Background: In India, cancer accounts for 7.3% of DALY's, 14.3% of mortality with an age-standardized incident rate of 92.4/100,000 in men and 97.4/100,000 in women and yet there are no nationwide screening programs. Materials and Methods: We calculated age-standardized and age-truncated (30-69 years) detection rates for men and women who attended the Indian Cancer Society detection centre, New Delhi from 2011-12. All participants were registered with socio-demographic, medical, family and risk factors history questionnaires, administered clinical examinations to screen for breast, oral, gynecological and other cancers through a comprehensive physical examination and complete blood count. Patients with an abnormal clinical exam or blood result were referred to collaborating institutes for further investigations and follow-up. Results: A total of n=3503 were screened during 2011-12 (47.8% men, 51.6% women and 0.6% children <15 years) with a mean age of 47.8 yrs (${\pm}15.1yrs$); 80.5% were aged 30-69 years and 77.1% had at least a secondary education. Tobacco use was reported by 15.8%, alcohol consumption by 11.9% and family history of cancer by 9.9% of participants. Follow-up of suspicious cases yielded 45 incident cancers (51.1% in men, 48.9% in women), consisting of 55.5% head and neck (72.0% oral), 28.9% breast, 6.7% gynecological and 8.9% other cancer sites. The age-standardized detection rate for all cancer sites was 340.8/100,000 men and 329.8/100,000 women. Conclusions: Cancer screening centres are an effective means of attracting high-risk persons in low-resource settings. Opportunistic screening is one feasible pathway to address the rising cancer burden in urban India through early detection.
Background: The size of the baseplate used in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) tends to be larger than the average size of the glenoid in the Korean population. The mismatch between the sizes of the baseplate and the patient's glenoid may result in improper fixation of the glenoid baseplate. This in turn may lead to the premature loosening of the glenoid component. Thus, we evaluated the short-term results of using a 25-mm baseplate in RTSA. Methods: Seventeen patients with cuff tear arthropathy underwent RTSA with a 25-mm baseplate. The mean age of the patients was 70.1 years, and the mean follow-up period was 14.0 months. We evaluated clinical outcomes preoperatively and postoperatively: the range of shoulder motion, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, and the Korean Shoulder Society (KSS) score. Results: We found that the mean ASES score and KSS improved from 35.0 to 74.4 (p<0.001) and from 46.9 to 71.8 (p<0.001) with RTSA. The mean forward elevation and abduction, external rotation also improved from $78.6^{\circ}$ to $134.3^{\circ}$ (p<0.05) and from $66.6^{\circ}$ to $125.0^{\circ}$ (p<0.05), from $20.2^{\circ}$ to $28.4^{\circ}$ (p=0.43). Postoperative complications were seen in 12% of patients, but neither the loosening of the glenoid baseplate nor inferior scapular notching were observed. Conclusions: In sum, the results of using a 25-mm baseplate in RTSA were similar to those of previous reports. Even though the outcomes are those of a short-term follow-up, neither the loosening of the glenoid baseplate nor the scapular notching were observed.

First, the government's earthquake disaster response capability is found to have a significant effect on disaster follow-up management as well as disaster prevention preparation, which is a factor in disaster management performance. Second, it has been shown that the legal and institutional appropriateness of the earthquake disaster management system has a significant impact on disaster follow-up management as well as disaster prevention preparation, which is a factor of disaster management performance. Conclusion: The important policy implications for improving the operation performance of disaster management could be obtained in preparation for earthquakes in Korea.
Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder follow-up and determine the factors that affect the TMJ bone scan hot spot numerical value (bone scan value), and to compare this value to the diagnosis of patients with temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), their treatment options, and the resolution of their symptoms. Materials and Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed on 24 patients (four males, 20 females) who received TMD treatment in the Section of Dentistry, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (Seongnam, Korea) from 2007 to 2014. An analysis of the significance test and correlation between TMD diagnosis, treatment options, a baseline the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) questionnaire, treatment before and after the clinical examination and subjective progress, and TMJ bone scan value change were completed by using SPSS version 12.0. Result: Although only 14 patients had bony factors that caused TMD, the average pre-treatment bone scan value of the all patients was $4.29{\pm}0.31$, which is higher than the finding for osteoarthritis (3.88), and reduced post-treatment bone scan value was found to be without a statistically significant difference (P=0.056). After the treatments, clinical symptoms in 18 patients disappeared, and six patients did not require additional treatment, although they still displayed subjective symptoms. It was observed that the higher the pre-treatment bone scan value, nonspecific physical symptoms, chronic pain index, characteristic pain intensity, disability score, were, the lower the post-treatment bone scan value was. And this reduced post-treatment bone scan value tendency was not shown with the pre-treatment depression index, but there was not a statistical difference. Conclusion: The post-treatment TMJ bone scan value tended to be insignificantly reduced in the 24 patients whose clinical symptoms were improved (P=0.056). Moreover, the TMJ bone scan value showed no relation to the TMD type or its related symptoms.
Objectives: Distraction osteogenesis has recently evolved a challenging technique to overcome the limitations of conventional augmentation procedures. The aim of this report was to evaluate the clinical result of alveolar distraction osteogenesis for implant installation. Methods: Twenty five patients with alveolar ridge deficiencies were treated with vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis by intraoral device (total 27 devices: 25 extraosseous and 2 intraosseous devices). After the latency periods of 5-7 days, activation of the device was started. The distraction rhythm and rate was 0.75-1.0 mm a day with 2 or 3 times a day. After 3-4 months, dental implants were placed with removing the distractor simultaneously. Results: On average, a vertical gain of $9.8{\pm}3.4\;mm$ was obtained by distraction osteogenesis. Total 84 implants were installed. Average follow up period was $13.5{\pm}7.5$ months. No implant was removed during the follow up period. Three patients showed infection during the distraction osteogenesis. Three devices were broken and 2 devices among them were replaced with new one. Conclusion: Relatively larger amount of alveolar bone augmentation could be obtained with distraction osteogenesis. For the ideal anatomically and functionally ideal regeneration of alveolar bone to install dental implant, the complication of distraction should be controlled.
Background: We evaluated and compared the outcomes of different ossification processes in patients with alveolar cleft in whom correction was performed using endochondral bone graft or intramembranous bone graft. Methods: The patients were divided into two groups: the endochondral bone (iliac bone or rib bone) graft group and the intramembranous bone (mandibular bone) graft group. Medical records and radiologic images of patients who underwent alveolar bone grafting due to alveolar cleft were analyzed retrospectively. Through postoperative and follow-up radiologic images, the height of the interdental bone septum was classified into four types based on the highest point of alveolar ridge. Then, the height of the interdental bone septum and the area of the bone graft were evaluated according to the type of bone graft. In addition, the occurrence of complications and the need for an additional bone graft, the result of postoperative orthodontic treatment, and the eruption of impacted teeth were investigated. Results: Thirty patients were included in this study. There was no significant difference in the change of the interdental bone height and the area of the bone graft according to the type of bone. There was no significant difference in the success rate of the surgery according to the type of bone. One patient underwent an additional bone graft surgery during the follow-up period. Conclusions: The outcomes of alveolar bone grafting were not significantly different according to the type of bone graft. If appropriate to the size of the recipient site, the chin bone is a useful graft material in alveolar cleft, as is the iliac bone.

Purpose: CSF (Cerebrospinal fluid) leakage is the most common complication of neurosurgery. Early management with conservative care or surgery must be followed appropriately due to the increased risk of lethal complications, such as meningitis. We report a case of intractable CSF leakage that occurred after a cerebellar tumor resection, which was treated successfully. Methods: A 53-year old male consulted our department for continuous CSF leakage for 3 months after having received conservative care and lumbar drainage. CSF collection was observed in the dead space of the posterior fossa after a cerebellar tumor resection and postoperative radiotherapy. Using a free latissimus dorsi muscle flap, the dead space within the skull was filled and the defects were covered successfully. Results: At 6 weeks after surgery, the follow-up MRI and CT revealed proper coverage and filling in the area where cerebellar tumor had been removed. No CSF leakage was observed at the postoperative 3 month follow-up. Conclusion: Recurrent CSF leakage was treated after cerebellar tumor resection with a relatively satisfactory result. In terms of the patient's treatment, much better results can be achieved by performing dead space filling using a flap with a sufficient size, in addition to coverage of the defects of the dura.

Purpose: To analyze the clinical and radiological results of the operative treatment in the avulsion fracture on the base of the fifth metatarsal. Materials and Methods: We studied retrospectively, 11 patients of avulsion fracture on the base of the fifth metatarsal operated and followed over 1 year, from February 2000 to May 2002. There were eight men and three women and the average age was 39 years old. The mean follow up period was 14 months. Ten cases were slip-down and one case was fall from a height injuries. We used the modified Foot Score by Wiener for the clinical evaluation, and analyzed the time of union and state of reduction radiologically. Results: In clinical results, we had ten excellent and one good cases by the modified Foot Score at last follow-up. In radiologic results, the complete bony union was achieved in all cases and the duration of the bony union was 37 days in average. Conclusion: We had good result for the avulsion fractures on the base of the fifth metatarsal treated by the operation. This study shows the operation was recommended for the moderate and severe displacement of the avulsion fractures on the base of the fifth metatarsal.
Purpose: Tongue cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the oral cavity and the ultimate goal in treatment of the cancer is not only complete excision and meticulous closure of the wound, but also, reconstruction of a demensional and functional tongue. Our study focuses on various factors, such as defect size, extent of tumor, age, application of mandibulectomy or radiotherapy, and their influences on postoperative speech and swallowing function. Methods: Our study was based on 59 patients who underwent tongue cancer operation and reconstruction of the tongue. Speech and swallowing were evaluated according to categories documented by Sultan and Teichgraeber. Patients were classified into 3 groups as partial glossectomy, hemiglossectomy and total glossectomy groups for evaluation. The average age of the patients were 51, and the mean follow-up period was 4 years 2 months. Results: The partial glossectomy group showed statistically relevant results for speech articulation and swallowing abilities compared to the total glossectomy group. In cases of defects involving the mouth floor, the group showed decreased results compared to the group without mouth floor involvement. Increased age showed decreased postoperative results with statistical significance, while mandibulectomy and radiotherapy revealed no statistically significant data. Analysis according to TNM staging resulted in decreased functional result with advanced staging without statistical significance. Conclusion: To summarize the factors influencing the functional outcome in tongue reconstruction, younger patients and early stage cancer with minimal surgical extent revealed more satisfying results while mandibulectomy and radiation did not have influence on our analysis. Addition of various influencing factors and studies with longer follow up periods on our patient groups may provide effective data for more satisfying functional outcomes in the future.

Primary leiomyosarcomas are rare tumors of the lungs. No typical roentgenographic findings of unusual complex of symptoms distinguish this tumor. The most common therapy is surgical resection. Prognosis and significant survivorship are related to the size, grade, metastasis of the lesion. A 25-year-old female patient with chest pain and cough was admitted. In chest X-ray and CT scan, there was a pulmonary nodule in left upper lung field, She was taken a percutaneous needle aspiration biopsy. The result was a spindle cell tumor. Left upper lobe lobectomy was done, and pathologic diagnosis was a low grade leiomyosarcoma arising from left bronchus. During 5 years of follow-up period, she has not shown any metastasis or local recurrence.
