Observations of dark matter dominated dwarf and low surface brightness disk galaxies favor density profiles with a flat-density core, while cold dark matter (CDM) N-body simulations form halos with central cusps, instead. This apparent discrepancy has motivated a re-examination of the microscopic nature of the dark matter in order to explain the observed halo profiles, including the suggestion that CDM has a non-gravitational self-interaction. We study the formation and evolution of self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) halos. We find analytical, fully cosmological similarity solutions for their dynamics, which take proper account of the collisional interaction of SIDM particles, based on a fluid approximation derived from the Boltzmann equation. The SIDM particles scatter each other elastically, which results in an effective thermal conductivity that heats the halo core and flattens its density profile. These similarity solutions are relevant to galactic and cluster halo formation in the CDM model. We assume that the local density maximum which serves as the progenitor of the halo has an initial mass profile ${\delta}M / M {\propto} M^{-{\epsilon}$, as in the familiar secondary infall model. If $\epsilon$ = 1/6, SIDM halos will evolve self-similarly, with a cold, supersonic infall which is terminated by a strong accretion shock. Different solutions arise for different values of the dimensionless collisionality parameter, $Q {\equiv}{\sigma}p_br_s$, where $\sigma$ is the SIDM particle scattering cross section per unit mass, $p_b$ is the cosmic mean density, and $r_s$ is the shock radius. For all these solutions, a flat-density, isothermal core is present which grows in size as a fixed fraction of $r_s$. We find two different regimes for these solutions: 1) for $Q < Q_{th}({\simeq} 7.35{\times} 10^{-4}$), the core density decreases and core size increases as Q increases; 2) for $Q > Q_{th}$, the core density increases and core size decreases as Q increases. Our similarity solutions are in good agreement with previous results of N-body simulation of SIDM halos, which correspond to the low-Q regime, for which SIDM halo profiles match the observed galactic rotation curves if $Q {\~} [8.4 {\times}10^{-4} - 4.9 {\times} 10^{-2}]Q_{th}$, or ${\sigma}{\~} [0.56 - 5.6] cm^2g{-1}$. These similarity solutions also show that, as $Q {\to}{\infty}$, the central density acquires a singular profile, in agreement with some earlier simulation results which approximated the effects of SIDM collisionality by considering an ordinary fluid without conductivity, i.e. the limit of mean free path ${\lambda}_{mfp}{\to} 0$. The intermediate regime where $Q {\~} [18.6 - 231]Q_{th}$ or ${\sigma}{\~} [1.2{\times}10^4 - 2.7{\times}10^4] cm^2g{-1}$, for which we find flat-density cores comparable to those of the low-Q solutions preferred to make SIDM halos match halo observations, has not previously been identified. Further study of this regime is warranted.

Microdeletions of chromosome 22q11.2 are one of the most common microdeletions occurring in humans, and is known to be associated with a wide range of highly variable features. These deletions occur within a cluster of low copy repeats (LCRs) in 22q11.2, referred to as LCR22 A-H. DiGeorge (DGS)/velocardiofacial syndrome is the most prevalent form of a 22q11.2 deletions, caused by mainly proximal deletions between LCR22 A and D. As deletions of distal portion to the DGS deleted regions has been extensively studied, the recurrent distal 22q11.2 microdeletions distinct from DGS has been suggested as several clinical entities according to the various in size and position of the deletions on LCRs. We report a case of long-term follow-up of a female diagnosed with a 22q11.2 distal deletion syndrome, identified a deletion of 1.9 Mb at 22q11.21q11.23 (chr22: 21,798,906-23,653,963) using single nucleotide polymorphism array. This region was categorized as distal deletion type of 22q11.2, involving LCR22 D-F. She was born as a preterm, low birth weight to healthy non-consanguineous Korean parents. She showed developmental delay, growth retardation, dysmorphic facial features, and mild skeletal deformities. The patient underwent a growth hormone administration due to growth impairment without catch-up growth. While a height gain was noted, she had become overweight and was subsequently diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Our case could help broaden the genetic and clinical spectrum of 22q11.2 distal deletions.
In barred galaxies, gaseous structures such a nuclear ring and dust lanes are formed by a non-axisymmetric stellar bar potential, and the evolution of the stellar bar is influenced by mass inflows to the center and central star formation. To study how the presence of the gas affects the evolution of the stellar bar, we use the mesh-free hydrodynamics code GIZMO and run fully self-consistent three-dimensional simulations. To explore the evolution with differing initial conditions, we vary the fraction of the gas and stability of initial disks. In cases when the initial disk is stable with Q=1.2, the bar strength in the model with 5% gas is weaker than that in the gas-free model, while the bar with 10% gas does not form a bar. This suggests that the gaseous component is unfavorable to the bar formation dynamically. On the other hand, in models with relatively unstable disk with Q=1.0, the presence of gas helps form a bar: the bar forms more rapidly and strongly as the gas fraction increases. This is because the unable disks form stars vigorously, which in turn cools down the stellar disk by adding newly-created stars with low velocity dispersion. However, the central mass concentration also quickly increases as the bar grows in these unstable models, resulting in fast bar dissolution in gas rich models. We will discuss our results in comparison with previous work.
Background: Palatal injections are often painful. We aimed to compare topical ice and 20% benzocaine gel for pre-injection anesthesia before greater palatine nerve block (GPNB) injections. Methods: A randomized split-mouth clinical trial was conducted among patients aged 15-60-years needing bilateral GPNB injections. A total of 120 palatal sites from 60 patients were randomly allocated to Group A (topical ice) or Group B (20% benzocaine gel). Pain was evaluated using sound, eye, motor (SEM), and the visual analog scale (VAS) in both groups. Inferential analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The mean age of the participants was 20.5 ± 3.9 years. The median VAS score for group A was 11 (Q1 - Q3: 5.25 - 21.75), which was slightly higher than the 10 (Q1 - Q3: 4.0 - 26.75) reported in group B. However, the difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.955). The median SEM score for group A and group B was 3.5 (Q1 - Q3: 3.0 - 4.0) and 4.0 (Q1 - Q3: 3.0 - 4.0), respectively, which was statistically insignificant (P = 0.869). Conclusion: Using ice as a form of topical anesthetic for achieving pre-injection anesthesia before GPNB was as effective as 20% benzocaine gel.
This study represents the mechanism of progressive succession and potential natural vegetation on the forest vegetation in and surrounding Daegu. As a result of DCA, the feature of community was determined by an altitude and humid gradients. The soil moisture, contents of organic matter and total nitrogen increased as the community developed. In the interspecific association analysis, the forest vegetation was divided into two species groups and they were influenced by temperature and soil moisture. Especially, each two groups showed different stages of vegetation development according to the progressive succession and life form composition supported those results. It was predicted that Quercus variabilis, Q. acutissima, Q. dentata and Pinus densiflora communities would develop into Q. serrata community or Q. mongolica community depending on their location or species composition. In the study area, the potential natural vegetation was divided into 3 communities by biogeographical gradients such as species composition, soil environment, and geographical features: 1)Q. mongolica community in the middle-upper area of the mountain, 2)Q. serrata community in the middle-lower area of the mountain and 3)Carpinus cordata-Acer mono community in the cove area. It is suggested that the Q.mongolica and C.cordata-A.mono communities become actual vegetation and potential natural vegetation. But it is also suggested that the P. densiflora community would be changed into the potential natural vegetation of the Q. mongolica community and Q. serrata community on the basis of the present species composition.
In this paper, we establish several geometric characterizations focusing on the relationship between the squared norm of the second fundamental form and the warping function of SCR-lightlike warped product submanifolds in an indefinite Kaehler manifold. In particular, we find an estimate for the squared norm of the second fundamental form h in terms of the Hessian of the warping function λ for SCR-lightlike warped product submanifolds of an indefinite complex space form. Consequently, we derive an optimal inequality, namely $${\parallel}h{\parallel}^2{\geq}2q\{{\Delta}(ln{\lambda})+{\parallel}{\nabla}(ln{\lambda}){\parallel}^2+\frac{c}{2}p\}$$, for SCR-lightlike warped product submanifolds in an indefinite complex space form. We also provide one non-trivial example for this class of warped products in an indefinite Kaehler manifold.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore subjective perceptions of good nurses' images perceived by nursing students using Q-methodology and to identify characteristics by types and reflect them in nursing education. Methods: Between December 21 and November 30, 2017, using Q-methodology, 31 nursing students from two universities sorted and rated 34 Q-statements on a nine-point scale according to the degree of their agreement. A data analysis was conducted using the PC-QUANL program. Results: The images of good nurses, as perceived by nursing college students, were extracted into three types, each of which had unique characteristics; the cumulative variance was 55%. Three types were identified as "Task-oriented health professional type," "Emotional companion type," and "Flexible mediator type" respectively. Conclusion: This study investigated the significant differences of subjectivity in images of good nurses perceived by nursing college students. The results of this study can be applied to the development and application of a nursing education curriculum that helps nursing college students form positive nursing images and grow into competent nurses.
This research was conducted in order to understand the hybridization between Quercus aliena Blume and Q. serrata Murray in Korea which show wide range of morphological variations within species and interspecific variations of diverse overlapping characteristics caused by hybridization. Morphological analysis (principal components analysis; PCA) of 116 individuals representing two species and their intermediates were performed. As a result, two species were clearly distinguished in terms of morphology, and intermediate morpho-types assumed to be hybrids between the two species were mostly located in the middle of each parent species in the plot of the principal components analysis. There was a clear distinction between two species in trichome distribution pattern which is an important diagnostic character in taxonomy of genus Quercus, whereas intermediate morpho-types showed intermediate state between two species' trichome distributions. Forty-two individuals representing two species and their intermediates were examined for leaf flavonoid constituents. Twenty-three flavonoid compounds were isolated and identified: They were glycosylated derivatives of flavonols, kaempferol, quercetin, isorhamnetin and myricetin. The flavonoid constituents of Q. aliena were five glycosylated derivatives: kaempferol 3-O-galactoside, kaempferol 3-O-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-galactoside, quercetin 3-O-glucoside, and Isorhamnetin 3-O-glucoside. The flavonoid constituents of Q. serrata had 20 diverse flavonol compounds including five flavonoid compounds found in Q. aliena. It was found that there is a clear difference in flavonoid constituents of Q. aliena and Q. serrata. Flavonoid chemistry is very useful in recognizing each species and putative hybrids. The flavonoid constituents of intermediates were a mixture of the two species' constituents and they generally showed similar characteristics to morpho-types. The hybrids between Q. aliena and Q. serrata showed morphologically and chemically diverse characteristics and it is assumed that there are frequent interspecific hybridization and introgression.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to understand the organizational culture of nurses by categorizing nurses' experience of coping with bullying in the workplace through Q methodology and analyzing the characteristics of each type, and to induce correct policy measures and interventions to create an atmosphere created in the nursing clinical field to be more advanced and positive. Methods: To form the Q population, focus group interviews were conducted with nurses working for more than six months at two general hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi. Interviews were conducted by 12 nurses introduced to participants who can provide researchers with a wealth of information on workplace bullying experiences without filtration. In addition, the Q population was extracted by reviewing the results. Based on the results derived from this, 38 Q statements in total were extracted. Forty clinical nurses were required to classify Q sample statements, and the data collected through this were analyzed using the pc-QUANAL program. Results: As a result of the analysis, a total of five types of clinical nurses' experiences of coping with bullying in the workplace were identified: 'tense emotion-based tolerance response,' 'positive thinking-based self-effort response', 'individualistic thinking-based passive response', 'support system-based emotional expression response' and 'active response centered on problem-solving'. Conclusion: The derived response types are expected to be guidelines for suggesting strategies to eradicate bullying in the workplace at the organizational level, individual level, prevention level, and organizational culture level.
In this paper, we consider the biharmonic elliptic systems of the form $$\{{\Delta}^2u=F_u(u,v)+{\lambda}{\mid}u{\mid}^{q-2}u,\;x{\in}{\Omega},\\{\Delta}^2v=F_v(u,v)+{\delta}{\mid}v{\mid}^{q-2}v,\;x{\in}{\Omega},\\u=\frac{{\partial}u}{{\partial}n}=0,\; v=\frac{{\partial}v}{{\partial}n}=0,\;x{\in}{\partial}{\Omega},$$, where ${\Omega}{\subset}\mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary ${\partial}{\Omega}$, ${\Delta}^2$ is the biharmonic operator, $N{\geq}5$, $2{\leq}q$ < $2^*$, $2^*=\frac{2N}{N-4}$ denotes the critical Sobolev exponent, $F{\in}C^1(\mathbb{R}^2,\mathbb{R}^+)$ is homogeneous function of degree $2^*$. By using the variational methods and the Ljusternik-Schnirelmann theory, we obtain multiplicity result of nontrivial solutions under certain hypotheses on ${\lambda}$ and ${\delta}$.
