  • These days, protecting location privacy has become essential and really challenging, especially protecting it from smart applications and services that rely on Location-Based Services (LBS). As the technology and the services that are based on it are developed, the capability and the experience of the attackers are increased. Therefore, the traditional protection ways cannot be enough and are unable to fully ensure and preserve privacy. Previously, a hybrid approach to privacy has been introduced. It used an obfuscation technique, called Double-Obfuscation Approach (DOA), to improve the privacy level. However, this approach has some weaknesses. The most important ones are the fog nodes that have been overloaded due to the number of communications. It is also unable to prevent the Tracking and Identification attacks in the Mix-Zone technique. For these reasons, this paper introduces a developed and enhanced approach, called Multi-Obfuscation Approach (MOA that mainly depends on the communication between neighboring fog nodes to overcome the drawbacks of the previous approach. As a result, this will increase the resistance to new kinds of attacks and enhance processing. Meanwhile, this approach will increase the level of the users' privacy and their locations protection. To do so, a big enough memory is needed on the users' sides, which already is available these days on their devices. The simulation and the comparison prove that the new approach (MOA) exceeds the DOA in many Standards for privacy protection approaches.

  • Seasonal threshold values for fog detection over the ten airport areas within the Korean Peninsula have been derived from the data of polar-orbit Aqua/Terra MODIS and geostationary GOES-9 during a two years. The values are obtained from reflectance at $0.65{\mu}m\;(R_{0.65})$ and the difference in brightness temperature between $3.7{\mu}m\;and\;11{\mu}m\;(T_{3.7-11})$. In order to examine the discrepancy between the threshold values of two kinds of satellites, the following four parameters have been analyzed under the condition of daytime/nighttime and fog/clear-sky, utilizing their simultaneous observations over the Seoul metropolitan area: brightness temperature at $3.7{\mu}m$, the temperature at $11{\mu}m,\;the\;T_{3.7-11}$ for day and night, and the $R_{0.65}$ for daytime. The parameters show significant correlations (r<0.5) in spatial distribution between the two kinds of satellites. The discrepancy between their infrared thresholds is mainly due to the disagreement in their spatial resolutions and spectral bands, particularly at $3.7{\mu}m$. Fog detection from GOES-9 over the nine airport areas except the Cheongju airport has revealed accuracy of 60% in the daytime and 70% in the nighttime, based on statistical verification. The accuracy decreases in foggy cases with twilight, precipitation, short persistence, or the higher cloud above fog. The sensitivity of radiance and reflectance with wavelength has been analyzed in numerical experiments with respect to various meteorological conditions to investigate optical characteristics of the three channels.

  • The intelligent transportation systems allow us to have valuable opportunities for collecting wide-area coverage traffic data. The significant efforts have been made in many countries to provide the reliable traffic conditions information such as travel time. This study analyzes the impacts of the fog weather conditions on the traffic stream. Also, a strategy for predicting the long-term traffic speeds is developed under foggy weather conditions. The results show that the average of speed reductions are 2.92kph and 5.36kph under the slight and heavy fog respectively. The best prediction performance is achieved when the previous 45 pattern cases data is used, and the 14.11% of mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) is obtained. The outcomes of this study support the development of more reliable traffic information for providing advanced traffic information service.

  • The Internet of Things is a huge group of devices communicating each other and the interconnection of objects in the network is a basic requirement. Choosing a reliable device is critical because malicious devices can compromise networks and services. However, it is difficult to create a trust management model due to the mobility and resource constraints of IoT devices. For the centralized approach, there are issues of single point of failure and resource expansion and for the distributed approach, it allows to expand network without additional equipment by interconnecting each other, but it has limitations in data exchange and storage with limited resources and is difficult to ensure consistency. Recently, trust management models using fog nodes and blockchain have been proposed. However, blockchain has problems of low throughput and delay. Therefore, in this paper, a trust management model for selecting reliable devices in a fog-based IoT environment is proposed by applying IOTA, a blockchain technology for the Internet of Things. In this model, Directed Acyclic Graph-based ledger structure manages trust data without falsification and improves the low throughput and scalability problems of blockchain.

  • As cloud computing and the Internet of things are getting popular, the number of devices in the Internet of things computing environments is increasing. In addition, there exist various Internet-based applications, such as home automation and healthcare. In turn, existing studies explored the quality of service, such as downtime and reliability of tasks for Internet of things applications. To enhance the quality of service of Internet of things applications, cloud-fog computing (combining cloud computing and edge computing) can be used for offloading burdens from the central cloud server to edge servers. However, when devices inherit the mobility property, continuity and the quality of service of Internet of things applications can be reduced. In this paper, we propose a resource management scheme based on live migrations for mobility support in edge-based fog computing environments. The proposed resource management algorithm is based on the mobility direction and pace to predict the expected position, and migrates tasks to the target edge server. The performance results show that our proposed resource management algorithm improves the reliability of tasks and reduces downtime of services.

  • Portable and vehicle thermal fogs were tested using etofenprox, bifenthrin, and deltamethrin diluted with diesel oil, kerosene, and water against domestic vector mosquitoes, Aedes albopictus, Anopheles sinensis s.l., Culex pipiens, and Culex tritaeniorhynchus. The female mosquitoes were confined in small cages suspended on poles at progressively greater distances from the fog release point at an open field. The average mortality rates of four vector mosquitoes to the three insecticides were 52.0% and 64.0% at a portable thermal fogs diluted with diesel oil and water within a 10 m distance, respectively. A vehicle thermal fog had a mean mortality of 34.8% of the females to the insecticides diluted with diesel oil within 50 m. The mortality rates were not significantly different among all the tested distances. At a dilution solvent test, the mortality of the females to the insecticides diluted with kerosene was 1.9 times higher than that of diesel oil.
