  • In order to decrease the area damaged by forest fires and to prevent the occurrence of forest fires, we are making an effort to improve prevention measures for forest fires. The objective of this study is to classify hazard regions where forest fires occur based on the factors that contribute to the occurrence of forest fires. Forest fire sites in the Uiseong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do were surveyed according to the factors of forest type and topographic characteristics where the forest fires occurred. We used a correlation analysis to determine the forest fire occurrence factors and a conditional probability analysis and GIS to determine a forest fire danger index. The resulting forest fire danger index was used in the classification of forest fire occurrence risk regions.

  • In order to decrease the area damaged by forest fires and to prevent the occurrence of forest fires, we are making an effort to improve prevention measures for forest fires. The objective of this study is developing the forest fire occurrence probability model by means of forest site characteristics such as soil type, topography, soil texture, slope, and drainage and forest fire sites. Conditional probability analysis and GIS were used in developing the forest fire occurrence probability model that was used in the classification of forest fire occurrence risk regions.

  • In this study, analyzed national forest fire statistics by cause, year, region, and damage scale based on the National Fire Data System. as a result, the main cause of forest fires was the most frequent human error. forest fires occurred in areas with high population density. and it was confirmed that the Widest area of forest damage was Gang-Won province, which is rich in forestry resources. by season, it occurred a lot in spring because of the warm temperature and strong wind and low humidity. such disasters directly damage forest facilities such as house and cultural properties as well as destruction of natural resources. therefore in this study, made a suggestion plan for prevention from forest fire with forest fire prevention comprehensive plan of MFOA.

  • This paper deals with the experimental results that apply to a new wire by an artificial flame-maker because it's difficult to directly analyze the characteristic of deterioration by a forest fire. Those results include surface characteristics for a conductor. In addition, there's been an experiment and analysis about the surface characteristics of the wire of ACSR 480$\textrm{mm}^2$ which was removed from Pohang area by a forest fire. Then, the database will be made to predict the state of deteriorated wires by a forest fire using those two data, and data necessary to diagnose the life state of an ACSR wire affected by a forest fire will be given.

  • This study was carried out to obtain the basic model to estimate damage degree from the correlation analysis between forest fire and site environment factors and to clarify the restoration trends thorough multi-temporal survey by observing species diversity followed by various treatments at damaged forest area over time. From the derived model, the damage degree of forest fire was higher in the area of dense coniferous stands composed of simple story at the elevation of about 100m and 200m, and on steeper slope area over 30 degree. As results of this study, fire damaged trees are needed to cut down and a mixed stand with deciduous and coniferous species from the same area is desirable for the future species composition on fire damaged forest. Thus, site characteristics, local species, and mixed stands are the main consideration to enhance the vegetation recovery.

This study was conducted to forecast risk regions where forest fires occur based on the factors of forest type and topographic characteristics and predict hazard regions where forest fires is expanded to large-scale forest fire based on the forest type characteristics in Uiseong-Gun. The results of classification of forest fire risk and hazard regions using GIS indicate 4% of the total areas in Uiseong-Gun.

  • To control forest fire effectively, it is necessary to understand forest fire behavior and relevance to forest fire environmental factors. In this paper, the behavior characteristics of the 2005 Yangyang forest fire were analyzed into the spread patterns and severity grades. The spread processes of the forest fire could be divided into two steps. At the first step, the fire ran fast to the east due to the strong west wind and then spreaded out in irregular direction. The maximum spread rate of the fire was 1.21km/hr and the mean was 0.65 km/hr. The result of the fire severity classification indicated that about $80\%$(1,110ha) of the whole study site was extremely burned and the remaining $15\%(211 ha)\;and\;5\%(61 ha)$ were damaged slightly and moderately respectively.

  • Porcelain insulators have generally been used in Korea but polymer insulators which are superior in that they are light weight, explosion proof, impact proof, economical with construction characteristics, have been in use for the 154kV transmission line since 1999 following a worldwide trend towards the reduced weight, simplification and compact usage of new material insulators. However there have been approximately 500 cases of forest fires in Korea, so the transmission lines that for the most part pass through mountainous areas have been highly effected and the highly polymerized compound polymer insulator has raised concern about reliability in cases of exposure to forest fires. Therefore for the reliability assessment of the effect of forest fires on polymer insulators, mechanical and electrical characteristics are analyzed by an artificial flare test device and transmission facility surrounding conditions along with forest fire characteristics are surveyed. In addition to this, actual 90kV energized transmission line was tested with an artificial forest fire and the expanded usage of polymer insulators is presented through the analysis of mechanical and electrical characteristics and physical properties, and a study on the influence of forest fires on polymer insulators.

  • This study was carried out to examine the forest fire effect on water storage characteristics in the forests. Water storage capacity of the burned area was analyzed by several major factors, such as soil pore, maximum water content, effective water storage, and percolation rate. The results obtained from the analysis of major factors are as follows; The deeper soil depth, the less total pore, coarse pore, effective water storage, and percolation rate. However, fine pore increased slightly in both burned area and control plot. As compared with control plot, burned area showed lower percolation rate, coarse pore, and effective water storage, but higher values of fine pore. Directly after forest fire, the soil pore is little affected. But as the time passes, top soil structure changes and soil pore also is affected even in a deep soil. Estimated effective water storage was lower at top soil of Namcheon and at deep soil of Namha in all the burned areas, but slowly decreased in deep soil compared to control plots. Therefore it was concluded that forest water storage capacity was greatly affected by the forest fire.
