In this article, a special kind of axial flux permanent magnet machine has proved to be suitable for high torque and low speed applications. An innovative design of the machine has been proposed in order to make the machine suitable for traction applications by means of field-weakening. The aim of this paper is to analyze, in general terms, the basic equations that describe the operating conditions of such machines. Optimal sizes for design can be obtained by calculating the power density and the air-gap flux density, etc.
This paper focuses on understanding the interrupting capability of an arc contact system in a molded case circuit breaker (hereafter MCCB). We selected four types of MCCBs and analyzed the magnetic flux density distributions in the contact systems caused by the fault currents. We ascertained that the magnetic flux density profile varies according to the shape of the contact system and was asymmetric at both the ends of an arc, perpendicular to the arc column because of the magnetic grid installed in the contact system. The asymmetric difference creates a magnetic force that pushes the arc current outwards and provides an interrupting capability. We have introduced a simple analysis method for determining the interrupting capability of the contact system for an MCCB by the arc-driving magnetic flux density.
In order to develop an optimum formulation for iontophoretic delivery of vitamine C-2-phosphate (VCP) from Carbopol hydrogel, we have investigated various factors which can affect the iontophoretic flux through skin. Such factors as drug concentration, current density, current profile, current duration, ionic strength, pH and percutaneous enhancers (ethanol, glycerine, propylene glycerol, sorbitol, urea) were studied. Compared to the flux by passive or anodal delivery, the flux by cathodal delivery increased markedly, and thus, only cathodal delivery was used in the rest of the flux experiments. Flux increased linearly as the drug concentration and current density increased. As the duration of current application increased from 30 min to 120 min, flux increased linearly, however the AUC was not directly proportional to the applied amount of current. Flux also increased as the pH increased, possibly due to the increase in ionization of phosphate group. As the ionic strength increased, flux decreased. No significant increase in flux was observed after enhancer application, indicating that the effect of current on flux is dominating over the effect of percutaneous enhancers (P>0.05). These results provide important informations that are needed for optimal formulation of iontophortic delivery for VCP.
A dual side cooling annular fuel having internal and external coolant channels has many advantages basically due to low fuel temperature and high DNBR margin, which can make a significant increase of core power density possible. So recently a 12x12 square annular fuel array was proposed for the fuel assembly to be reloaded without structural interference with operating reactors of OPR-1000s. Even through the inherent potential of the annular fuel on the high power density, it may be seriously eroded in the case of a severe unbalanced mass flux split to the internal and external channels in standpoint of DNB. Mass flux split is determined pressure drop characteristics between inner and outer channels. The spacer grids binding fuel array influence greatly the pressure drop in outer channels and the mass flux split. As an important factor of DNB behavior, the enthalpy differences at both channel exits were evaluated using the mass flux splits.
The effects on the characteristics of 20-W fluorescent lamp were studied when applying magnetic field to its positive column. First, when the direction of the magnetic field is axial, i.e., along the lamp, if the magnitude of the field is stronger than the critical field, lamp voltage is increased, lamp current decreased, luminous flux increased, starting voltage decreased, as increasing the applied magnetic field. At the magnetic flux density is 130 gauss, luminous flux is increased to about 6 percents and starting voltage is increased to about 45 percents. Second, when the direction of the magnetic field is transverse to the lamp axis, as increasing the applied magnetic field, lamp voltage is increased, lamp current decreased, luminous flux increased and starting voltage is nearly constant, but the rates of increase or decrease of this case is different from those of the first. At the magnetic flux density is 300 gauss, luminous flux is increased about 45 percents. In both cases, electric power dissipated by lamps is the same as that of the lamp which magnetic field is not applied to.
This experimental study represents the results of an analysis on the characteristics of flux density distributions in the focal region of solar concentrator. The characteristics of flux density distributions are investigated to optimally design and position a cavity receiver. This deemed very useful to find and correct various errors associated with a dish concentrator. We estimated the flux density distribution on the target placed along with focal lengths from the dish vertex to experimentally determine the focal length. It is observed that the actual focal point exists when the focal length is 2.17 m. We also evaluated the position of flux centroid, and it was found that there were errors within 2 cm from the target center. The total integrated power of 2467 W was measured under focal flux distributions, which corresponds to the intercept rate of 85.8%. As a result of the percent power within radius, approximately 90% of the incident radiation is intercepted by about 0.06 m radius.

Wrought Si-steels are generally used for electromagnetic valves, which are needed good response. To date, Hitachi Powdered Metals Co., Ltd. have produced Fe-Si base sintered magnetic material, EU-52, which shows a magnetic flux density of more than 1.25T at 2000A/m and a maximum permeability of more than 3500. However these magnetic properties are lower than that of wrought Si-steels. Because EU-52 has a low density of $7.2Mg/m^3$. For improving the magnetic properties, it is necessary to increase the density of sintered cores. To increase density, a new mixing method of coating fine Si powders on atomized iron powders was developed, for avoiding the Kirkendall effect. As the result, developed P/M Fe-Si magnetic cores shows higher density of $7.38Mg/m^3$, higher magnetic flux density of 1.48T at 2000A/m and higher maximum permeability of 6800.
The local power density should be estimated accurately to prevent fuel rod melting. The local power density at the hottest part of a hot fuel rod, which is described by the power peaking factor, is more important information than the local power density at any other position in a reactor core. Therefore, in this work, the power peaking factor, which is defined as the highest local power density to the average power density in a reactor core, is estimated by fuzzy neural networks using numerous measured signals of the reactor coolant system. The fuzzy neural networks are trained using a training data set and are verified with another test data set. They are then applied to the first fuel cycle of Yonggwang nuclear power plant unit 3. The estimation accuracy of the power peaking factor is 0.45% based on the relative $2_{\sigma}$ error by using the fuzzy neural networks without the in-core neutron flux sensors signals input. A value of 0.23% is obtained with the in-core neutron flux sensors signals, which is sufficiently accurate for use in local power density monitoring.
