In order to determine the One-Drop One-Pulse(ODOP) condition of the pulsed gas metal arc(GMA) welding, the drop detaching phenomenon during the peak time is investigated using the force-displacement model. The drop detaching criterion is established based on the displacement of the pendant drop, and the forces exerted on the drop are calculated using the Modified Force Balance Model(MFBM). The effects of wire melting on the drop size and force are included in the force-displacement model. While the peak current has most significant effects on the drop detaching time, the initial drop mass prior to the peak time also influences drop transfer. The calculated results show good agreements with the experimental data, which implies that the ODOP condition can be predicted using the force-displacement method.
A dynamic force balance model is proposed in this work as an extension of the previous static force balance model to predict metal transfer in arc welding. Dynamics of a pendant drop is modeled as the second order system, which consists of the mass, spring and damper. The spring constant of a spherical drop at equilibrium is derived in the closed-form equation, and the inertia force caused by drop vibration is included in the drop detaching condition. While the inertia force is small in the low current range, it becomes larger than the gravitational force with current increase. The inertia force reaches half of the electromagnetic force at transition current, and has considerable effects on drop detachment. The proposed dynamic force balance model predicts the detaching drop size more accurately than the static force balance model.
With comparison of maximum vertical reaction force and lower limb on drop landing between normal and flat foot group, this study is to provide fundamental data of the prevention of injury and the treatment of exercise which are frequently occurred on flat foot group's drop landing. The surface electrodes were sticked on lateral gastrocnemius muscle, medial gastrocnemius muscle, tibialis anterior and the drop landing on a force plate of 40cm was performed with a normal group who had no musculoskeletal disease and a flat foot group of 9 people who had feet examinations. Vertical reaction force were significantly statistically different between two groups(p<.001). Muscle activity of lower limbs in all three parts were not statistically different but showed high tendency on average in the flat foot group. The flat foot group had difficulties in diversification of impact burden and high muscle activity. Therefore, it was suggested that muscular strengthening of knee joints and plantar flexions of foot joints which were highly affected in impact absorption will be required.
The purpose of this study was to analysis biomechanics of the lower extremities injury the heights(40cm, 60cm, 80cm) of jump box as performed depth jump motion by 6 females aerobic athletes and 6 non-experience females students. The event of depth jump were set to be drop, landing and jump. The depth jump motions on the force plate were filmed using a digital video cameras, and data were collected through the cinematography and force plate. On the basis of the results analyzed, the conclusions were drawn as follows: 1. The landing time of skill group was shorter than unskill group at 40cm, 60cm drop height during drop-landing-jump phase especially. The landing time of 60cm drop height was significant between two group(p<.05). 2. The peak GRF of sagittal and frontaI direction following drop height improve was variety pattern and the peak vertical force of 40cm drop height was significantly(p<.05). 3. The magnitude of peak passive force was not increase to change the drop height. 4. The peak passive forces was significant at 40cm drop height between two groups(p<.05)
In this paper, the contact force between two colliding bodies is modeled by using Hertz's force-displacement law and nonlinear damping function. In order to verify the appropriateness of the proposed contact force model, the drop type impact test is carried out for different impact velocities and different materials of the impacting body, such as rubber, plastic and steel. In the drop type impact experiment, six photo interrupters in series close to the collision location are installed to measure the velocity before impact more accurately. The characteristics of contact force model are investigated through experiments. The parameters of the contact force model are estimated using the optimization technique. Finally the estimated parameters are used to predict the impact force between two colliding bodies in opening action of the magnetic contactor, a kind of switch mechanism for switching electric circuits.
Impact between fruits and other materials is a major cause of product damage in harvesting and handling systems. The oriental pears are more susceptible to bruising than other fruits such as European pears and apples, and are required more careful handling. The interest in the handling of the pears for the processing systems has raised the question of the allowable drop height to which pears can be dropped without causing objectionable damage. Drop tests on pears were conducted using an impact device developed by authors to estimate the allowable drop height without bruising. The impact device was constructed to hold in a selected orientation and to release a fruit by vacuum for dropping on to a force transducer. The drop height was adjustable for zero to 60 cm to achieve the desired distance between the bottom of the fruits and the top of the impact force transducer. The transducer was secured to 150 kg$\sub$f/ concrete block. The transducer signal was sampled every 0.17 ms with a strain gage measurement board in the micro computer where it was digitaly stored for later analysis. The selected sample fruit was Niitaka cultivar of pears which is one of the most promising fruit for export in Korea. The pears were harvested during the 1998 harvest season from an orchard in Daejeon. The sample fruit was selected from two groups which were stored for 3 months and 5 months respectively by the method of current commercial practice. The pears were allowed to stabilize at environmental condition(18$^{\circ}C$, 65% rh) of the experimental room. One hundred fifty six pears were tested from the heights of 5, 7.5. 10 and 12.5 cm while measurement were made of impact peak force, contact time, time to peak force, dwell time, pear diameter and mass. The bioyield strength and modulus of elasticity were measured using UTM immediately after each drop test. The allowable drop height was estimated on the base of bioyield strength of the pears in two ways. One was assumed the peak force during impact test increasing linearly with time, and the other was based on the actual drop test results. The computer program was developed for measuring the impact characteristics of the pears and analyzing the data obtained in the study. The peak force increased while contact times decreased with increasing drop height and contact times of the sample from the hard tissue group. The allowable drop height increased with increasing bioyield strength and contact times, and also varied with Poisson\`s ratio, mass and equilibrium radius of the pears. The allowable drop height calculated by a theoretical method was in the range from 1 to 4 cm, meanwhile, the estimated drop height considering the result of the impact test was in the range from 1 to 6 cm. Since the physical properties of fruits affected significantly the allowable drop height, the physical properties of the fruits should be considered when estimating the allowable drop height.
The main object of this study was to investigate experimentally the characteristics of electrostatic cyclone-bag filter with upper tangential inlet in order to overcome the low collection efficiency for the submicron particle and high pressure drop which were main problems of general fabric bag filters. The experiment was carried out for the analysis of collection efficiency and pressure drop of electrostatic cyclone-bag filter comparing to those of fabric bag filter with various experimental parameters such as the inlet velocity(filtration velocity) and applied voltage etc. In the results the upper tangential inlet type showed higher collection efficiency for submicron particles below 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter than that of center inlet and over 99.9% for overall collection efficiency. Pressure drop reduction ratios were shown as 40-50% for the applied voltage 0kV by centrifugal force and 70-90% for 20k V by the centrifuga and electrostatic force with the tangential inlet velocity (12-21m/s)
The static force balance model (SFBM) has been used to analyze drop transfer in gas metal arc welding. Although the SFBM is capable of predicting the detaching drop size in the globular mode with reasonable accuracy, discrepancy between the calculated and experimental results increases with current. In order to reduce discrepancy, the SFBM is modified by considering the momentum of the molten metal flow, which is generated by the pinch pressure. The momentum increases with smaller drop size and becomes compatible to the electromagnetic force. The modified force balance model (MFBM) predicts the experimental results more accurately, and extends its application to the projected mode.
The key process used in nuclear industries for the management of radiotoxicity associated with spent fuel in a closed fuel cycle is solvent extraction. An understanding of hydrodynamics and mass transfer is of primary importance for the design of mass transfer equipment used in solvent extraction processes. Understanding the interfacial phenomenon and the associated hydrodynamics of the liquid drops is essential for model-based design of mass transfer devices. In this work, the phenomenon of drop formation at the tip of a nozzle submerged in quiescent immiscible liquid phase is revisited. Previously reported force balance based models and empirical correlations are analyzed. Experiments are carried out to capture the process of drop formation using high-speed imaging technique. The images are digitally processed to measure the average drop diameter. A correlation based on the force balance model is proposed to estimate drop diameter and jet length. The average drop diameter obtained from the proposed model is in good agreement with experimental data with an average error of 6.3%. The developed model is applicable in both the necking as well as jetting regime and is validated for liquid-liquid systems having low, moderate and high interfacial tension.
The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in kinematic and kinetic parameters of the ankle and knee joint according to three landing direction(central, left, right). Fifteen collegiate male athletes(age: $22.7{\pm}3.5$ years, height: $174.9{\pm}7.1\;cm$, weight: $69.4{\pm}6.7\;kg$) with the right leg as dominant were chosen. The subjects performed series of drop landings in three directions. In terms of the three different landing directions, plantar flexion was the greatest during the central drop landings. For each initial contact of the landing direction, plantar flexion of the ankle was greatest at the central drop landing, inversion of the ankle was greatest at the right landing and valgus of the knee was greatest at the left drop landing. Regarding the peak force, the greatest was at the 1st peak force during the central drop landing. For the time-span of the 2nd peak force and the 2-1 peak force, both right sides resulted as the greatest. Therefore, with the appropriate training in landing techniques and developing neuromuscular training for proprioception by taking the injury mechanisms on ankle and knee during drop landings into account, it will assist in preventing such injuries.
