  • To determine the amylase fromation mechanism and the effect of GA. in germinating barley seeds, they were divided into embryo-less seed, isolated embryo, aleurone layer and pure endosperm etc., treated with GA, and cultured separately or in mixed lots. The result obtained are as follows. 1) The amylase of barley seed is formed in the aleurone layer under the effect of inducing materials excreted from the embryo. 2) The embryonic materials amylase formation could be substituted for by GA. Therefore it can be presumed that the substance produced by the embryo which induces amylase synthesis is probably GA or material similar to it.

  • The formation properties and oxidation mechanism of electrochemically oxidized porous silicon(OPS) films have been studied. To examine the humidity-sensitive properties of OPS films, surface-type and bulk-type humidity sensors were fabricated. The oxidized thickness of porous silicon layer(PSL) increases with the charge supplied during electrochemical humidity sensor shows high sensitivity at high relative humidity in low temperature. The sensitivity and linearity can be improved by optimizing a porosity of PSL. (author). refs., figs.

  • Photolysis of dichlorodiphenylmethane in glassy 2-MeTHF at 77K results in the formation of diphenylcarbene and the diphenylchloromethyl radical, which were detected by their flourescence emission and excitation spectra. The relative yield of the carbene to radical is shown to vary dramatically as a function of irradiation time. The photolability of the radical is also demonstated. These results were interpreted in terms of a two step mechanism, where the diphenylchloromethyl radical is an intermediate in the formation of diphenylcarbene.

  • Effects of iron compounds in known biomimetic oxidation systems (Gif IV and GoAgg II) have been studied on activity and ketone/alcohol selectivity of cyclohexane oxidation. Both ketone/alcohol ratio and cyclohexane conversion were affected by counter-ion Z of iron compounds Z-Fe. When Z has a more electron withdrawing property, the reactivity is increased and the formation of ketone is favored. From these experimental results, a new mechanism is proposed for the biomimetic oxidation system.

  • The reaction of 5-aryl-2-phenylisoxazolidine-3-thiones with more than 3 equivalents of anhydrous aluminum chloride in benzene at reflux gave N-(p-biphenylyl)-3-aryl-3-phenylpropanothioamides in good yields. It is conceived that the propanothioamides are formed via the formation of the corresponding N-phenyl-3-aryl-3-phenylpropanothiohydroxamic acids.

  • The solid state reaction of Mo/Si multilayer thin films produced by RF magnetron sputtering technique was examine dusing differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and x-ray diffraction, and explained in view of two concepts, effective drivig force and effective heat of formation. In constant scanning rate DSC, there were two exothermic peks which corresponded to the formation of h-MoSi2 and t-MoSi2 , respectively. The activation energyfor theformation of h-MoSi2 was 1.5eV , and that of t-MoSi2 was 7.8eV. Nucleation wa stherate controlling mechanism for each of the silicide formation. Amorphous phase was not formed , which was consistent withtheprediction by the concept of effective driving force. h-MoSi2 the first crystalline phase, was considered to have lower interfacial free energy than t-MoSi2 and by increasing temperature it was transformed into more stable t-MoSi2.

  • Poly(ethylene-co-vinylacetate)(EVA) microspheres were prepared by thermally induced phase separation in toluene. The microsphere formation occurred by the nucleation and growth mechanism in metastable region. The effects of the polymer or pigment weight percentage and cooling rate on microsphere formation were investigated. The microsphere formation and growth were followed by the cloud point of the optical microscope measurement. The microsphere size distribution, which was obtained by particle size analyzer, became broader when the polymer concentration was higher, the pigment concentration and the cooling rate of EVA copolymer solution were lower.

  • The present study is aiming at numerically analyze the soot formation processes coupled with gas reaction mechanism in turbulent non-premixed and partially premixed flames. In order to realistically represent turbulence-chemistry interactions with detailed chemical kinetics and soot formation behaviour related to the turbulent non-premixed and partially premixed flames, the transient flamelet[1] and flamelet based level-set approach[2] are coupled with soot formation based on the two equation model [3] and DQMOM (Direct Quadrature Method of Moment)[4].

  • The reaction mechanism of Lead ions catalyzing complexation reactions between TIPP and metal ions was investigated by researching the kinetics of the formation of metalloporphyrins by UV/Vis-spectra, and verified by exploring the formation of metalloporphyrins catalyzed by acetic acid. Kinetics studies suggested that the fluctuations of reaction rate indicated the formation of metalloporphyrin was step-wise, including the pre-equilibrium step (the coordination of the pyrrolenine nitrogens to $Mn^+$) and the rate-controlling step (the deprotonation of the pyrrole proton). In the pre-equalization step, a sitting-atop (SAT) structure formed first with the complexation between larger radius of $Pb^{2+}$ and TIPP, changed the activation, then $Pb^{2+}$ left with the smaller radius of metal ions attacking from the back of the porphyrin ring center. In the rate-controlling step, two pyrrole protons dissociated to restore a stable structure. This was verified by adding acetic acid at different reaction times.

  • The mechanism of formation of perovskite phase and the dielectric properties of PZMN[Pb(Zn, Mg)1/3Nb2/3O3] ceramics were examined using two different types of the columbite precursors, (Mg, Zn)Nb2O6 (MZN) and MgNb2O6+ZnNb2O6 (MN+ZN). The formatin of perovskite phase in PbO+MN+ZN system is characterized by an initial rapid formation of Mg-rich perovskite phase, followed by a sluggish formation of Zn-rich perovskite phase. On the other hand, thepyrochlore/perovskite transformation in the PbO+MZN system proceeded uniformly with a spatial homogeneity. The degree of diffuseness of the rhombohedral/cubic phase transitionis higher in the PbO+MN+ZN system than in the PbO+MZN specimen, indicating a broadened compositional distributjion of the B-site catons (Nb+5, Zn+2, Mg+2) in the PbO+MN+ZN system.
