The Effect of Nozzle Collar on Single Phase and Boiling Heat Transfer by Planar Impinging Jet (평면 충돌제트에서 노즐 깃이 단상 및 비등 열전달에 미치는 영향)

  • The water jet impingement cooling is one of the techniques to remove the heat from high heat flux equipments. Local heat transfer of the confined water impinging jet and the effect of nozzle collar to enhance the heat transfer are investigated in the fee surface jet and submerged jet. Boiling is initiated from the farthest downstream and increase of the wall temperature is reduced with developing boiling, forming the flat temperature distributions. The reduction in the nozzle-to-surface distance fur H/W$\le$1 causes significant increases and distribution changes of heat transfer. Developed boiling reduces the differences of heat transfer for various conditions. The nozzle collar is employed at the nozzle exit. The distances from heated surface to nozzle collar, Hc are 0.25W, 0.5W and 1.0W. The liquid film thickness is reduced and the velocity of wall jet increases as decreased spacing of collar to heated surface. Heat transfer is enhanced fur region from the stagnation to x/W$\~$8 in the free surface jet and to x/W$\~$5 in the submerged jet. For nucleate boiling region of further downstream, the heat transfer by the nozzle collar is decreased in submerged jet comparing with higher velocity condition. It is because the increased velocity by collar is de-accelerated downstream.

A Comparative Study of the Incompressibility Constraint on the Rigid Plastic Finite Element Method (강소성 유한요소법에서 비압축성조건의 비교 연구)

  • The governing functional in plastic deformation has to satisfy the incompressibility constraint. This incompressibility constraint imposed on velocity fields can be removed by introducing either Lagrange multiplier or the penalty constant into the functional. In this study, two-dimensional rigid plastic FEM programs using these schemes were developed. These two programs and DEFORM were applied in a cylinder upsetting and a closed die forging to compare the values of load, local mean stress and volume loss. As the results, the program using Lagrange multiplier obtained a more exact and stable solution, but it took more computational time than the program using the penalty constant. Therefore, according to user's need, one of these two programs can be chosen to simulate a metal forming processes.

  • In this paper, the rigid-viscoplastic finite element solutions obtained by MINI-elements based triangular elements and tetrahedral elements are compared with those obtained from numerically well-behaved rectangular and hexahedral elements. The theoretical background of the MINI-elements is introduced in detail and the rigid-viscoplastic finite element formulation is also given. Discussion on the results of the MINI-elements is made with emphasis on the effect of a stabilizer simplifying velocity-bubble coupled terms.

  • The die design for hot forging was investigated for manufacturing precisely of scroll rotor made with Al-Si alloy. A scroll rotor is a non-symmetric 3-D shape part, having involute wraps. Disk-shaped billet of Al-Si alloy was extruded to wraps and boss simultaneously. Because the involute wraps is not axi-symmetric, the flow velocity and the stress of die is very much different at each portion. Moreover, the die in wraps portion is a cantilever beam and fractured. In this paper, the analysis of forming and die stress is investigated using the FEM tool, DEFORM-3D. The tensile strength of tool material is $250kg/mm^{2}$. From the analysis results, we can find the maximum principal stress of die is over the fracture strength and redesign the die. The prototype forged part is superior in net shaping and microstructure.

  • For metal forming analysis, upper-bound solution is practical method because the solution is overestimated. It is limited to determine stresses on tools by using upper-bound solution. In this study, new scheme to calculate stresses on tools based on upper bound solution is proposed. To verify the proposed scheme, plane strain drawing has been considered. The stresses on tools obtained by the proposed scheme are compared with results of rigid plastic FEM. And the stresses on tools have been determined by the proposed scheme in the forging within plane strain deformation.

  • This paper has executed FE-analysis to review the feasibility for developing the process, which produces the narrow-cubic type cans, using the Backward Impact Extrusion process instead of using current process, multi-stage deep drawing. Proposes an analysis method by applying ALE(Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) description to non-axisymmetric extrusion. which is appreciated as one of good solution to mesh distortion in case of the large deformation plasticity process that has mass flux, and considers the factors which affects forming-loads related to punch velocity and fulid status of material.

  • The purpose of this study is preparing the database for conventional spinning of the steel sheets which are applied into the mechanical parts such as wheel disc and driving clutch drums. The experimental work for the conventional spinning of cylindrical typed shell has been carried out and the database for limiting spinning ratios, suing-back and thickness distributions has been obtained. The working conditions are categorized for the feeding velocity and dimension of rotating mandrel and forming roller. The results are useful to the product design of conical parts. And the present study can contribute to the improvement of industrial technology.

  • In this paper, the formation of a corner cavity in the final stage of axisymmetric backward extrusion process is studied by means of upper bound analysis using kinematically admissible velocity. The quantitative relationships between corner cavity formation and process parameters are studied. And analytical results are compared with those of experiment to which plasticine is used. It is found that the analytical results agree well with experimental one. In addition, to restrict the formation of a corner cavity, driven container is applied to backward extrusion and the results are compared with those of FEM. The critical thickness of the bottom of the billet decreases with increase in reduction of area, and increases with decrease in friction. To prevent the formation of corner cavity, the concept of moving container was applied. Throughout this process, the occurrence of a corner cavity is delayed and forming limit area is enlarged.

  • The purpose of this study is to experimentally research the effects of polymer additives on turbulent transition of Couette flow between concentric cylinders when outer one is rotating and inner one is at rest; the diameter ratio being 0.2. Aqueous polymer solution generate the degradation phenomena in machine forming work, but this is not effected in about 10 minute at 5ppm. aqueous polymer solution testing. The Reynolds number, referred to the gap distance and rotation velocity of the outer cylinder, of turbulent transition is about 20000 for water flow. In the laminer region, the torque value is as same as theoretical one in the region of low Reynolds number, but becomes high with an increase in the Reynolds number. The polymer additives reduce the Reynolds number for turbulent transtition. In the turbulent region, the torque is remarkably reduced by the polymer additives, soluble polymer take down effect of turbulent transition boundary torque.
