Reducing Cogging Torque by Flux-Barriers in Interior Permanent Magnet BLDC Motor (회전자 자속장벽 설계에 의한 영구자석 매입형 BLDC 전동기 코깅 토오크 저감 연구)

  • For high efficiency and easy speed control of brushless DC (BLDC) motor, the demand of BLDC motor is increasing. Especially demand of interior permanent magnet (IPM) BLDC with high efficiency and high power in electric motion vehicle is increasing. However, IPM BLDC basically has a high cogging torque that results from the interaction of permanent magnet magnetomotive force (MMF) harmonics and air-gap permeance harmonics due to slotting. This cogging torque generates vibration and acoustic noises during the driving of motor. Thus reduction of the cogging torque has to be considered in IPM BLDC motor design by analytical methods. This paper proposes the cogging torque reduction method for IPM BLDC motor. For reduction of cogging torque of IPM BLDC motor, this paper describes new technique of the flux barriers design. The proposed method uses sinusoidal form of flux density to reduce the cogging torque. To make the sinusoidal air-gap flux density, flux barriers are applied in the rotor and flux barriers that installed in the rotor produce the sinusoidal form of flux density. Changing the number of flux barrier, the cogging torque is analyzed by finite element method. Also characteristics of designed model by the proposed method are analyzed by finite element method.

Study on the Ld, Lq Characteristic Parameter of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor in different barrier width (배리어 길이에 따른 매입형 영구자석 동기전동기의 Ld, Lq 특성 파라미터에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we calculated permanent magnetic linkage flux ${\psi}_{\alpha}$ and Ld, Lq parameters of IPMSM and compared two model which has different barrier width. IPMSM has two kinds of torque that reluctance torque and magnetic torque. In constant torque region, using the Maxwell stress tensor method, we calculated the torque and current phase angle ${\beta}$ which has appeared maximum torque. In weakening flux region, we calculated the current phase angle ${\beta}$ which flux ${\psi}_o$ lower than limited flux ${\psi}_{omax}$. From the current phase angle ${\beta}$, we calculated torque by torque equation and compared two model characteristic.

  • Generally, the usage motor in the vehicle is exposed to highly ambient temperature and large vibration according to repeatedly starting and stopping during very short time. So, in this paper, the rotor shape design was performed to improve demagnetization endurance by considering starting current of Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) through Finite Element Method(FEM). As a result, the end of Permanent Magnet (PM) in the basic model was occurring a partial irreversible demagnetization by starting current. To solve this problem, the installing flux barrier was limited to flux line on the core. Accordingly, demagnetization endurance and operating characteristics were improved.

  • This paper describes an approach to design a interior permanent magnet motor(IPM motor) for the reduction of cogging torque. The magnitude of the torque ripple and cogging torque in a interior permanent magnet motor(IPM motor) are generally dependent on several major factors: the shape of stator tooth tip, slot opening width, air gap length, the shape of barrier preventing flux leakage of magnets, magnet configuration and magnetization distribution or magnet poles. In this paper, the IPM BLDC motor is designed considering a saturated leakag flux between the barriers on the rotor for increasing the efficiency and decreasing the magnitude of the cogging torque. Analytical model is developed for the IPM BLDC motor with a concentrated winding stator. The results verifies that the proposed design approach is very efficient and effective in reducing the cogging torque and the torque ripple of the IPM BLDC motor to be used in an electric vehicle.

  • A nuclide transfer by utilizing mass transfer coefficient and barrier response function defined for each barrier is proposed, by which the final nuclide transfer rate into the sea water can be evaluated. When simple and immediate quantification of the nuclide release is necessary in the conservative aspect, using this kind of approach may be advantageous since each layered barrier can be treated separately from other media in series in the repository system, making it possible to apply separate solutions in succession to other various media. Although one disadvantage is that while flux continuity can be maintained at the interface by using the exit nuclide flux from the first medium as the source flux for the next one, there may be no guarantee for concentration continuity, this problem could be eliminated assuming that there is no boundary resistance to mass transfer across the interface. Mass transfer coefficient can be determined by the assumption that the nuclide concentration gradient at the interface between adjacent barriers remains constant and barrier response function is obtained from an analytical expression for nuclide flow rate out of each barrier in response to a unit impulse into the barrier multiplied by mass transfer coefficient. Total time-dependent nuclide transfer rate from the barrier can then be obtained by convoluting the response function for the barrier with a previously calculated set of time-varying input of nuclide flow rate for the previous barrier.

Phospholipid Polymer, 2-Methacryloyloxyethyl Phosphorylcholine and Its Skin Barrier Function

  • The effect of poly[2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine] (pMPC) on the skin permeation property was investigated by performing in vitro skin permeation study of a model drug, nicotinic acid (NA). Effect of pMPC polymer in donor solution on skin permeation rates was evaluated using side-by-side diffusion cells. Also, the structural alterations in the stratum corneum (SC), inter-lamellar bilayer (ILB) and dermis layers in pMPC-treated and -untreated skin sections were investigated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The permeation profile of NA without pMPC in donor solution showed biphasic mode: initial $1^{st} phase and 2^{nd}$ hydration phase. The sudden, more than 10-fold increase in flux from the initial steady state (43.5 $\mu g/cm^2$/hr) to the $2^{nd}$ hydration phase (457.3 $\mu g/cm^2$/hr) suggests the disruption of skin barrier function due to extensive hydration. The permeation profile of NA with 3% pMPC in the donor solution showed monophasic pattern: the steady state flux (10.9 $\mu g/cm^2$/hr) without abrupt increase of the flux. The degree of NA permeation rate decreased in a concentration-dependent manner of pMPC. TEM of skin equilibrated with water or 2% pMPC for 12 h showed that corneocytes are still cohesive and epidermis is tightly bound to dermis in 2% pMPC-treated skin, while wider separation between corneocytes and focal dilations in inter-cellular spaces were observed in water-treated skin. This result suggests that pMPC could protect the barrier property of the stratum corneum by preventing the disruption of ILB structure caused by extensive skin hydration during skin permeation study.

Ion Flux Assisted PECVD of SiON Films Using Plasma Parameters and Their Characterization of High Rate Deposition and Barrier Properties

  • Silicon oxynitride (SiON) was deposited for gas barrier film on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) using octamethylycyclodisiloxane (Si4O4C8H24, OMCTS) precursor by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) at low temperature. The ion flux and substrate temperature were measured by oscilloscope and thermometer. The chemical bonding structure and barrier property of films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), respectively. The deposition rate of films increases with RF bias and nitrogen dilution due to increase of dissociated precursor and nitrogen ion incident to the substrate. In addition, we confirmed that the increase of nitrogen dilution and RF bias reduced WVTR of films. Because, on the basis of FT-IR analysis, the increase of the nitrogen gas flow rate and RF bias caused the increase of the C=N stretching vibration resulting in the decrease of macro and nano defects.

  • The structure of interior permanent magnet type brushless DC motor (IPM type BLDC motor) has high saliency ratios that produce additional reluctance torque. But this structure has a significant cogging torque that may cause acoustic noise and vibration. In this paper describes an optimization of flux barrier in order to reduce cogging torque and torque ripple in IPM type BLDC motor using the Taguchi methods. The optimal design consider- ed noises such as manufacturing tolerances of permanent magnet size. So, optimal design ensures that torque performance is insensitive to noise.

  • Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) produces two kind of torque that Magnetic and Reluctance torque. The permanent magnet linkage flux ${\Psi}_a$ and d-axis and q-axis inductances have an important influence on the torque characteristic of IPMSM. Thus their accurate prediction is essential for predicting performance aspect such as the torque and flux-weakening capabilities. In this paper, the influence of barrier width on the ${\Psi}_a$ and $L_d$, $L_q$ is calculated by FEM analysis. Predictions are validated by comparison the average torques, using Maxwell Stress Tensor method.

  • This paper deals with an automatic design procedure for the maximum torque density and power factor in a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM). The focus of this paper is the design relative to the number of flux barrier and the ratio Kw of flux barrier width to iron sheet width of a SynRM under the mechanical constraint. The Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) has been used to evaluate the maximum torque density and power factor with each rotor shape. The proposed procedure allows to define the rotor geometric dimensions starling from an existing mootor or a preliminary design. The maximum torque density and power factor of a SynRM has been resulted with the rotor design variation. To prove the propriety of the designed SynRM, the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) installed experimental devices are equipped and the efficiency characteristic test is Performed.
