  • Gravity and electrical resistivity surveys were carried out across the Kwangju fault in the downstream area of the Jangsung Lake, to investigate the location and geometrical feature of the fault. In the resistivity survey, dipole - dipole array method was adopted for 3 survey lines of which length and electrode spacing are 500m and 25m, respectively. Resistivity data are interpreted with aid of computer program "RESIS" which is widely used in resistivity data analysis and two dimensional resistivity profiles are obtained for 3 survey lines. Two large fracture zones relevant to the Kwangju fault are identified in the resistivity profiles. The total of 80 gravity data are observed with the mean spacing of 40 m and the exact leveling is accompanied to obtain more precise gravity anomalies. The subterranean density discontinuities calculated from the inverse method are appeared at the depths of 650rn and 120m. It is considered that the deep discontinuity indicates boundary between Jurassic granites and oveflying Cretaceous tuff formation. while, the shallow discontinuity is interpreted to be a boundary between alluvial deposits and basements. The subsurface geological structure to satisfy the observed Bouguer anomaly is determined from the iterative forward method in which results from existing surface geological informations, the inverse method, and from the resistivity interpretations are employed as an iuitial model. In conclusion, Kwangju fault is appeared to be a high angle normal fault mainly formed in tension stress filed.

  • In the aging society, the walking assist robot is a necessary device for being able to help the older and the lower limb disabled people to walk. In order to produce a convenient robot for the older and the lower limb disabled, it is needed for the research to detect the implicit walking intention and to control robot by a user's intention. This study is a previous study to develop the detection model of the walking intention and analyze the user's walking intention while a person is walking with Lofstrand crutches, by the combination of FSR and tilt signals. The FSR sensors attached user's the palm and the soles of foot are sensing force/pressure signals from these areas and are used for detecting the walking intention and states. The tilt sensor acquires roll and pitch signal from area of vertebrae lumbales and reflects the pose of the upper limb. We can recognize the user's walking intention such as 'start walking', 'start of right or left foot forward', and 'stop walking' by the combination of FSR and tilt signals can recognize.

  • This study summarizes advantages and disadvantages of numerical methods and compares ELLAM and LEZOOMPC to develop an efficient numerical modeling technique on contaminant transport. Eulerian-Lagrangian method and Eulerian method are commonly used numerical techniques. However Eulerian-Lagrangian method does not conserve mass globally and fails to treat boundary in a straightforward manner. Also, Eulerian method has restrictions on the size of Courant number and mesh Peclet number because of time truncation error. ELLAM (Eulerian Lagrangian Localized Adjoint Method) which has been popularly used for past 10 years in numerical modeling, is known for overcoming these numerical problems of Eulerian-Lagrangian method and Eulerian method. However, this study investigates advantages and disadvantages of ELLAM and suggests a change for the better. To figure out the disadvantages of ELLAM, the results of ELLAM, LEZOOMPC (Lagrangian-Eulerian ZOOMing Peak and valley Capturing), and visual MODFLOW are compared for four examples having different mesh Peclet numbers. The result of ELLAM generates numerical oscillation at infinite of mesh Peclet number, but that of LEZOOMPC yields accurate simulations. The simulation results suggest that the numerical error of ELLAM could be alleviated by adopting some schemes in LEZOOMPC. In other words, the numerical model which combines ELLAM with backward particle tracking, forward particle tracking, adaptively local zooming, and peak/valley capturing of LEZOOMPC can be developed for not only overcoming the numerical error of ELLAM, but also keeping the numerical advantage of ELLAM.

  • Online games are not only tools for enjoyment, they are also the linking pins connecting between the online and the offline worlds. The effects affecting other domains can be termed 'spillover'. With the process behaving as forward and reverse spillovers, there are interaction effects on online and offline behavior. However, there is little research dealing with the spillover effects from the offline to the online domain. This study concentrates on the individual behavior of online garners centering on offline dependence. With the purpose of finding the factors affecting both flow and immersion, I am interested in the moderator effect of offline dependence influencing both flow and immersion from social interaction. A research model is developed and a survey research is conducted from one of universities in Korea. The results show that flow is strongly influenced by skills, challenge, and social interaction, but immersion is only influenced by skills and social interaction and not challenge. The findings reveal that the moderating effect of offline dependence affects only the relationship from social interaction to the immersion on the lower offline dependence group.

  • We have developed an inversion code for three-dimensional (3D) resistivity tomography including the anisotropy effect. The algorithm is based on the finite element approximations for the forward modelling and Active Constraint Balancing method is adopted to enhance the resolving power of the smoothness constraint least-squares inversion. Using numerical experiments, we have shown that anisotropic inversion is viable to get an accurate image of the subsurface when the subsurface shows strong electrical anisotropy. Moreover, anisotropy can be used as additional information in the interpretation of subsurface. This algorithm was also applied to the field dataset acquired in the abandoned old mine area, where a high-rise apartment block has been built up over a mining tunnel. The main purpose of the investigation was to evaluate the safety analysis of the building due to old mining activities. Strong electrical anisotropy has been observed and it was proven to be caused by geological setting of the site. To handle the anisotropy problem, field data were inverted by a 3D anisotropic tomography algorithm and we could obtain 3D subsurface images, which matches well with geology mapping observations. The inversion results have been used to provide the subsurface model for the safety analysis in rock engineering and we could assure the residents that the apartment has no problem in its safety after the completion of investigation works.

  • The methylotrophic yeast Hansenula polymorpha has been extensively studied as a model organism for methanol metabolism and peroxisome biogenesis. Recently, this yeast has also attracted attention as a promising host organism for recombinant protein production. Here, we describe the fabrication and evaluation of a DNA chip spotted with 382 open reading frames (ORFs) of H. polymorpha. Each ORF was PCR-amplified using gene-specific primer sets, of which the forward primers had 5'-aminolink. The PCR products were printed in duplicate onto the aldehyde-coated slide glasses to link only the coding strands to the surface of the slide via covalent coupling between amine and aldehyde groups. With the partial genome DNA chip, we compared efficiency of direct and indirect cDNA target labeling methods, and found that the indirect method, using fluorescent-labeled dendrimers, generated a higher hybridization signal-to-noise ratio than the direct method, using cDNA targets labeled by incorporation of fluorescence-labeled nucIeotides during reverse transcription. In addition, to assess the quality of this DNA chip, we analyzed the expression profiles of H. polymorpha cells grown on different carbon sources, such as glucose and methanol, and also those of cells treated with the superoxidegenerating drug, menadione. The profiles obtained showed a high-level induction of a set of ORFs involved in methanol metabolism and oxidative stress response in the presence of methanol and menadione, respectively. The results demonstrate the sensitivity and reliability of our arrays to analyze global gene expression changes of H. polymorpha under defined environmental conditions.

  • This study is to identify factors influencing therapeutic diversification strategy for Korean pharmaceutical companies. So, it purposes to find deciding factors for companies to adopt strategy for diversification or specialization. In this paper, we set six factors that are expected to influence diversification. The factors are asset scale, sales, profitability, and growth potential. Also, we included number of employees and SG&A cost ratio as factors that reflect business characteristics. We analyzed the impacts of each factor on diversification and found a relationship amongst each other. In this paper, regression analysis is applied with forward selection method, considering that it takes 5 years for companies to decide on diversification strategy. As a result, asset scale, the number of employees and profitability have significantly influenced decisions of diversification at t-1 time, and growth potential was significantly influenced at t-2 time. Korean pharmaceutical companies generally tend to go with specialization model if they have larger asset scale, higher profitability and growth potential. However, they have tendency to decide on diversification strategy, if they have large number of employees. Overall, the result of this study is expected to provide useful information for Korean pharmaceutical companies to set the suitable strategy for their situation to become a competitive company in global pharmaceutical market.

  • Gravimetric and magnetic surveys were conducted in order to reveal near-surface structures such as basements, faults, and fracture zones in an area near Angang, where the Yangsan fault is believed to pass through. Along two lines approximately perpendicular to the strike of the major fault, gravity and magnetic data were measured at 67 stations with a 15 m interval and at 296 stations with a 3 m interval, respectively. Average depth to the magnetic basement is estimated using the spectral analysis method to be 8.5 and 10.0 m along lines located to the east and the west of the Hyeongsan river, respectively. Average value of reduced gravity on the east line is higher than that on the west by the amount of 1.71 mGal, which indicates that the basement rocks are more severely fractured in the western part. Forward gravity modeling along the east line indicates that a fracture zone extends westward from a fault located 210 m west of the eastern end. Density and depth to the bottom of the fracture zone are estimated to be 2.44 g/cm3 and 70 m, respectively. The gravity model study also indicates presence of a small graben, 190 m wide and 3.5 m deep on an average, on the basement surface. The earth surface above the graben is approximately 44 cm lower than the nearby surface. This indicates that the graben might have been formed by recent fault movements.

  • This research is to analyze the force on landing 3 Type of Halfpipe Curves(Ellipse, Circle, Brachistochrone) based on the mechanical calculation of normal force on a sloping surface. Jumping off a platform on a bard horizontal surface, the flexing of the legs, the softness of the snow, the angle of the landing surface, initial velocity and the forward motion of the snowboarder can contribute to reducing the force on landing. But halfpipe is significantly determined by the curvature of surface. It is definitely verified that the Brachistochrone curve is more safety than others. However currently using the Ellipse curve is mostly safe too. If we consider the efficiency of construction, we can easily think there is no use of another curves except normal ellipse curved halfpipe. It would better that geometrically verity curved halfpipe should be designed for improving fluent skills to snowboarders. This methode of research can be a model of scientifical research on sports safety how can sportsman reduce critical injury by designing optimal halfpipe facilities and manual.

  • This report is the result of interim evaluation of a health promotion project which was operated by a public health center of K Gu in the year of 2000. It evaluated the aspects of the aim of a project, a target group. and adequacy and appropriateness of a approaching strategy by considering data of public health center's self-evaluation, and guidelines of a group assigned to evaluate the project. The way of evaluation was dividing the project into a colligated evaluation and a evaluation by projects in the aspects of the structure, the procedure. and the result of a result. Through this. a device to improve the health improvement project was derived. The target data for evaluation was the second data and data of self-evaluation, reported data, membership register data of a health management. and interview materials with the people in charge by projects that are all collected as a project management documents. The result of evaluation is stated below. 1. Main purpose of a health promotion project is building a environment of healthy life practicing and providing information through various ways to increase the rate of practicing healthy life. Through overall project. the ultimate purpose and definite purpose were same, however, it was not quite satisfied to offer planning of a time, and a target amount in detailed strategy. As the purpose was to build environment of healthy life practicing. most of the projects had the whole community citizen as a target group. That made difficult to operate detailed projects. so the result was hard to estimate as much as the effort put into it. Also, there were too many kinds of projects and target groups to be equal to by the human source of a health promotion project team. so we were just bent on operating a project. and could not prepare for the evaluation. As the most of former evaluation of public health service was just counting number of the objects, the new way of evaluating a project wasn't familiar to us. so the evaluation of a detailed project cannot be done well. Techniques and advices needed for all of these things weren't offered appropriately. For the forward direction of unfolding project. it is desirable to operate project by selecting focused target and considering a strategy of evaluation as a strategy of reasonable spread. The evaluation of the project became difficult as participation of citizen for it was poor. So, approach strategy that can lead the motivation of community citizen should be derived. 2. For the continuation of a health promotion project, technical assistance system. description of a field in charge, and arrangement of the amount of task should be developed as a central level. Furthermore, as the health promotion project focus on behavioral modification program whose purpose is to lessen dangerous factors. the public health service model which is incorporated with former project should be developed and spread out in the field for the object-centered project plan.
