This paper analyzes a symmetric active cell balancer for a battery management system. The considered cell balancer uses a forward converter in which the circuit structure is symmetric. This cell-balancing method uses fewer switches and is simpler than the previously proposed active cell-balancing circuits. Active power switches of this cell-balancing circuit operate simultaneously with the same pulse width modulation signals. Therefore, this cell-balancing circuit requires less time to be balanced than a previous bidirectional-forward-converter-based cell balancer. This paper analyzes the operational principles and modes of this cell balancer with computer-based circuit simulation results as well as experimental results in which each unbalanced cell is equalized with this cell balancer. The maximum power transfer efficiency of the investigated cell balancer was 87.5% from the experimental results. In addition to the experimental and analytical results, this paper presents the performance of this symmetric active cell-balancing method.

This paper describes the forward type pulse power supply using a Power-MOSFET in the view of commercialization. The principle of basic operating and the operating characteristics of the forward type pulse power supply are estimated by the switching frequency, coupling factor and duty ratio. It is shown that theoretical and experimental results are in good agreement by comparing simulation and experimental results when a lamp type ozonizer can be used as a load. Also, experimental results indicate that the discharge and ozone concentration characteristics of the manufactured pulse power supply is more improved compare to the conventional pulse power supply[5]. This proposed supply show that it can be practically used as a pulse power supply in various environment improvement facilities.
Computational and experimental studies on a forward-sweep inducer for turbopumps were performed to see the effect of the blade sweep on the suction performance of the inducer. Computational results show that backflows at the inlet decrease in the case of the forward-sweep inducer by inhibiting pre-rotation of the inflow and the low pressure region near the tip also diminishes, which is presumed to improve the suction performance of the inducer. The predicted suction performance of the inducer is compared with the experimental result. The result shows that the computation overestimates the suction performance of the inducer compared to the value from the experiment.

The structure of MMSE receiver frontended by CMA array working in CDMA forward link is proposed. By using the despreaded pilot signal of forward link as a reference signal, CMA array can capture multi-path signals securely even in severely faded mobile channel. The remaining MAl (Multiple Access Interference) is cancelled by the cascaded MMSE receiver. Through computer simulation, it is proved that the proposed system shows much better BER performance than any other systems. As a mobile based spatio-temporal receiver, the proposed system also reduces implemental cost and complexity by adopting the simplest algorithm for its spatial and temporal domain processing.

In this paper, the multiple output forward converter forPC power supply with weighted voltage mode control which improves the characteristics of DC and transient responses is analyzed and designed. The power stage model of this converter including all the major parasitic components is derived and the small signal model is also derived. Determination of the weighting factors and a design procedure for the loop compensation are presented. Finally, the proposed controller is verified through the simulation of three output forward converter with SABER, and the experiment.

In this paper, minimum mean-square-error (MMSE)-based transceiver processing of a bidirectional amplify-and-forward (AF) relay having multiple antennas is proposed. Besides, the optimal beamforming vectors of users are designed in the sense of the sum rate maximization. Simulation results show that the proposed relay processing can effectively reduce both co-channel interferences and self-interferences and that the proposed beamforming method is proper to the bidirectional communication employing the AF relay.

In this paper we consider the problem of identifying and testing outliers in linear regression. First we consider the problem for testing the null hypothesis of no outliers. A test based on the ratio of two residual scale estimates is proposed. We show the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics by Monte Carlo simulation and investigate its properties. Next we consider the problem of identifying the outliers. A forward sequential procedure using the suggested test is proposed and shown to perform fairly well. Unlike other forward procedures, the present one is unaffected by masking and swamping effects because the test statistic is based on robust scale estimate.

The Stewart Platform is a six-degree-of-freedom in-parallel-actuated manipiulator mechanism. The kinematic behavior of parallel mechanisms shows inverse characteristics as compared that of serial mechanisms; i.e, the inverse kinematic problem of Stewart Platform is straightforward, but no closed form solution of the forward kinematic problem has been previously presented. Thus it is difficult to calculate the 6 DOF displacement of the platform from the measured lengths of the six actuators in real time. Here, a real-time estimation algorithm which solves the Stewart Platform kinematic problem is proposed and tested through computer simulations and experiments. The proposed algorithm shows stable convergence characteristics, no estimation errors in steady state and good estimation performance with higher sampling rate. In experiments it is shown that the estimation result is the same as that of simulation even in the presence of measurement noise.

In cold forging of piston-pin for automobile parts, the flow defect appears by the dead metal zone. This appearance evidently happens in products with a thin piercing thickness for the dimension accuracy and the decrease of material loss. The best method that can prevent flow defect is removing dead metal zone. The purpose of this study is to investigate the material flow behavior of forward-backward extruded piston-pin through the relative velocity ratio and the stroke control of upper moving punch & container using the flow control forming technique. The finite element simulations are applied to analyse the flow defect, then the results are compared with the plasticine model material experiments. The model experiment results are in good agreement with the FE simulation ones.

This paper is concerned with the comparison of forging characteristics between forward and backward processes, through the three-dimensional finite element simulation, for the aluminum powder forging of engine pistons. Starting from the theoretical formulation of velocity and temperature fields in the sintered preform during the process, we examine the comparative distributions of relative density, effective stress and temperature as well as the variations of total forging load and total volume reduction. Through the comparative results, we find out that the forward method provides better forging characteristics than the backward method.
