This study presents the case of technology assessment system as one of the major tools for R&D planning and analyzes the various cases of the domestic and foreign technology assessment systems to develop the differentiated and effective technology assessment system.

With architectural technology, a building has been a far dense and close. So the thermal environment of the building has become pleasant, but the quality of indoor air has been degraded. Using synthetic products for construction materials and furniture indoors escalates the concentration of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) at indoor air, threatening the health of the residents. To reduce the concentration of volatile organic compounds at indoor air, many methods are designed, and of late, concern has been increased about the effect of air purification using air purifying plants. Field measurements were performed using Aglaonema brevispathum, Pachira aquatica and Ficus benjamiana, which were verified as air-purifying plants by NASA. The effect of reducing the concentration of air contaminants by plant studied in a full scale mock-up model. The variations of concentration of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Formaldehyde were monitored. In most cases, the effect was excellent in Toluene and formaldehyde in summer.

Among different graft materials for craniofacial reconstruction, calcium phosphate cements have the advantages of alloplastic grafts and wide use. The authors report a case of foreign body reaction following frontal reconstruction with JectOS (an injectable calcium orthophosphate cement; Kasios) and reviewed the literature on complications of this material after craniofacial reconstruction from 2002 to 2017. Complications were categorized into two groups: immunologic reactions (consisting of seroma collection, chronic sinus mucosa swelling, and foreign body reaction) and non-immune events (infection, fragmentation, and ejection). It is wise to use calcium phosphate-based material only in selected cases with small defects, and long-term follow-up is needed to observe their consequences.

We have recently experienced three interesting foreign bodies in the air way. Case 1. A spring coil of ball pen which was rusty and divided into two for one year was in the right inferior lobar bronchus of a 10 year old boy. Case 2. A bean lodged on the orifice of the right upper lobar bronchus and right middle lobar bronchus, resulted in complete atelectasis of the right upper and middle lobes of a 6 month old girl. Cases 3. A wire used in fixing a pair of socks was hanged transeversely for one month between epiglottis and hypopharynx of a 11 month old boy.

Recently, the smart sensors and USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technologies are emerging. Smart sensors add the capability of storing local temporary data, processing instant operations, transmitting information outward, to the simple sensing devices. The USN is a wireless network of sensor/smart sensors that can collect data anywhere anytime and exchange the data within the network. In this research, case studies are performed on the smart sensors and USN applications. The cases were grouped in four categories, domestic private, domestic public, foreign private, and foreign public. Based on that survey, promising applications will be proposed and developed to be implemented to the next generation high-speed EMU.

Of the 2,593 children picture books published in Korea between 2001 and 2003, 46% were Korean in origin, while 53.9% were Korean translations of books originally in English, Japanese, French, or German. This study compared 45 of the translations with the originals. Of these, 49.2% had contents not included in the originals, and 31.1 % had omitted contents. More over, 7.6% of the Korean versions were different in punctuation codes and signs, and 6.7% were different from originals in length of sentences. Most of the books were on general or global issues rather than culture-bound. However, among the English books, there were more than 20 cases different from Korean culture in person's names, external appearance, food, and/or clothing.

Tunneling is a very dangerous and expansive work. Especially, the concrete lining works need many long hours and much cost. As an alternative, the unlined tunneling methods including NMT have been developed in various country. These methods have advantages in cost, time and quality. In Korea, many considerations have been conducted to apply the unlined tunneling method in comparatively good rock. Since primary reinforcements play the role of the final supporting system in unlined tunnels, the initial stiffness and long term durability of reinforcements are very important for tunnel safety. To establish the reinforcements standard suitable to Korea, we investigated the foreign standards and construction cases, comparing geological and construction conditions of foreign land and Korea. As the result, we have proposed the standard of primary supporting system for unlined tunnel in aspects of material, design, construction and quality control etc.

Foreign bodies in food passages are not uncommon problems in the otolaryngological fields. Many authors have reported many cases and statistical analysis of them. This is a report of an interesting case, a 57-year-old woman who swallowed the gall bladder of a dog, containing the bile juice, which was lodged between the second and the third physiologic narrowing of the esophagus. This patient had a past history of lye ingestion in her twenties.

The majority of esophageal foreign bodies can be removed by esophagoscopy, but some cases may require removal by external route. Recently, we experienced an impacted denture in the third esophageal constriction area, and the patient has pre-existing progressive muscular dystropy. We tried esophagoscopic removal for several times, but failed because the denture clasps were penetrated into the esophageal wall. Open thoracotomy was performed and impacted denture was successfully removed.

This study is to research application cases of domestic ventilation system for developing ventilation system which is energy-saving and improve Indoor Air Quality and to research application possibility of foreign hybrid ventilation system. This is a basic research data of developing ventilation system for energy saying and improving indoor quality which that research the function and a feature of the ventilation system which is applied in five domestic skyscrapers over 30 floors, and research application instances and features of foreign hybrid ventilation system.
