Objectives : Loneliness is associated with negative mental and physical health. However, little is known about the risk factors of loneliness in the Korean elderly living alone. The aim of this study was to examine sociodemographic and social network related risks for loneliness among the elderly living alone. Methods : This is a cross-sectional study that enrolled 1,091 subjects who are the community-residing elderly living alone. Sociodemographic status, medical condition, cognition, mood disorder and levels of loneliness were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and a specific semi-structured interview conducted by a trained nurse. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data regarding sociodemographic variable and loneliness. Univariate and Multivariate regression analyses were applied to examine factors associated with loneliness. Results : The mean score of loneliness was 3.8 (SD=1.7). No family contact (standardized β=0.115, p<0.001), no religious attendance (standardized β=0.057, p=0.028), no gathering with friends (standardized β=0.088, p=0.001) and high score of Short for of Geriatric Depression Scale (standardized β=0.502, p<0.001) were significantly associated with high loneliness in the elderly living alone. Conclusions : Family function, social network and depressive mood could be significant risk factors for high loneliness in the elderly living alone. Public health promotion efforts to reduce loneliness should focus on improving family function, social network and decreasing depression.
Purpose - With the rapid economic development, great changes have happened in the Chinese beer market. The scale of imported beer is increasing. However, the sales of native Chinese beer decrease in recent years. It is because more Chinese customers prefer beer with unique attributes than those with lower prices. In order to take an advantage in this market, practitioners should develop new products to satisfy Chinese customers. Scholars have also focused on beer characteristics to estimate consumers' behavior for improving the development of beer industry. However, most studies are theoretically centered on marketing strategy management or general understanding of the market. It is not enough for us to explain customers' consumption patterns. Some empirical research did attempt to find out beer attributes that may influence their choice behavior. However, they failed to verify what can increase customers' utility through a new product. More importantly, few evidences can be found in the literature. Therefore this study explores the major characteristics of imported beer which may associate with customers' preferences. Research design, data, and methodology - With the results of literature review and focus group interview, we found out four main imported beer attributes and the levels of each factor. A pre-test is constructed to check the problems in the questionnaire protocol. With the results of pre-test, the revised questionnaire is processed among customers who have purchased and had imported beer in China regions such as Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangdong and so on. The choice-based conjoint analysis is applied to analyze the useful data of 205. Results - Results indicate that choice-based conjoint analysis is the effective method to estimate customers' choice behavior. Results also indicate that country of origin, price, taste, and package affect customers' preference and the importances of imported beer attributes are significantly different. Conclusions - Country of origin, price, taste, and package are important for customers to make an imported beer choice decision. Marketers should consider these determinants and their importance to develop new products. Moreover, choice-based conjoint analysis should be the useful method for practitioners to develop a new product of imported beer for sustainable business in the competitive industry.

Given that emotion-based computing environment has grown recently, it is necessary to focus on emotional access and use of multimedia resources including images. The purpose of this study aims to identify the visual cues for emotion in images. In order to achieve it, this study selected five basic emotions such as love, happiness, sadness, fear, and anger and interviewed twenty participants to demonstrate the visual cues for emotions. A total of 620 visual cues mentioned by participants were collected from the interview results and coded according to five categories and 18 sub-categories for visual cues. Findings of this study showed that facial expressions, actions / behaviors, and syntactic features were found to be significant in terms of perceiving a specific emotion of the image. An individual emotion from visual cues demonstrated distinctive characteristics. The emotion of love showed a higher relation with visual cues such as actions and behaviors, and the happy emotion is substantially related to facial expressions. In addition, the sad emotion was found to be perceived primarily through actions and behaviors and the fear emotion is perceived considerably through facial expressions. The anger emotion is highly related to syntactic features such as lines, shapes, and sizes. Findings of this study implicated that emotional indexing could be effective when content-based features were considered in combination with concept-based features.
The purpose of this study is to identify the significant characteristics shown in the field of mathematics by a gifted child, the educational curriculum for this child, and to find what has to be set in place in the areas of teacher's teaching methods and programs. The important aspect of these ideas is that one has to completely understand and know the characteristics of the gifted in order to give them the opportunity to discover their underlying talents and to develop upon those skills by giving them suitable and appropriate education for their intellectual state. This study focuses on the thoughts and behavior of a gifted male child, from his third to fifth grade, and the study shows the results and analysis of data gathered from close observation and interview, and a collection of documents gathered from the child. This study is analyzed from three different perspectives: 1. The typical life and surroundings of this gifted child, and how he was raised in this particular environment. This also shows the significant event that allowed others to recognize him as gifted. 2. Identification of how a gifted child's mind works in the field of mathematics. This attempts to analyze methods the child uses to arrive at a solution to a problem. 3. Exploration of mathematical attitude of the child. This shows the child's interest in mathematics, and the willingness to find better and more efficient ways to reach a solution. This also shows the child's ability to explain his purpose and methods of problem solving in detail, and the focus and clarity in communication of mathematics. This study will enlighten the readers with information on the importance of advanced education specifically designed for the gifted. In development of advanced education programs, it is necessary to comprehend the minds of the mathematically gifted, and furthermore, this will help in defining an appropriate teaching method and curriculum for a better equipped educational system.

This study investigates Korean fighter pilot's usage and satisfaction of a flight duty uniform (FDU). The survey was conducted from October 2014 to March 2015 using Focus Group Interview (FGI) and questionnaires. FGI collected qualitative data about duty and requirements; subsequently, surveys were performed to collect quantitative data about wearing conditions and satisfaction with FDU. The results of the FGI and the questionnaire were as follows. Type of pilot duty was divided into two parts, flight duty and ground duty. It is important to consider duties as well as factors related to survival when developing FDU. According to anthropometric data and wearing size, the basic size for apparel grading should be changed from actual size, 'M95XL' to 'M100L'. It is also necessary to improve the whole sizing system. Further studies about body form changes in pilot's movement are needed to improve mobility because the respondents perceived some restrictions at several body parts in movement with the coverall uniform. Summer FDU had a low satisfaction level in vent hole function and appearance. Furthermore, protection problems in the vent hole were also an issue. Making a seasonal classification of FDU fabric will be more effective than a vent hole to increase a pilot's thermal satisfaction. Respondents had a passive stance towards FDU reform (including pocket change); therefore, a new FDU design strategy should concentrate on improving current FDU functions like mobility (or comfort) rather than dramatic changes. Pilots complained about the quality stability of FDU; therefore, quality control by military administration as well as concrete and clear design instructions by the developer should be attained together. The results obtained in this study are expected to be used as an important basis for the further development of FDU.
This paper covers the development process of multimedia evaluation system, especially focused on customer satisfactory factors while customers navigating net-based Interactive multimedia system. Customers usually experience new level of interaction cased by newly developed web-based technology In ordinary multimedia system. However, if it gives customers satisfactory experience is a matter of question. To find out the relationship between customer satisfaction and interactivity factors exposed by multimedia system, a model has been developed which describes the structure of web-based multimedia system and its relation to customer satisfactory factors. Five different experiments, including 'semantic differential', 'focus group interview', and 'expert review', has been conducted and four customer satisfactory factors were identified. Those are 'customery value', 'structural perfectness', 'visual perfectness', and 'contemporaneity'. With these factors and newly delveoped evaluation system, 7 different web-site has been evaluated and analyzed at the end of this report.

Motivated reasoning refers to biased reasoning that is affected by motivation to achieve a particular result or goal. In this study, we attempted a theoretical study on motivated reasoning that hinders the development of scientific thinking and empirical study on actual context of motivated reasoning in the research experiences of next-generation Korean researchers in the field of science and technology. To be specific, literature reviews were conducted to explore the psychological meaning of motivated reasoning and its negative impact on scientific thinking and science research. To understand the substantial meaning and context of motivated reasoning in the field of real science and technology research, we conducted in-depth interviews with eight graduate students and one young science and technology researcher. As a result of the literature reviews, we found out that motivated reasoning can interfere with the proper theory and data coordination, which is the core process of scientific thinking at the individual level. At the socio-cultural level, it can lead to cessation of constructing scientific knowledge and it can act as a mechanism in the process of using science for specific socio-cultural beliefs or purposes, thereby hindering the development of science and technology based on rationale and objective scientific thinking. Quantitative analysis with in-depth interview data showed that graduate students and the young researcher's experienced motivated reasoning results in trying to protect prior beliefs, make hasty conclusions, protecting socio-cultural belief or rationalizing decisions made by their community. Their motivated reasoning could become an obstacle in constructing valid science and technology knowledge through appropriate theory and evidence coordination. Based on these findings we discussed science education for improving scientific thinking.
The purpose of this study is to develop an in-service teacher training program for professional development in environmental education. In order to achieve the goal, the in- service teacher training program for professional development in environmental education development / implement team is formed to deal with the development and the implementation of the program. The team is composed of environmental education professionals and environmental education teachers. After the development of the program, 20 teachers were selected to implement the program. Then, through various researches such as interview, monitoring, and survey, the evaluation of the program was done. After the evaluation, the feedback on the program was collected in order to apply the final adjustments and changes to the developed training program for professional development in environmental education. The training program is designed to include the wide range of theories and real life cases. It focuses on certain topic, and is implemented through workshop type training method to increase the participation rate. The major motive of the participants was to develop their professionality in environmental education. Based on the analysis of the training program and the workshop, 69.1% of the program is focused on the environmental education/learning theory, and 71.4% is focused on the environmental education teaching method. The environmental education teaching method is focused on the real life teaching method that could be used in many schools. However, the parts on environmental education philosophy, psychology, and evaluation was not included as a part of the program. Also, the evaluation method of the students learning the environmental education was not introduced as a part of the program as well. It is due to the limited time frame of the training program, as well as its focus on the training method of environmental program. Based on the analysis of the evaluation results obtained through monitoring, the training program for professional development in environmental education is successful in terms of focusing the goal of the program around the environmental education/learning theory and environmental education teaching method, which was the motive of the participants. However, the effectiveness of the program differed from participants to participants based on their majors in environmental education, and it did not last long enough. The future training program for professional development in environmental education should consider the backgrounds of the program participants to have various programs prepared for various groups of people. We suggest that the results of this developed program will be applied to "environmental education teacher licence training" in the future.
The purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions and tasks of lifelong education for individuals with disabilities, including the necessity of lifelong education and the range and content of it for the disabled. The research method is a focus group interview with 4 managers of lifelong education institutions for the disabled, and the data were analyzed according to the process of thematic analysis method proposed by Braun and Clarke(2006), which is one of qualitative data analysis methods. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the lifelong education for the disabled is needed, because, unlike the non-disabled, the disabled are less able to recognize and respond to social changes, which requires equipment or convenience facilities to improve it. Second, the range of lifelong education for the disabled was suggested as social life including daily life, vocational ability development education, culture·art·physical training, and those required by individuals with disabilities. Third, the lifelong education institutions for the disabled are lack of experts and have difficulty in communicating between practitioners and the disabled. In conclusion, it is required to provide lifelong education by self-determination of the disabled in the community by priority.
This study aim to figure out the limitation of existing ICT SMEs technology support programs conducted by Government Funded Research Institute. To investigate the limitations of SMEs programs, we conducted Focus Group Interview(FGI) with staff in charge of R&D department of beneficiaries(ICT SMEs). The results of FGI show that SMEs have troubles with the lack of R&D manpower, R&D infrastructure and non-R&D activities. Then, we conducted Delphi survey(derived from FGI) with related field experts to ask the problems and limitations of SMEs programs. The Results of Delphi show that SMEs programs has limitations with avoiding of SMEs support staff, lack of public R&D infrastructure sharing center, incompleteness of policies. Based on the results of FGI and Delphi, we suggest the several ways to improving SMEs programs.
