  • In the past, the domestic research on mobile forensics has been limited to cell phones. Increasing use of smart phones, studies on smart phone forensic will be conducted actively in the future. In particular, the study on Android forensic is very important because Android smart phone market share is increasing rapidly. In this paper, we describe an implementation of an Android smart phone forensic tool based on logical analysis. Compared with Oxygen Forensic Suite 2010, this tool saves time it takes to perform Android smart phone forensic because this tool provides search feature and resource links for extracted media information. So far, no smart phone forensic tool is introduced in Korea. Accordingly, this tool would contribute to the advancement of the technology on smart phone forensic.

  • This research is about the development of e-forensic tool that extract & analyze different forms of digital evidence that individuals come across in a disaster scene. The tool utilizes digital forensic techniques which makes the tool efficient in any disaster analysis situation. In order for the forensic evidence to be selected as legal evidence, the evidence needs to be proven that it is in its original state with no forgery involved. This is where the e-forensic tool comes in, as its ability to collect digital evidence during investigation has proven; that the tool can keep the evidence in its original state and increase the integrity by generating hash TAG and adding the forensic evidence to a password encoded file.

  • Smartphone is very useful for use in the real world, but it has been exposed to a lot of crime by smartphone. Also, it occurs attempting to delete a data of smartphone memory by anti-forensic tools. In this paper, we implement an anti-forensic tool used in the Android. In addition, tests to validate the availability of the anti-forensic tool by the Oxygen Forensic Suite that is a commercial forensic tool.

  • Fundamental processes in digital forensic investigation - such as disk imaging - were developed when digital investigation was relatively young. As digital forensic processes and procedures matured, these fundamental tools, that are the pillars of the reset of the data processing and analysis phases of an investigation, largely stayed the same. This work is a study of modern digital forensic imaging software tools. Specifically, we will examine the feature sets of modern digital forensic imaging tools, as well as their development and release cycles to understand patterns of fundamental tool development. Based on this survey, we show the weakness in current digital investigation fundamental software development and maintenance over time. We also provide recommendations on how to improve fundamental tools.

  • Nowadays, there exist many forensic tools in forensic investigation. For common investigator it may cause some difficulty in handling the existing forensic tools. In case of urgent condition, if it takes long time to get the useful evidence from data, then it makes the investigation process difficult. Thus, the common investigator can collect the evidence easily by simple clicking the mouse. The only thing he needs is a tool for examination before investigating in details. Therefore, in this paper we refer to useful information in the forensic investigation, discuss the design and the implementation of tool.

  • Recently, IM(Instant Messenger) of KakaoTalk is being used on smart devices such as smartphones. Because IM service can carry user and/or suspector's various information including life style, geographical position, psychology and crime history, forensic analysis on IM service is desirable. But, forensic analysis for KakaoTalk is not well studied yet. This paper studies a proper forensic method for KakaoTalks, finds artifacts location, reconstruct the list of contacts and the chronology of the messages that have been exchanged by users. Proposed methodology and analyzed information can provide a basic platform for forensic tool.

  • As E-discovery in criminal investigation is increasing, the importance of Forensic Tools which can legally extract data with high effectiveness is getting higher. Digital products are growing fast. Therefore, Forensic Tools should be implemented readily to suit users and events well. Although forensic industry and governments use expensive forensic tools, some have suggested limitations to its use, such as memory limitations and the limits of post-audit. We need to develop open source forensic tools that can implement a variety of forensic tool fast. This research studies digital forensics technical skills which are commercialized currently and suggests applicable strategies of the open digital forensics to help overcome these limitations.

  • For an accurate analysis through the forensic of digital devices and computer, it is a very important validation of the reliability of digital forensic tools. To verify the reliability of the tool, it is necessary to research and development of the data set to be input to the tool. In many-used Windows operating system of the computer, there is a Window forensic artifacts associated with time and system behavior. In this paper, we developed a set of data in the Windows operating system to be able to analyze all of the two Windows artifacts and we conducted a test with published digital forensic tools. Therefore, the developed data set presents the use of the following method. First, artefacts education for growing ability can be analyzed acts standards. Secondly, the purpose of tool tests for verifying the reliability of digital forensics. Lastly, recyclability for new artifact analysis.

  • File system forensics typically focus on the contents or timestamps of a file, and it is common to work around file/directory centers. But to recover a deleted file on the disk or use a carving technique to find and connect partial missing content, the evidence must be analyzed using cluster-centered analysis. Forensics tools such as EnCase, TSK, and X-ways, provide a basic ability to get information about disk clusters, but these are not the core functions of the tools. Alternatively, Sysinternals' DiskView tool provides a more intuitive visualization function, which makes it easier to obtain information around disk clusters. In addition, most current tools are for Windows. There are very few forensic analysis tools for MacOS, and furthermore, cluster analysis tools are very rare. In this paper, we developed a tool named FACT (Forensic Analyzer based Cluster Information Tool) for analyzing the state of clusters in a HFS+ file system, for digital forensics. The FACT consists of three features, a Cluster based analysis, B-tree based analysis, and Directory based analysis. The Cluster based analysis is the main feature, and was basically developed for cluster analysis. The FACT tool's cluster visualization feature plays a central role. The FACT tool was programmed in two programming languages, C/C++ and Python. The core part for analyzing the HFS+ filesystem was programmed in C/C++ and the visualization part is implemented using the Python Tkinter library. The features in this study will evolve into key forensics tools for use in MacOS, and by providing additional GUI capabilities can be very important for cluster-centric forensics analysis.
