농업 및 농촌 개발에서의 환경교육 (Environmental Education in Agricultural and Rural Development)

  • The objectives of the study were to. 1) explain the seriousness of environmental problems and the importance of environmental education in rural development , and 2) explore more effective and efficient ways of environmental education for agriculture and rural development in Korea. The world has rapidly changed and concepts such as clientele -centered, efficiency, and globalization are flowing under this change. Agriculture or rural development is not an exception. In order for agriculture as an occupation and rural communities to have competitiveness in efficiency and attractiveness, it is important to develop and execute a well-planned program for agriculture and rural development. Otherwise, farmers and rural inhabitants will continue to leave the agriculture and rural areas. Frequent recent reports of newspapers on nit and water pollution, including nutrients and pesticides have brought attention to the seriousness of environmental problems in Korea. Environmental concerns should consider in planning and executing the rural development program. People want to get contamination-free foods, water and fresh air. They can and are willing to pay their money for high quality food, water and a better living environment, as their incomes have been increasing, Agriculture and rural communities may have competitiveness in these aspects. It is irony that environmental concerns makes the possibility of changes in agriculture and rural development in Korea. Environmental education will have an increasingly important role in agriculture and rural development. Environmental problems relate to the human behavior in various aspects. Many environmental problems are mainly rooted to people's ignorance and spending-habits, and lack of technology related to environment. These human behaviors are the focus that environmental education should teach and change. Environmental education has been carried out through various subjects in school education in Korea, but "Environment" in middle school and "Environmental Science" in high school were separated as a regular subject from 1996. Environmental education still has a lot of room for development from a theoretical frame work. Environmental education should be carried out as action-oriented, student-centered programs. Various teaching materials, programs and proper supporting budget should be developed so that environmental education fulfills its necessary role well in agriculture and rural development. A textbook about the environment alone will not guarantee a high quality environmental education.

연령별 체질량지수 3백분위수 미만을 희망하는 여고생의 식습관과 심리적 상태 (Wanting Extremely Low BMI May be Associated with Higher Depression and Undesirable Dietary Habits in High School Girls Who were Not Overweight)

  • The widespread pursuit for the thin physique may have detrimental impact on the wellbeing of the young generation, especially females. This study aimed to determine the effect of wanting very low body weight on dietary habits and psychological factors of female adolescents. Participants were 619 girls from 5 high schools in Kyeonggi, Korea. Information on dietary behaviors, psychological factors as well as current heights and weights and the desired weight for current height were obtained by questionnaire. Of total subjects, 38.1%, 35.5%, and 26.5% desired weights corresponding to normal (10~85 percentile), low (3~10 percentile) and very low BMI (< 3 percentile), respectively. The subjects who wanted to be very low weight had the average BMI of 18.57 kg/m2, which was significantly lower than $21.21kg/m^2$ of those who wanted to be normal weight (p < 0.001). The subjects who desired very low weight had significantly higher scores for depression symptoms (p < 0.05), while there were no differences in obsession to lose weight and obesity stress. Moreover, more subjects in this group had undesirable dietary habits such as eating fast foods more than weekly (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that the desire for extreme thinness may lead female adolescents to have not only unreasonably similar obesity stress and obsession to lose weight but also higher depression symptoms, along with undesirable dietary habits. The findings suggest the potential harm from excessive weight concerns of female adolescents; thus efforts to teach this group about healthy weights are urgently needed.

Effect of Individual, Group or ESF Housing in Pregnancy and Individual or Group Housing in Lactation on Sow Behavior

  • To evaluate the effect of different housing systems on sow behavior, 80 gilts were randomly allocated at puberty to four treatments: i) sow stall in gestation followed by farrowing crate (SC), ii) group housing with individual feeding in gestation followed by farrowing crate (GC), iii) ESF (Electronic Sow Feeding) system in gestation followed by farrowing crate (EC), and iv) ESF system followed by group farrowing pen (EG). Behavioral observations were carried out on a total of 16 animals per treatment at the following stages: first day of allocation to housing treatment, day of service, 80 days after service, 109 days after service on entry to farrowing accommodation, 24 h before farrowing, day of farrowing, 14, 27 and 28 days after farrowing, at weaning. On each occasion, individual animals were observed for a 24 period with one minute time sampling. There were significant differences (p<0.001) between stages of the reproductive cycle for all the behavior patterns in all treatments. On the first day in experimental housing treatments, sows spent more time rooting and dog-sitting. Activity and investigatory behavior decreased as pregnancy progressed. An activity peak was apparent just before farrowing, followed by a high level of inactivity on the day of farrowing. Time spent active, eating and drinking increased as lactation progressed, and greatest activity and locomotion was seen immediately following weaning. There were significant differences between housing treatments (p<0.01) for standing, moving, eating, drinking, dog-sitting and lying. During pregnancy SC sows spent more time standing, rooting, drinking and dog sitting, while EC sows spent less time rooting and drinking and more time lying. During lactation, GC sows spent more time standing, moving and eating, less time dog sitting and lateral lying. Nursing frequency was reduced in GC sows (p<0.001). The maternal and piglet behaviors were influenced strongly by environment during lactation. However, it was also shown that previous housing history can influence the maternal behavior in the pre-farrowing stage and during early lactation.

Drinking behaviors by stress level in Korean university students

  • The purposes of this study are to estimate the stress level of university students, and to verify the relationships between stress level and drinking behavior. A questionnaire survey was administered to 430 university students in the Gangwon area in Korea from November 5 to November 28, 2008, and data from 391 students were used for the final statistical analysis. The most stressful factor was "Worry about academic achievements" (2.86 by Likert-type 4 point scale). The subjects were divided into two groups, a low stress group (${\leq}65.0$) and a high stress group (${\geq}66.0$), by the mean value (65.1) and median value (66.0) of the stress levels. The drinking frequency was not different between the two stress groups, but the amount of alcohol consumption was significantly different ($P$ < 0.05). The portion of students reporting drinking "7 glasses or over" was higher in the lower stress group than in the higher stress group. In addition, factor 6, "Lack of learning ability", was negatively correlated with drinking frequency and the amount of alcohol consumption ($P$ < 0.05), and factor 3, "Worry about academic achievements", was negatively correlated with the amount of drinking ($P$ < 0.05). The major motive for drinking was "When overjoyed or there is something to celebrate" (2.62), and the main expected effect of drinking was "Drinking enables me to get together with people and shape my sociability" (2.73). The higher stress group showed significantly higher scores on several items in the categories of motives ($P$ < 0.01), negative experience ($P$ < 0.05), and expected effects ($P$ < 0.05) of drinking than the lower stress group. Our results imply that university students at the lower stress level may drink more from social motives in positive drinking environments, while those at the higher stress level may have more problematic-drinking despite their smaller amount of alcohol consumption.

한국 성인의 식생활 지침 실천도와 이상지혈증의 관련성 (Association between Compliance with Dietary Guidelines and Dyslipidemia among Koreans)

  • While metabolic syndrome(MS) is rapidly expanding and dietary pattern, the known risk factor of MS, goes through heavy transition to western diet, not many researches have been done on the association between dyslipidemia and dietary factors in Korean adults. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between compliance with dietary guidelines and dyslipidemia among Koreans. The subjects of 399 adults who visited health examination center were classified into dyslipidemia(n=180) and control(n=219). Diagnosis of dyslipidemia was based on NCEP-ATPIII criteria(triglyceride>=150mg/d, HDL-C<50mg/dl for male, HDL-C<40mg/dl for female). A questionnaire based interview was done to collect information on compliance with dietary guidelines, general characteristics and health related behaviors. Anthropometric variables were measured during the survey. Mean compliance score of dietary guideline was significantly lower in dyslipidemia group than in control. It was associated negatively with waist circumference and positively with serum HDL-cholesterol(p<0.05). Risks of dyslipidemia were significantly decreased in the group with highest dietary guideline score, high serum triglyceride levels(OR=0.484, 95% CI=0.268-0.875), abdominal obesity(OR=0.296, 95% CI=0.159-0.553), and dyslipidemia(OR=0.481, 95% CI=0.266-0.869). These results indicated that increasing compliance with dietary guidelines could be an effective strategy to lower the risk of dyslipidemia among Koreans.

해외프로그램 리메이킹 과정에서 나타나는 콘텐츠 변화에 대한 연구 (Foreign TV Content Analysis: Adaptation, Transformation and Koreanization)

  • 본 논문에서는 한국의 대표적인 상업채널인 케이블 방송국에서 방영된 포맷 프로그램에 대한 분석을 통해, 포맷프로그램의 현지화과정에서 한국적 가치가 어떻게 발현되고 있는지, 프로그램 제작에 영향을 미치는 또 다른 요인은 없었는지 등에 대해 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위하여 2014년 시즌 3까지 방영하였으며, 연착륙에 성공하였다고 평가되는 프로그램인 '마스터셰프 코리아' (Master Chef KOREA, '마셰코')의 각 에피소드를 '마스터셰프 USA'와 비교 분석하였다. 사례분석을 통해 포맷 프로그램의 성공요인은 철저한 한국화에 있었다는 점을 확인하였으며, 제작자가 처한 미디어 환경에 따라서 프로그램에서 독특한 특징이 나타난다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 또한 현지화 및 지역화에 성공한 포맷 프로그램이 살아남는다는 기존의 논의는 여전히 유효한 분석틀이나, 포맷 프로그램이 한국화 되는 과정에서 공공성이 강화되고 프로그램에 대한 직간접적 규제가 강화되는 측면이 있다는 기존의 연구결과는 좀 더 비판적으로 접근할 필요가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

산업체 급식 피급식자들의 저나트륨식 인식 및 실천현황과 만족도 (Status of Recognition, Effort, and Satisfaction of Customers on Low-Sodium Diet in Industry Foodservice)

  • This study surveyed the status of recognition, effort, and satisfaction of customers on a low-sodium diet in industry foodservice. For recognition related to sodium intake, 34.6% answered 'sure' for awareness of WHO's recommended daily sodium intake. Recognition of healthiness of low-sodium diet scored an average of $3.77{\pm}0.8$. The most frequent dietary effort related to low-sodium diet was 'I leave the broth of soup/stew (23.7%)', and the most common reason for not making an effort related to low-sodium diet was 'I often eat out (25.2%)'. Recognition of saltiness of foodservice meals was $2.84{\pm}0.69$, and the saltiest food was 'kimchi (30.4%)', followed by 'side dish (17.9%)', 'soup/stew (16.8%)', and 'sauce (8.3%)'. Satisfaction of low-sodium foodservice meal was $3.04{\pm}0.71$. Reasons for recognition of saltiness of foodservice meal were mostly 'appropriate' or 'prefer less salty (86%)'. In the analysis of satisfaction of low-sodium foodservice meal according to occupation, satisfaction of 'level of saltiness ($F=5.046^{**}$)' scored an average of $3.18{\pm}0.72$, with the highest satisfaction from 'professionals'. Satisfaction of 'dietary behaviors related to sodium ($F=3.534^{**}$)' scored an average of $3.95{\pm}0.59$, with the highest satisfaction from 'government employees (p<0.01)'. These study results show that despite recognition of the healthiness of a low-sodium diet, efforts toward practicing the diet were less than adequate. Further, 25% felt that foodservice meal was a blend, whereas satisfaction of low-sodium diet was only 19%. Therefore, continuous education and advertisements are necessary in order to raise awareness as well as developing more concrete methods during preparation of meals, such as using a salt meter.

수직 Rayleigh 유동내의 입자 거동 해석 (Analysis of Particles Motion in Vertical Rayleigh Flow)

  • Suspended particles behavior when they go through a vertical riser with heat transfer is of significant concern to system designers and operators in pneumatic transport, various processes such as in chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries. When it comes with the energy system, that knowledge is critical to the reliable design practices of related equipment as heat exchangers, especially in the phase of system scale-up. Without haying a good understanding of the related physics, many scale-up practices based on their pilot plant experience suffer from unexpected behaviors and problems of unstable fluidization typically associated with excessive pressure drop, pressure fluctuation and even unsuccessful particle circulation. In the present study, we try to explain the observed phenomena with related physics, which may help understanding of our unanswered experiences and to provide the designers with more reliable resources for their work. We selected hot exhaust gas with solid particle that goes through a heat exchanger riser as our model to be considered. The effect of temperature change on the gas velocity, thermodynamic properties, and eventually on the particles motion behavior is reviewed along with some heat transfer analyses. The present study presents an optimal riser length at full scale under given conditions, and also defines the theoretical limiting length of the riser. The field data from the numerical analysis was validated against our experimental results.

대장암 관련 건강검진 정보 (Information related to Colorectal cancer screening health checkup)

  • 우리나라 40세 이상 성인들에서 대장암의 건강검진 관계성을 파악하여 이들의 대장암 검진 이행에 영향을 미치는 변수를 확인하고자 수행되었다. 조사도구는 국민건강영양조사 제4기 2차년도 자료를 이용하였다. 주요 변수는 국민건강수준, 건강관련의식 및 행태, 식품 및 영양섭취실태에 대해 12,528명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 대장암검진 대상자인 40세 이상 성인 남, 여 4,703명을 연구대상으로 하였다. 연구결과는 대장암 검진 이행여부와 관련성이 있는 변수로는 성별, 연령, 거주 지역, 건강기능 식품 복용여부, 건강검진 수검여부, 암 과거력 등 이었다. 배우자 유무, 교육수준별, 가구 월 총소득, 민간보험, 규칙적 운동여부에서는 관련성이 없었다. 대장암검진 수검을 높이기 위해서는 무료 암검진 확대실시와 암검진의 간편한 검사법에 대한 체계적이고 효과적인 교육과 홍보가 수행되어야 할 것이다.

은줄팔랑나비(나비목: 팔랑나비과) 성충의 행동특성과 서식지 보전방안 (Behavioral Characteristics of Leptalina unicolor (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) and Conservation Methods for their Habitat)

  • To conserve the population of a hesperiid butterfly, Leptalina unicolor, inhabiting the protected areas of Jaeyaksan, we provide ecological information on their behavior and propose habitat conservation measures, such as the creation of alternative habitats based on comprehensive information. The behavioral study used a method of re-capture after releasing the butterfly with enamel marks on the wings. Adult behaviors were shown in four patterns: flying, settling on a plant, nectar absorption, and water absorption. Both males and females had the highest proportion of flight movement overall; however, males had a slightly higher proportion of flight movement. As for duration, females spent more time settling on plants to select spawning sites, and males seemed to take a longer time for water absorption activities, to absorb minerals needed to form the spermatophore. The average travel distance of butterflies was 27.5 m for females and 46.7 m for males, with daily activity ranges from 11.2 m to 43.8 m, and 21.4 to 57.6 m, respectively. The most important condition to preserve the habitat of Leptalina unicolor is to maintain the community of Miscanthus sinensis, a food plant. Additionally, because this butterfly has a high rate of water absorption activities, wetlands should be maintained.
