  • This paper presents a detailed analysis method of the universal input forward converter with LC input filter operating in discontinuous capacitor voltage mode(DCVM) for wind power generation. In this analysis, condition for DCVM operation and conversion ratio for rectified sinusoidal input are made clear. To verify the validity of the analysis, simulation is carried out for the universal input ranging from 90 $V_{rms} to 260 V_{rms}$

  • This paper presents a method to analyze a forward converter. A transformer is coupled with the forward converter electric circuit and then the finite element analysis considering a hysteresis phenomenon of magnetic core is carried out when the primary or the reset winding conducts current. The analytical method is used to reduce the computation time when the reset winding circuit of the transformer turns off. As a result, the simulation results show a good agreement with experimental ones.

  • In this paper, Operation characteristics of the active clamp(ACL) zero-voltage-switching(ZVS) forward converter(FC) and active clamp hard- switching(HS) forward converter are compared with respect to loss analysis. The losses of semiconductor (including conduction losses and switching losses), transformer(containing the core loss and copper loss) and parasitic element of passive element (capacitor, inductor) are measured and compared for each type. For an experiment we have built 50W ACL ZVS-FC and ACL HS-FC, in which the switching frequency is 200kHz, and test it. The experimental results show that both types of operation have nearly same characteristics.

  • In this paper, SPICE program which is widely used in analysis of general circuit on electronic and electrical field has been applied to DC-DC converter. We have selected Forward type which is widely used us SMPS(Switched Mode Power Supply) of various electronic equipments, and have confirmed the waveforms of circuit operation, transfer of energy and resetting in transformer. And the procedure which the output voltage of converter, including the control circuit, has been stabilized from the transient state to the steady state by controlling the duty ratio of switch is presented. We have compared SPICE simulation with experiment and have verified the validity of SPICE simulation.

Analysis, Design, and Implementation of a Soft-Switched Active-Clamped Forward Converter with a Current-Doubler Rectifier

  • This study examines the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation of an active-clamped forward converter (ACFC) with a current-doubler rectifier (CDR). The ZVS condition can be obtained with a much smaller leakage inductance compared to that of a conventional ACFC. Due to the significantly reduced leakage inductance, the design is optimized and the circulating loss is reduced. The operation of the ACFC with a CDR is analyzed, and a detailed ZVS analysis is conducted on the basis of a steady-state analysis. From the results, a design consideration for ZVS improvement is presented. Loss analyses of the converters shows that enhanced soft-switching contributes to an efficiency improvement under light-load condition. Experimental results from a 100-W (5-V/20-A) prototype verify that the ACFC with a CDR can attain ZVS across an extended load range of loads and achieve a higher efficiency than conventional ACFCs.

Two-transistor 포워드 컨버터에서 소프트 스위칭 기법의 손실 분석 (Loss Analyses of Soft Switching Techniques for Two-transistor Forward Converter)

  • 본 논문에서는 Two-transistor 포워드 컨버터에서 사용 가능한 기존의 소프트 스위칭 기법과 새로운 소프트 스위칭 기법의 손실 분석을 수행한다. 두 트랜지스터에서 발생하는 스너버 전류에 의한 트랜지스터 손실과 내부 커패시터에 의한 턴-온 손실을 유도하고, 각각의 트랜지스터에서 발생하는 전체 손실을 계산한다. 손실 계산을 통해 기존의 소프트 스위칭 기법에서는 두 트랜지스터에서 발생하는 손실이 상이함을 보이고, 새로운 소프트 스위칭 기법에서는 손실이 적으면서도 두 트랜지스터에서의 손실이 고르게 발생함을 알 수 있다. 그리하여 제안된 소프트 스위칭 스너버를 사용하여 고른 열분포와 향상된 신뢰도를 얻을 수 있음을 보인다.

  • 본 논문은 FAC (Forward converter Active Clamp) 회로를 통해 변압기 자화인덕턴스에 저장된 에너지를 셀 밸런싱에 재사용하는 Active Clamp Forward converter 기반 셀 밸런싱 회로를 제안한다. 제안 회로는 클램프 커패시터의 충전 균형으로 스위치를 전압 스파이크로부터 보호하고 전력손실을 초래할 수 있는 변압기의 자기포화를 방지할 수 있다. 제안한 셀 밸런싱 회로는 RCD 포워드 셀 밸런싱 컨버터 보다 더 높은 전력 전달 효율과 낮은 전압 스트레스를 갖는다. 제안한 액티브 셀 밸런싱 회로는 동시에 모든 셀이 균등화 되도록 작동하므로, 셀밸런싱 시간이 짧다. 본 논문에서는 제안 회로의 배터리 상태에 따른 제어모드를 설명하고 회로의 타당성 검증을 위해 Powersim 사(社)의 Psim 시뮬레이션 연구를 수행하였다.

  • Single-stage converters are simpler and less expensive than convention two-stage converters. It can be a challenge, however, to design single-stage converters to satisfy certain key criteria such as input power factor, primary-side do bus voltage, and output voltage ripple. This is especially true for higher power single-stage AC/DC TTFC(Two-Transistor Forward Converter).

  • In this paper, a DCM operated boost integrated single-stage forward-flyback converter is proposed. This proposed converter has high power factor, low harmonic distortion, and tight output regulation. To increase efficiency, zero voltage switching with asymmetrical control is used. This converter also give low voltage stress in switch and this results in low conduction loss with low turn-on resistance.

  • A new asymmetrical zero voltage switching (ZVS) active clamp forward converter is proposed. Since the ripple current of secondary inductor plays a key role in the ZVS operation of main power switch, the proposed converter shows an excellent ZVS performance. The synchronous rectification is employed to reduce the rectification loss. The operational principle and ZVS analysis are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve an excellent ZVS performance throughout all load conditions and the significant improvement in the efficiency for the 100W(5V,20A) prototype converter.
