Geopolymer is a term covering a class of synthetic aluminosilicate materials with potential use in a number of areas, but mainly as a replacement for Portland cement. In this study, geopolymers with fly ash and meta kaolin were prepared using KOH as an alkali activator and water glass. The effect of water glass on the microstructures and the compressive strength of the geopolymer was investigated. As the amount of water glass increased, the dissolved inorganic binder particles in the geopolymers increased due to polymerization, resulting in a dense microstructure. The meta kaolin-based geopolymer showed a better extent of polymerization and densification than that of the fly ash-based geopolymer. XRD data also suggested that polymerization in meta kaolin-based geopolymers should be active resulting in the formation of an amorphous phase with an increasing amount of water glass. The compressive strength of the geopolymer was also dependent on the amount of water glass. The compressive strength of the geopolymers from both fly ash and meta kaolin increased with an increasing amount of water glass because water glass improved the extent of polymerization of the inorganic binder and resulted in a dense microstructure. However, the addition of water glass to the geopolymer did not seem to be effective for the improvement of compressive strength because the meta kaolin-based geopolymer mainly consisted of a clay component. For this reason, the fly ash-based geopolymer showed a higher value of compressive strength than the meta-kaolin geopolymer.
Three-component coupling of thiourea/urea, various structurally diverse aromatic aldehydes and ammonium acetate is catalyzed by activated fly ash in dry media under microwave irradiation to give 6-aryl-1,2,4,5-tetrazinan- 3-thiones/ones in good yields. The structure of 6-aryl-1,2,4,5-tetrazinan-3-thiones/ones have been elucidated on the basis of their melting points, elemental analysis, MS, IR, 1H NMR, D2O exchange, 13C NMR and two dimensional NMR spectral studies including Homonuclear Correlation (HOMOCOR) and Heteronuclear Single Quantum Correlation (HSQC) spectra.
Concrete is the most widely used material of construction. Concrete gained the popularity as a construction material due to the easy availability of its component materials, the easy formability, strength and rigidity upon setting and curing. In construction industry, strength is the primary criterion in selecting a concrete for a particular application. Now a days, the substantial amount of waste materials, containing the properties of the Pozzolana, is being generated from the major industries; and disposal of such industrial wastes generated in abundance is also a serious problem from the environmental and pollution point of view. On this backdrop, efforts are made by the researchers for exploring the possible utilization of such waste materials in making the sustainable construction material. The present paper reports the experimental investigations to study the strength characterization of concrete made from the pozzolanic waste materials. For this purpose, the Pozzolanic materials such as fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag were used as a cement replacing materials in conjunction with ordinary Portland cement. Equal amount of these materials were used in eight trial mixes with varying amount of cement. The water cement ratio was also varied. The chemical admixture was also added to improve the workability of concrete. The compressive strengths for 7, 28, 40 and 90 days' were evaluated whereas the flexural and tensile strengths corresponding to 7, 28 and 40 days were evaluated. The study corroborates that the pozzolanic materials used in the present investigation along with the cement can render the sustainable concrete.

The mechanical property enhancement was studied using fly ash produced from fluidized bed type boiler in power plant, which contains a lot of Ca component being used to carbonate for $CO_2$ fixation in the lightweight aggregates made of cement and some portion of fly ash as a cement substitution under the supercritical condition. Specimens having various fly ash substitution rates and curing periods were carbonated under the supercritical condition at $40^{\circ}C$. The weight change rate, carbonation rate by TG/DTA analysis, 1% Phenolphthalein test, specific gravity and mechanical compression strength test were performed to observe the mechanical property enhancement of the cemented materials after carbonation under the supercritical condition and to make sure those could be classified as lightweight aggregates having specific gravity under 2.0.

In this study, the purpose is to suggest the data on mixing ratio which effects on the carbonation of concrete by replacing various admixture such as silica fume, fly ash, slag powder. Thus, we have experimented the accelerated test on the carbonation related to hardened body of the concrete which was admixed by slag powder, silica fume, fly ash and it was cured for 4 weeks in carbonation accelerator after 28 days curing water. The result of this experiment showed that carbonation speed increased highly when admixtures be used to replacing by growing of admixture ratio. especially, the test sample which was replaced with silica fume 15$\%$ and slag powder 40$\%$, was promoted highly to carbonation.
All coal ash, generated from coal-fired power plants, is entirely dumped onto a landfill site. As coal ash contains 80% fly ash, a clean floating process was developed in this study to recover useful components from coal ash and to use them as high value-added industrial materials. When the unburned carbon (UC) was recovered from the fly ash, soybean oil, an eco-friendly vegetable oil, was used as collector instead of a non-ionic kerosene collector to prevent the occurrence of odor from the kerosene. After the UC was separated by flotation, particulate ceramic microsphere (CM) was recovered, without generating acidic wastewater, through hydro-cyclone instead of sulfuric acid solution in order to separate ceramic microsphere (CM) and cleaned ash (CA) from the residue. By utilizing soybean oil as a collector, the recovery rate of UC turned high at 85.8% due to the increased adsorption of UC, the high viscosity of soybean oil, and the increase in floating properties caused by the linoleic acid contained in soybean oil. All of the combustible components contained in the recovered UC were carbon components, with the carbon content registering high when soybean oil was used. The recovered UC had many pores with a rough surface; thus, it could be easily ground and then used as an industrial material for its fine particles. The CM and CA recovered by the clean separation process using hydro-cyclone had a spherical shape, and the particles were clearly separated without clumping together. The average diameter (D50) of the particles was 5 ㎛, so it was possible to realize the atomization of CM through a process change.

Recently, many experiments using industrial by-products have been going on in Korea and abroad. Most of the studies on blast furnace slag and fly ash have been conducted, and the blast furnace slag based two and three component experiments have been conducted in many places. Therefore, this study is an additional study of research using polysilicon sludge and paper ash, which is a study using existing industrial by-products based on blast furnace slag, as strength properties of alkali activator according to kind and mixing ratio and to obtain basic data do.

In this study, a salt water immersion test was performed on concrete specimens simulating the concrete mix design of the nuclear power plant, and the correlation between the amount of chloride and the XRF component according to the depth of the concrete was analyzed. The amount of chloride on the surface of the nuclear power plant concrete increased slightly with increasing immersion time in salt water, but the amount of chloride in the depth of 5.5 mm or more showed a clear tendency to increase with increasing immersion time in salt water. As a result of analyzing the correlation between the amount of chloride in concrete and the XRF component, the concrete with 20% FA substitution compared with the OPC concrete showed a very high correlation between the composition ratio of Cl ions and the evaluation result of salt damage resistance by XRF component analysis. Accordingly, it was confirmed that chlorine ion analysis and salt damage resistance performance evaluation by XRF component analysis were possible through repeated data accumulation in the nuclear power plant concrete mix with 20% fly ash replacement.

The aim of this research is providing the fundamental data for treating and recycling the byproducts by using the wet processed bottom ash as a fine aggregate replacement for cement-based extruded panel. Although the cement-based extruded panel was used mainly as a cladding component with its high strength and outstanding durability, it was hardly spread because of low economic feasibility due to the high cost of additives or fibers which were used to achieve 14 MPa of flexural strength as a cladding material. As a solution of this drawback, by the previous research, it was possible to replace cement by fly ash up to 80 % by decreasing quality criteria with restricting the application to indoor purpose. In this research, based on the previous research, by using the bottom ash as a replacement of fly ash, improvement of shape retention performance is tried. As a result of the experiment on evaluating the optimum content and PSD of bottom ash, as the fineness modulus and content of bottom ash was increased, the extruding performance was decreased and penetration resistance was increased. Additionally, the optimum content and the maximum particle size was found as 20 %, and 0.3 mm, respectively.
Recently, concrete using multicomponent blended cement has been required to increase the freeze-thaw and sulfate resistances of concrete structures exposed to a marine environment. Thus, the purpose of this study was to propose the use of concrete containing multicomponent blended cement as one of the alternatives for concrete structures exposed to a marine environment. For this purpose, batches of concrete containing ordinary portland cement (OPC), binary blended cement (OPC-G, G: ground granulated blast slag), ternary blended cement (OPC-GF, F: fly ash), and quaternary blended cement (OPC-GFM, M: mata-kaolin) were made using a water-binder ratio of 50%. Then, the durability levels, including thesulfate and freeze-thaw resistances, were estimated for concrete samples containing OPC, OPC-G, OPC-GF, and OPC-GFM. It was observed from the tests that the durability levels of the concrete samples containing OPC-G and OPC-GF were found to be much better than that of the concrete containing OPC. The optimum mixing proportions were a40% replacement ratio of ground granulated blast slag for the binary blended cement and a30% replacement ratio of ground granulated blast slag and 10% fly ash for the ternary blended cement.
