment, excluding 600million for the real setate lease among the total investment of 1billion, it was required by 161, 235, 000 for interior project, 161, 110, 000 for facility & equipment, 19, 235, 000 for fittings, 27, 600, 000 for menu plate & uniform, 27, 600, 000 for furniture, 13, 800, 000 for sign article. 2) In case of loss & profit presumed the annual turnover is to be 1, 115, 856, 000 the contigent profit(before tax) is to be 148, 966, 000 which is 13.3% in comparson to the sales amount and the net profit(after tax) for this term s to be 104, 276, 000 which is 9.3% against the sales and the profitable ratio to the equity investment( 500 million) is 20.9% and it satisfies 20% of the premises of study. 3) In case of the payback period will be approximately two(2) years which indicated within three(3) years that is standard of new project evaluation term of ordinary enterprise. 4) In case of internal rate of return it will be 21.5% which is favorable profitability as taking into account of 15% that is standard of new project evaluation by ordinary enterprise based on general downtown money interest. That the investing value of Happy Day profitability is hinted as it is sufficient enough as the case under this study based upon such results and considered that securing supremacy is competitive power in case of commitment will be possible.

여대생의 메이크업에 대한 행동 및 의식 조사연구 - 대전.충남지역을 중심으로 - (A Study on University Woman's Behavior & Consciousness for Her Make-up - Focused on Daejeon.Chungnam Region -)

  • This research has the purpose to examine the images sought for, makeup Consciousness, and behavioral aspects during makeup by the college girls in their 20s in the region of Daeieon and Chungnam that have strong interest in appearance and start color makeup in full scale, who form the main consumer layers in cosmetics market, and to analyze their preference on colors and feelings by the kinds of cosmetics, and their cosmetics purchase behavior. A questionnaire survey on the college girls in Daejeon and Chungnam region has shown the following results. The biggest reason college girls do the makeup was for a refined and pure image as well as protection of skin and covering defects. Their greatest concern was skin protection, and as for color selection, harmonizations of skin color and hair color were the largest consideration. In addition, the type of makeup they do most was foundation makeup, while pink was the most frequent lipstick color, and lip glow was mostly normal colors. However, they mostly answered that they do not use eye shadow, eye runner, and foundation. It was shown that their cosmetics purchase p]aces were specialized discount stores for about 47% nearly half of them, and they consider colors the most for lipsticks and eye shadows, and affinity to skin for foundations and basic cosmetics.
