The fluid ensemble in the liquid lens, which is composed of electrolyte and silicone oil, is the key material system to vary the focal length processing of the electrochemical desorption. In order to characterize the capability of the liquid lens according to response time and optical range, we prepared a fluid ensemble comprising the electrolyte and oil. To elucidate the physical mechanism of the effective response time, we examined the viscosity dependency while satisfying the requirements for the density and refractive index of the electrolyte and oil, respectively. The characterization results indicated that the response time (up and down) is influenced by the viscosity of the electrolyte and oil. On this basis, we prepared a fluid ensemble capable of reversibly adjusting for the focal length of the liquid lens, as well as the response time. The ensemble is applicable to various systems such as micro-lens and optical sensors.
It was difficult to verify the car number or face of inspector in the closed circuit television because of low CCD pixels and low brightness of lens. So CCTV lens should have higher pixels and brightness. In this paper, the design of zoom lens for mega pixel Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) was introduced. We applied aspheric lens in order to reduce the spherical aberration and distortional aberration. And we applied focal length of 6-60mm, F number of 1.2, 3 million pixel resolution and magnifying power of 10 times. Also we applied infrared correction in order to use the CCTV camera in day and night effectively. These norms are the most powerful in CCTV zoom lens of focal length of 6-60mm. And if we apply this lens to the box style CCTV camera, we can verify the car number or face within 50m. Auto controlling system will be continued.
In general, such methods as interferometers or wavefront sensors are commonly used for testing of an optical system and optical components. In these cases, the surrounding environments are unlikely to affect the measurements. On the other hand, intraocular lenses of hydrophilic materials with special properties experience a certain difficulty in testing the optical properties. An intraocular lens is dried in the air, which causes deformation and changes the optical characteristics such as index of refraction and thickness. Thus, it is hard to measure the optical characteristics of an intraocular lens by using common methods. In this study, a special structure is used for measuring of the transmission wavefront aberration and effective focal length of an intraocular lens of hydrophilic materials by using a Shark-Hartmann sensor among the various measuring methods. As an application of this measuring method, this study shows a simple method to measure the index of refraction of unknown liquids with a plano-convex lens with a well known index of refraction. Also, this method is used to measure the optical properties of a plano-convex such as index of refraction and curvature by using a liquid with a well known index of refraction.

Angle sensors based on the principle of autocollimation, which are usually called autocollimators, can accurately measure small tilt angles of a light-reflecting flat surface. This paper describes a prototype micro-angle sensor that is based on the laser autocollimation technique. The new angle sensor is compact and consists of a laser diode as the light source and a quadrant photodiode as a position-sensing device. Because of its concise design, the microangle sensor facilitates dynamic measurements of the angular error motions of a precision stage without influencing the original dynamic properties of the stage. This is because the sensor only requires a small extra target mirror to be mounted on the stage. The sensitivity of the angle detection is independent of the focal length of the objective lens; therefore, an objective lens with a relatively short focal length is employed to reduce the size of the device. The micro-angle sensor uses a single lens for the both the laser collimation and focusing, which distinguishes it from the conventional laser autocollimation method that has separate collimate and objective lenses. The new micro-angle sensor has dimensions of $15.1\times22.0\times14.0mm$ and its resolution is better than 0.1 arc-second The optical design and performance of this micro-angle sensor were verified by experimental results.
In this study, we develop a three-dimensional (3D) terahertz time-of-flight (THz-TOF) imaging technique with a large depth range, based on asynchronous optical sampling (ASOPS) methods. THz-TOF imaging with the ASOPS technique enables rapid scanning with a time-delay span of 10 ns. This means that a depth range of 1.5 m is possible in principle, whereas in practice it is limited by the focus depth determined by the optical geometry, such as the focal length of the scan lens. We characterize the spatial resolution of objects at different vertical positions with a focal length of 5 cm. The lateral resolution varies from 0.8-1.8 mm within the vertical range of 50 mm. We obtain THz-TOF images for samples with multiple reflection layers; the horizontal and vertical locations of the objects are successfully determined from the 2D cross-sectional images, or from reconstructed 3D images. For instance, we can identify metallic objects embedded in insulating enclosures having a vertical depth range greater than 30 mm. For feasible practical use, we employ the proposed technique to locate a metallic object within a thick chocolate bar, which is not accessible via conventional transmission geometry.

A $^{192}Ir$ small-focal source has been developed by using the HANARO reactor and the radioisotope production facility at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The small-focal source with the dimension of 0.5 mm in diameter and 0.5 mm in length was fabricated as an aluminum-encapsulated form by a specially designed pressing equipment. For the estimation of the radioactivity, neutron self-shielding and ${\gamma}-ray$ self-absorption effects on the measured activity was considered. From this estimation, it is realized that $^{192}Ir$ small-focal sources over 3 Ci activities can be produced from the HANARO. Field performance tests were performed by using a conventional source and the developed source to take images of a computer CPU and a piece of a carbon steel. The small-focal source showed better penetration sensitivity and geometrical sharpness than the conventional source does. It is concluded from the tests that the focal dimension of this source is small enough to maximize geometrical sharpness in the image taking for the close proximity shots, pipeline crawler applications and contact radiography.

We have fabricated a microlens integrated silicon (Si) structure for optical interconnects. To form microlenses, the Si wafer was wet-etched with $SiN_x$ mask in a HF:$HNO_3:C_2H_4O_2$ solution and then the holes were filled with a AZ9260 photoresist. The focal length of microlens increased in proportional to its radius of curvature (ROC). For the ROC of $100-161{\mu}m$, the focal lengths were obtained approximately between $160{\mu}m$ and $310{\mu}m$, in an agreement with the simulated values using a ray tracing method.
A novel method is proposed for controlling the distance of an image plane in Fourier holograms using varifocal electric-field-driven liquid-crystal (ELC) lenses. Phase Fresnel lenses are employed to reduce the thickness and response time of the ELC lenses. The voltages applied to the electrodes of the ELC Fresnel lens are adjusted so that the lens has the same retardation distribution as an ideal lens. The focal length can be controlled by changing the retardation distribution with the applied voltages. Simulations were conducted for the image reconstruction of Fourier holograms with various focal lengths of the ELC Fresnel lenses. The simulation results indicate that the distance of the image plane can be properly controlled with the varifocal ELC Fresnel lens.
Large field spectrographs are severely influenced by atmospheric refraction. LAMOST is a large field multi-object spectroscopy telescope with $5^{\circ}$ field of view, f/5 focus ratio and 20m focal length. There will be 4000 fibers simultaneous on it's $\phi$1.75m focal plane. Here we discuss the atmospheric refraction effects on LAMOST in two hands. One is the effect of differential refraction across the field, another is the effect of atmospheric dispersion. According to the calculation, we find that: 1. The largest deviation from center within the field is 4.;32" during a 1.5-hour integration at $80^{\circ}$ declination. 2. The directions of deviation are complex, so the deviations can't be decreased by rotating the field. We also give out the atmospheric dispersions.

The microbolometer array sensor with fine pitch pixel array has been implemented to the released amorphous silicon layer supported by two contact pads. For the design of focal plane mirror with geometrical flatness, the simple beam test structures were fabricated and characterized. As the beam length decreased, the effect of beam width on the bending was minimized, Mirror deformation of focal plane in a real pixel showed downward curvature by residual stress of a-Si and Ti layer. The mirror tilting was caused by the mis-align effect of contact pad and confirmed by FEA simulation results. The properties of bolometer have been measured as such that the NETD 145 mK, the TCR -2 %/K, and thermal time constant 1.99 ms.
