  • Food security will be affected by climate change worldwide, particularly in the developing world, where the most important food products originate from plants. Plants are often exposed to environmental stresses that may affect their growth, development, yield, and food quality. Auxin is a hormone that plays a critical role in improving plants' tolerance of environmental conditions. Auxin controls the expression of many stress-responsive genes in plants by interacting with specific cis-regulatory elements called auxin-responsive elements (AuxREs). In this work, we performed an in silico prediction of AuxREs in promoters of five auxin-responsive genes in Zea mays. We applied a data fusion approach based on the combined use of Dempster-Shafer evidence theory and fuzzy sets. Auxin has a direct impact on cell membrane proteins. The short-term auxin response may be represented by the regulation of transmembrane gene expression. The detection of an AuxRE in the promoter of prolyl oligopeptidase (POP) in Z. mays and the 3-fold overexpression of this gene under auxin treatment for 30 min indicated the role of POP in maize auxin response. POP is regulated by auxin to perform stress adaptation. In addition, the detection of two AuxRE TGTCTC motifs in the upstream sequence of the bx1 gene suggests that bx1 can be regulated by auxin. Auxin may also be involved in the regulation of dehydration-responsive element-binding and some members of the protein kinase superfamily.

  • The effect of guanethidine on feeding behavior was investigated in the chicken. Graded levels of chronically administered guanethidine, an adrenergic neurone blocker, at 0, 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight, decreased body weight gain and food intake in a dose dependent manner. The effect of acute guanethidine administration on crop emptying rate of the chicken was also investigated. The highest level (10 mg i.v./kg body weight) of guanethidine significantly delayed crop emptying compared with the control. These results suggest that the sympathetic nervous system in the chicken is an important factor for the regulation of feeding behavior associated with food passage from the crop.

  • Drug excipients are material used in the formulation of pharmacologically active drugs. They have a variety of roles including dilutents/fillers/bulking agents, binders/adhesives, propellant, disintegrants, lubricants/dlidants, colors, flavors, coating agents, polising agents, fragrance, sweeteening agent, polymers and waxes. Excipient should be inert or inactive and does not interfere with the test. Nowadays within industry there has been a recent surge of interest in novel excipient for novel dosage forms. The purpose of the review is to introduce the administration systems of drug excipient about kinds, matters to be attended to change of excipients.

  • Food labelling is the primary means of communication between the producer and purchaser and plays an important role in consumer's choice of food. Food labelling applying to livestock products, such as meat products (ham, sausage etc.), milk products(milk, fermented milk, butter and cheese etc.) and egg Products is regulated by 'Livestock Products Labelling Standard', National Veterinary Research & Quarantine Service (NVRQS) Notification. This study presents the principles of Korean milk products labelling provision and its recent revision to prevent consumer from misunderstanding and facilitate fair trade practices in market and also keep consistencies with international and relative national regulations. This study also suggests milk products labelling policy direction in the future.

  • We investigated the unequivalence of Food Sanitation law, School Foodservice law and recent reports studied about hazard analysis critical control point(HACCP) system. We also found out that cook's duties were expressed several times in the standard job classification in Korea national statistical office based by the international labor organization(ILO) since 1963, but not ever in the Food Sanitation law and School Foodservice law. Based on these investigations We propose clear expression of cook's duties in the Food Sanitation law and School Foodservice law, and enactment of regulation or law of Cook to reduce any possible food poisonings. However these proposals need to be studied and improved in many different ways for the revision and enactment of the law of cook.

  • Obesity is a chronic disease that is increasing in prevalence and that poses a serious risk for the hypertension, osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes mellitus and certains forms of cancer. This study was performed to develop of obesity animal model and to assess the pharmacological assay for the rats of 8 weeks or 4 days after ovariectomization treated with estradiol for 8 weeks on the body weight. fat weight and food intake. The body weight, fat weight and food intake increased in the ovriectomized rats. In the rat of 8 weeks after ovariectomization treated with estradiol (250 mg/100 g) 8 weeks, the body weight decreased significantly (p<0.05). In the rats of 4 days after ovariectomization treated with estradiol 8 weeks, the body weight decreased significantly (p<0.05). These results suggest that estrogen plays a role in regulation body weight response to food intake and fat weight.

  • Astaxanthin is one of many carotenoids present in marine animals, vegetables and fruits. Since carotenoids are known to exert antioxidant actions, we explored to determine if astaxnathin could have such regulatory actions in normal-and $CCl_4$-treated rat liver. Astaxanthin treatment caused a slight increase in $\alpha$-tocopherol levels in the control rat liver. Glucose-6-phosphatase activity was significantly increased by astaxanthin in a dose-dependent manner and its activity decreased in response to $CCl_4$treatment was slightly inhibited by astaxanthin. These results suggest that astaxanthin could protect liver damages induced by $CCl_4$via inhibiting lipid peroxidation and it may have a potential to activate the anti-oxidant system of normal liver by stimulating $\alpha$-tocopherol production.

  • Vitamin D insufficiency is associated with obesity and its related metabolic diseases. Adipose tissues store and metabolize vitamin D and expression levels of vitamin D metabolizing enzymes are known to be altered in obesity. Sequestration of vitamin D in large amount of adipose tissues and low vitamin D metabolism may contribute to the vitamin D inadequacy in obesity. Vitamin D receptor is expressed in adipose tissues and vitamin D regulates multiple aspects of adipose biology including adipogenesis as well as metabolic and endocrine function of adipose tissues that can contribute to the high risk of metabolic diseases in vitamin D insufficiency. We will review current understanding of vitamin D regulation of adipose biology focusing on vitamin D modulation of adiposity and adipose tissue functions as well as the molecular mechanisms through which vitamin D regulates adipose biology. The effects of supplementation or maintenance of vitamin D on obesity and metabolic diseases are also discussed.

  • This study initiates from the question of whether current advertising regulations are appropriate to be applied to the market. It confirms the relationship between misleading online advertisements of weight-loss food and consumer damages. This study argues that it is necessary to enforce monitoring and regulating (strengthening monitoring) for situations where misleading advertisements are exposed in the market with subsequent consumer damages. However, deregulation is needed for advertisements exposed in the name of misleading advertisements but with no consumer damages. In conclusion, the regulations of current weight loss foods are properly established $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ the market situation. However, misleading advertisements are prevalent for all regulated types: Type I (product quality and effect), Type II (endorsement and warranty), Type III (ways to use and safety), Type IV (comparison and superiority), and Type V (company information). Promotion targeting businesses, market monitoring and control are necessary to ensure that advertising regulations (which have existed only as an institution) can be appropriately applied. It is also confirmed that 'comparison advertising' (applicable to Type IV where consumer damages were not shown compared to other regulations) does not have an actual effect as a consumer protection regulation that should be considered in regulation revisions. Consumers also did not recognize Type III and V in the purchasing stage while consumer damages were demonstrated; consequently, this implies that consumers need to check and become attentive to these types.
