Four feeds, three concentrates (rice bran, soybean meal and flaked corn) and one forage (corn silage) were incubated in four ruminally fistulated Holstein steers over three one week periods in a 3${\times}$4 incomplete latin square design where steers served as blocks and feeds as treatment. The objectives of the study were to investigate in situ DM, N and P degradability characteristics of feeds in order to assess availability of these nutrients by ruminants. In each period, all feeds were incubated in quadruplets (corn silage in triplicates) in the rumen of each steer in a reverse order for 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24 and 48 h. The DM 'a' fraction was higher and lower (p<0.001) in corn silage and rice bran respectively. Although corn silage contained the lowest (p<0.01) DM 'b' fraction, flaked corn contained the highest. Rate of DM degradation of flaked corn and corn silage were half (p<0.05) of the rate of DM degradation of either rice bran or soybean meal. Potential or effective DM degradability (p<0.05 to 0.001) at various passage rates were the lowest for rice bran and the highest for soybean meal. Corn silage N 'a' and 'b' was the highest and lowest, respectively (p<0.01). N 'c' of corn silage and rice bran was higher (p<0.001) than other feeds. Potential N degradability was the lowest in flaked corn (p<0.05). P 'a' was high (p<0.01) for corn silage and rice bran. P 'b' fraction was very high (p<0.001) in soybean meal but was absent in corn silage. Availability of DM (p<0.01 or 0.001), N (p<0.001) and P (p<0.05) differed between feeds at various passage rates except P availability at k=0.02 per h (p>0.05). The results demonstrate that the availability of DM, N and P by ruminants depends on feed as well as categories of animal.
In order to supply 85% of total organic feed in ruminants and 80% in non-ruminants for organic animal production, nitrogen fixation ability of legume should be used in domestic roughages production. 50% of Europe organic farmer use intercropping legume in as green manure. This article is dealing with amount of biologically fixed nitrogen used by legumes and methods for estimating the transfer of biologically fixed N in rotation and separating the N benefit into fixed N and non-fixed N components are reviewed. Available data indicate that transfer amount of N to non legumes was from 50∼9.6(kg/ha) in legume-cereal rotations and proportion of legume N varied with seasons, 90% in summer, 50% in autumn. The important point in cropping system for legumes have to be included for organic forage production 6 year rotation is based on pasture system of 3 year pasture + 2 year annual(com, sudangrass), again pasture. Rye, barly and Italian ryegrass+legumes(vetch, crimson and pea) can be one of option in spring, com, soybean, sudangrass and Japanese bamyard millet would be seeded after spring harvest in the field. Farmer can make good use of rice paddy field as forge production potential area after harvesting rice. Italian, burly and rye+vetch and crimsonclover may be grown in autumn or spring time at the rice field.
Relation between spatial variation of soil salinity and emergence of five upland crops such as sudan grass, sesbania, barnyard grass, corn and soybean was studied in the three reclaimed lands of Korea during two years from 2007 to 2008. Although soil salinity is vary high at seeding season, desalting treatment by three days-flooding before seeding, reach at favorable level lower than $6dS\;m^{-1}$ of soil salinity for emergence of soiling and forage crops and then plant number emerged(No. $m^{-2}$) was 55~149 for sudan grass, 118~266 for barnyard grass, 46~115 for sesbania, 3~11 for corn and 6~19 for soybean in 2007. However plant number emerged under no desalting treatment varies place by place because of soil salinity difference in 2008. Plant number emerged after seeding according to soil salinity was well expressed as logarithmic function, and sharply decrease with increase of soil salinity. It is accordingly concluded that desalting treatment of flooding before seeding of upland crops is essential for good emergence in the newly reclaimed land from tidal flat.

A comparative analysis of farm incomes was performed from the new composition system of crops, such as feed crops, including soybeans, Italian ryegrass, soybean-potatoes, and soybean-barley planted in rice fields. Through this analysis, the suggested implications were derived, and the technological solutions were determined. The profitability of the composition of soybean-Italian ryegrass showed that the soybeans yield was 325kg/10a, and the sale price was ₩3,962/kg, leading to a gross revenue of ₩1,288,000/10a. The yield of Italian ryegrass was 1,584kg/10a with a sale price of ₩125/kg, showing a gross revenue of ₩198,000/10a. The net income of soybeans was ₩284,000/10a, which means a net income rate of 22.1%, whereas the net income of Italian ryegrass was -₩30,000/10a. The composition of soybeans-potatoes and soybeans-barley showed a gross revenue of ₩930,000/10a and ₩375,000/10a, respectively. The crop composition types have been developed for the Income Type, Production Type of Forage, Improvement Type of Food Self-Sufficiency, and Corresponding Type to Climate Change. On the other hand, regional types have not been developed sufficiently. In addition, various selections of alternative crops and the establishment of crop composition congruent to the specific regions should be developed systematically in terms of the production technology. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the technological establishment of the crop composition through continuous related studies with the mid-to-long term objectives of land utilization and grain self-sufficiency rates.
A study was conducted to estimate nutritive value of forage sources used in deer diets. Bags containing feedstuffs were incubated four times for periods up to 72 hours in two chemostats filled with ruminal fluid from deer or cattle. Parameters estimated were water-soluble and $65{\mu}m$ filterable plus insoluble digestible fractions(No. = 4) and extent of disappearance(No. = 8) of feed neutral detergent fiber(NDF). Among tested feeds, the ranking of values of these parameters were soybean hulls > alfalfa pellets > corn cobs or rice straw > cottonseed hulls or rice hulls > sawdust, indicating that soybean hulls and alfalfa pellets were more fermentable than other agricultural residues. It is possible to utilize variability among tested feeds of fraction, disappearance rate and (or) extent of DM and NDF when these feeds are used as roughage sources in deer diets.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of partial replacement of corn grain and soybean meal with agricultural by-product feeds on in vitro rumen fermentation characteristics and optimum levels of mixing ratio. The agricultural by-products to examine the effectiveness of the partial replacement of concentrate were wheat bran, corn gluten feed, bakery waste, soybean curd, rice bran, green kernel rice, soybean hull, distillers' grain, and mushroom substrate. In the first experiment, in vitro ruminal fermentation characteristics of feedstuffs were evaluated at 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours after incubation. In the second experiment, fermentation characteristics were investigated with green kernel rice and soybean curd which replaced corn grain or soybean meal. Feed were formulated with 40% corn grain + 20% soybean meal (T1), 40% corn grain + 17.5% soybean meal + 2.5% soybean curd (T2), 25% corn grain + 20% soybean meal + 15% green kernel rice (T3), and 30% corn grain + 15% soybean meal + 6% green kernel rice + 9% soybean curd (T4), respectively, with forage source of 10% alfalfa hay, 20% timothy hay, and 10% corn silage as fed-basis. In 24 and 48 hour cultivations, T4 showed significantly lower pH compared to T1, whereas in 3 and 24 hour cultivations, T4 showed significantly higher DM degradation compared to T1. In addition, the gas production of T3 was also higher than T1 (p<0.05). Overall results of the present experiments indicated that green kernel rice and soybean curd as agricultural by-products have the possibility of partial replacements of corn grain and soybean meal.

The soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is one of the most important crop resources worldwide as food and forage. It is also important and valuable that to hold crop resources to have high genetic diversities. Recently, a core collection has been constructed in many plants to preserve the genetic resources of various plants. A core collection is small population to represent the genetic diversity of the total collection, and is of strategic importance as they allow the use of a small part of a germplasm collection that is representative of the total collection. Here, we developed the core collection consisting of 816 accessions by using approximately 180,000 (180K) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) developed in previous study. In addition, we performed genetic diversity and population structure analysis to construct the core collection from entire 4,392 collections. there were excluded sample call rates less than 93% and duplicated samples more than 99.9% according to genotype analysis using 180K SNPs from entire collections. Furthermore, we were also excluded natural hybrid resources which Glycine max and Glycine soja are mixed in half through population structure analysis. As a result, we are constructed the core collection of genetic diversity that reflects 99% of the entire collections, including 430 cultivated soybeans (Glycine max) and 386 wild soybeans (Glycine soja). The core collection developed in this study should be to provide useful materials for both soybean breeding programs and genome-wide association studies.

The objective of this study was to determine how feeding forage and concentrate separately (SF) or as a total mixed ration (TMR) affects enteric methane production of cattle. Six Holstein steers ($203{\pm}22.5kg$) were used in a $2{\times}3$ changeover design experiment. Experimental diets (TMR and SF) consisted of compound feed, timothy hay and soybean curd residue in a ratio of 40:48:12, respectively, and diets were fed at 10% of metabolic body weight, on an as-fed basis. There were no differences in dry matter intake and enteric methane production (g/d) between SF and TMR but the methane conversion rate (methane energy/GE intake) of TMR was significantly higher (p=0.05) than that of SF. The mean methane emission factor (kg/head/year) and conversion rate of the two treatments were 21.4 and 0.05, respectively. There was a strong relationship between metabolic body weight and enteric methane production (p<0.001). At the present time, further studies may be necessary in order to establish the effects of TMR and SF on enteric methane production.

This experiment was carried out to determine voluntary intake according to growth stage of sorghum $\times$ sudangrass hybrid in mono and intercropping. The results obtained from these experiments are as follows; Crude protein content of intercropping cultivation(sorghum $\times$ sudangrass hybrid + soybean) was higher than monocropping(sorghum $\times$ sudangrass hybrid), while ADF content was not different. Intake rates of leaf and stem showed highly at the intercropping comparing with monocropping(180cm~milk stage), but there was no difference at dough and yellow stage. Also, voluntary intake of fresh and dry matter showed same tendency. Voluntary intake of dry matter was the highest value of $98.4g/kg^{0.75}$ at milk stage treatment of intercropping. The intakes of crude protein were 9.6, 8.5, 7.2 and $7.2g/kg^{0.75}$ at 180cm, 250cm, boot stage and milk stage of intercropping treatment, respectively. These were higher than those for monocropping treatment. As mentioned above the results, intercropping cultivation could be recommended as increasing method of sorghum $\times$ sudangrass hybrid utilization when intake of dry matter and crude protein were considered.
