A new type of auto-rotary PM mechanical flux-varying PM machine (ARPMMFVPMM) is proposed in this paper, which can overcome the problem where the air-gap magnetic field of a PM machine is difficult to freely adjust. The topology structures of the machine and the mechanical flux-adjusting device are given. In addition, the operation principle of flux-adjusting is analyzed in detail. Furthermore, the deformation of a spring with the speed variation is obtained by virtual prototype technology. Electromagnetic characteristics including the flux distribution, air gap flux density, flux linkage, electromagnetic-magnetic-force (EMF), and flux weakening ability are computed by 2D finite element method (FEM). Results show that the machine has some advantages such as the good field control ability.

This paper proposes a new measurement method to improve the shortcomings of an existing integral method for measuring heat flux in plug-type heat flux gauges in the high-temperature and high-pressure environments of liquid-rocket combustors. Using the existing integral measurement method, the calculation of the surface area for the heat flux in the gauge exhibits error in relation to the actual surface area. To solve this problem, transient profiles obtained from ANSYS Fluent were used to calculate unsteady heat flux as it adjusted to the measured temperature. First, a heat flux gauge was designed and manufactured specifically for use in the high-temperature and high-pressure conditions that are similar to those of liquid rocket combustors. A calibration test was performed to prove the reliability of the manufactured gauge. Then, a combustion experiment was conducted, in which the gauge was used to measure unsteady heat flux in a liquid rocket combustor that used kerosene and liquid oxygen as propellants. Reasonable heat flux values were obtained using the gauge. Therefore, the proposed measurement method is considered to offer significant improvement over the existing integral method.

A mathematical sensitivity analysis of the flow-through dynamic flux chamber technique, which has been utilized usually for various trace gas flux measurement from soil and water surface, was performed in an effort to provide physical and mathematical understandings of parameters essential for the NO flux calculation. The mass balance equation including chemical reactions was analytically solved for the soil NO flux under the steady state condition. The equilibrium concentration inside the chamber, $C_{eq}$, was found to be determined mainly by the balance between the soil flux and dilution of the gas concentration inside the chamber by introducing the ambient air. Surface deposition NO occurs inside the chamber when the $C_{eq}$ is greater than the ambient NO concentration ($C_{0}$) introducing to the chamber; NO emission from the soil occurs when the $C_{eq}$ is less than the ambient NO concentration. A sensitivity analysis of the significance of the chemical reactions of NO with the reactive species (i.e. $HO_{2},/CH_{3}O_{2},/O_{3}$) on the NO flux from soils was performed. The result of the analysis suggests that the NO flux calculated in the absence of chemical reactions and wall loss could be in error ranges from 40 to $85\%$ to the total flux.
This paper describes a model flux pump experiment recently performed at the MIT Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory. The results of the model flux pump will be used in the development of a prototype flux pump that will be couple to a high-temperature superconductor (HTS) insert coil of a high-field NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) magnet, Such an HTS insert is unlikely to operate in persistent model because of the conductors low index(n) The flux pump can compensate fro field decay in the HTS insert coil and make the insert operate effectively in persistent mode . The flux pump, comprised essentially of a transformer an two switches. all made of superconductor, transfers into the insert coil a fraction of a magnetic energy that is first introduced in the secondary circuit of the transformer by a current supplied to the primary circuit. A model flux pump has been designed. fabricated, and operated to demonstrate that a flux pump can indeed supply a small metered current into a load superconducting magnet. A current increment in the range of microamperes has been measured in the magnet after each pumping action. The superconducting model flux pump is made of Nb$_3$ Sn tape, The pump is placed in a gaseous environment above the liquid helium level to keep its heat dissipation from directly discharged in the liquid: the effluent helium vapor maintains the thermal stability of the flux pump.

PMSMS (permanent magnet synchronous motors) are widely used in industrial applications and home appliances because of their high torque to inertia ratio, superior power density, and high efficiency. For high performance control, accurate informations about the rotor position is essential. Sensorless algorithms have lately been studied extensively due to the high cost of position sensors and their low reliability in harsh environments. A novel position sensorless speed control for PMSMs uses indirect flux estimation and is presented in this paper. Rotor position and angular velocity are estimated by the proposed indirect flux estimation. Linkage flux and magnetic field flux are calculated by the voltage equations and the measured phase current without any integration. Instead of linkage flux calculation with integral operation, indirect flux and differential magnetic field are used for the estimation of rotor position. A proper rejection technique fur current noise effect in the calculation of differential linkage flux is introduced. The proposed indirect flux detecting method is free from the integral rounding error and linkage flux drift problem, because differential linkage flux can be calculated without any integral operation. Furthermore, electrical parameters of the PMSM can be measured by the proposed TCM (time compression method) for soft starting and precise estimation of rotor position. The position estimator uses accurate electrical parameters that are obtained from the proposed TCM at starting strategy. In the operating region, a proper compensation method fur temperature effect can compensate fir the estimation error from the variation of electrical parameters. The proposed novel position sensorless speed control scheme is verified by the experimental results.
Flux estimation is a significant foundation of high-performance control for DC-excited synchronous motor. For almost all flux estimators, such as the flux estimator based on phase locked loop (PLL), DC drift causes fluctuations in flux magnitude. Furthermore, significant dynamic error may be introduced at transient conditions. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes an improved flux estimator for the PLL-based algorithm. Filters based on the generalized integrator are used to avoid flux fluctuation problems caused by the DC drift at the back electromotive force. Programmable low-pass filters are employed to improve the dynamic performance of the flux estimator, and the cutoff frequency of the filter is determined by the dynamic factor. The algorithm is verified by a 960V/1.6MW industrial prototype. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed estimator can estimate the flux more accurately than the PLL-based algorithm in a cycloconverter-fed DC-excited synchronous machine vector control system.
An experimental study on transient critical heat flux (CHF) under flow coastdown has been performed for the water flow in a non-uniformly heated vertical annulus under low flow and a wide range of pressure conditions. The objectives of this study are to systematically investigate the effect of the flow transient on the CHF and to compare the transient CHF with steady-state CHF The transient CHF experiments have been performed for three kinds of flow transient modes based on the coastdown data of a nuclear power plant reactor coolant pump. At the same inlet subcooling, system pressure and heat flux, the effect of the initial mass flux on the critical mass flux can be negligible. However, the effect of the initial mass flux on the time-to- CHF becomes large as the heat flux decreases. The critical mass flux has the largest value for slow flow reduction rate. There is a pressure effect on the ratio of the transient CHF data to steady-state CHF data. Except under low system pressure conditions, the flow transient CHF was revealed to be conservative compared with the steady-state CHF data. Bowling CHF correlation and thermal hydraulic system code MARS show promising results for the prediction of CHF occurrence .

The cooling characteristic of water-air mixed spray for high water mass flux is not well defined, compared to that of highly pressurized spray. A series of research program was planned to develop the boiling correlation for whole temperature range in case of water-air mixed spray with high water mass flux. The cooling experiments of hot steel surface with initial temperature of 820$^{\circ}C$ were conducted in unsteady state with relatively high water mass flux. A computer program was developed to calculate the heat flux inversely from measured data by three inserted thermocouples. Finally the effects of water and air mass flux on the averaged film boiling heat flux and wetting temperature were studied. In this 1st report, it is found that the boiling curve was similar to that of highly pressurized spray and the decreased slope of heat flux in film boiling region with respect to surface temperature became steep by increasing air mass flux. Also it is shown that, by increasing air mass flux, the averaged heat flux in film boiling region was increased, and then saturated and the wetting temperature was increased, and then decreased. Finally when the heat flux in film boiling region is compared with that of highly pressurized spray, it is known that the cooling is improved by introducing air up to 60%.

In this paper, Annual flux variations in the Boseong Tall Tower (BTT) from 2016 to 2020 were analyzed using data from three levels (2.5 m, 60 m, and 300 m). BTT was installed in Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do in February 2014 and continued to conduct energy exchange observations such as CO2, sensible heat, and latent heat using the eddy covariance method until March 2023. The BTT was located in a very flat and uniform paddy field, and flux observations were conducted at four levels: 2.5 m, 60 m, 140 m, and 300 m above ground. Surface energy balance was confirmed from observed data of net radiation flux, soil heat flux, sensible heat flux, and latent heat flux. Additionally, 2.5 m height surface fluxes, which are most influenced by agricultural land, were compared with data from Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS) of the Korea Meteorological Administration to evaluate the accuracy of LDAPS flux data. The correlation coefficient between LDAPS flux data and observed values was 0.95 or higher. Excluding summer latent heat flux data, there was a general tendency for LDAPS data to be higher than observed values. The footprint areas estimated below 60 m height mainly covered agricultural land, and flux observations at 2.5 m and 60 m heights showed typical agricultural characteristics. In contrast, the footprint estimated at 300 m height did not show agricultural characteristics, indicating that observations at this height encompassed a wide range, including mountains, sea, and roads. The analysis results of long-term flux observations can contribute to understanding the energy and carbon dioxide fluxes in agricultural fields. Furthermore, these results can be utilized as essential data for validating and improving numerical models related to such fluxes.
It is essential to understand the role of wall lining materials when they are exposed to a fire from an ignition source. Full-scale test methods permit an assessment of the performance of a wall lining material. Fire growth models have been developed due to the costly expense associated with full-scale testing. The models require heat flux maps from the ignition burner flame as input data. Work to date was impeded by a lack of detailed spatial characterization of the heat flux maps due to the use of limited instrumentation. To increase the power of fire modeling, accurate and detailed heat flux maps from the ignition burner are essential. High level spatial resolution for surface temperature can be provided from an infrared camera. The objective of this study was to develop a heat flux mapping procedure for a room test burner flame to a wall configuration with surface temperature information taken from an infrared camera. A prototype experiment was performed using the ISO 9705 test burner to demonstrate the developed heat flux mapping procedure. The results of the experiment allow the heat flux and spatial resolutions of the method to be determined and compared to the methods currently available.
