형광성 탐색자(探索者)로서 ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$ -< I > 분자분광학적 특성과 Liposome Probe로서의 이용- (${\alpha}-Tocopherol$ as a Fluorescent Probe -< I > Its spectroscopic characterization and use as a probe of liposome-)

  • liposome에 결합되어 있는 ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$의 형광을 이용하여 liposome의 상전이온도를 측정할 수 있었다. 이는 ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$의 vitamin E로서의 중요성 이외에 형광성 프로브로서의 새로운 가치의 발견이다. 형광성 프로브로서 그 응용의 확대를 위한 필수적인 기초자료의 수집을 위해, 분자분광학적성질을 조사하였다. 용액중의 ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$은 monomer와 dimer의 두가지 형태로 존재하며, 단파장흡수대$(291{\sim}294nm)$의 monomer는 형광성인데 반하여 dimer는 298nm 부근을 흡수하는 비형광성이고 분자간수소결합에 의하여 형성되었음이 밝혀졌다. liposome에 결합된 ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$은 각종 유기용매 중에서의 ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$과는 판이한 형광성질을 갖고 있었고 chromanolate이온형태의 화학종으로부터 생긴 것으로 해석되었다.

3-D 유체집속효과와 레이저 중합반응을 이용한 PDA 센서 미세섬유 제작 (On-Chip Fabrication of PDA Sensor Fiber Using Laser Polymerization and 3-D Hydrodynamic Focusing)

  • Polydiacetylene (PDA) is chemosensor materials that exhibit non-fluorescent-to-fluorescent transition as well as blue-to-red visible color change upon chemical or thermal stress. They have been studied in forms of film or microarray chip, so far. In this paper, we provide a novel technique to fabricate continuous micro-fiber PDA sensor using in-situ laser-polymerization technique and 3-D hydrodynamic focusing on a microfluidic chip. The flow of a monomer solution with diacetylene (DA) monomer is focused by a sheath flow on a 3-D microfluidic chip. The focused flow is exposed to 365 nm UV laser beam for in-situ polymerization which generates a continuous fiber containing DA monomers. Then, the fiber is exposed to 254 nm UV light to polymerize DA monomers to PDA. Preliminary results indicate that the fiber size can be controlled by the flow rates of the monomer solution and sheath flows and that a PDA sensor fiber successively responds to chemical and thermal stress.

A photoswitch from conjugative aromatic polymers

  • By condensing two different functional monomers, highly fluorescent aromatic polymers were prepared to produce a conjugated- conjugated spacer-type copolymer or conjugated-non-conjugated spacer-type copolymer. As synthesized polymers were soluble in an organic solvent and showed significantly enhanced optical properties compared to its monomer. Variation in the monomer composition afforded polymers having multifunctionaility such as photochromic-fluorescent polymers. Transparent thin films of the polymer as a solid medium were prepared using spin coating method and fabricated as a photoswitch, which showed photo-induced conductivity switching properties depending on the core monomeric unit in the polymers.

Highly Selective Fluorescent Signaling for Al3+ in Bispyrenyl Polyether

  • A series of bispyrenyl-polyether have been synthesized and investigated as a fluorescent chemosensor for metal ions. The results showed that bispyrenyl-polyether system is selective towards Al3+ ion over other ions tested. In free ligand, excited at 343 nm, it displays a strong excimer emission at around 475 nm with a weak monomer emission at 375 nm. A ratiometry of monomer (375 nm) increase and excimer (475 nm) quenching was shown only when Al3+ ion is bound to ligand, because two facing pyrene groups form a less efficient overlap of π?π stacking compared with that of free ligand.

2-beam Coupling 방법을 이용한 광 고분자 형광 패턴 형성 (Fluorescent Pattern Generation on the Fluorescent Photopolymer with 2-beam Coupling Method)

  • 아크릴레이트계 모노머를 사용한 최적화 된 포토폴리머에 안트라센 형광폴리머를 첨가하여 형광 특성을 가지는 포토폴리머를 제조하고, 514 nm 레이저를 이용하여 2-beam coupling 방법으로 형광 포토폴리머 필름 위에 회절격자를 형성하였다. 기록 시작 후 30초 이내에 선명한 fluorescent line pattern 이 형성되었으며, 회절격자 형성 뒤, 패턴이 형성된 부분에서 형광 세기의 증가가 관찰되었다. 기록 시 간섭 빔 앞에 mask pattern 을 이용하여 $50\;{\mu}m$ gap electrode 패턴을 형성하였다. 이 때 형성된 패턴은 micron scale gap패턴 안에 회절격자로부터 생성된 submicron scale의 grating line을 보였다. 이는 beam의 광 고분자 film 표면에 대한 각도($3.6^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$), 패턴에 사용된 광 고분자의 굴절률 등으로부터 Bragg's equation 을 사용하여 계산된 이론적인 grating 간격 ($0.6\;{\mu}m$) 과 오차범위 안에서 일치 하였다.

The Effect of Cure History on the Fluorescence Behavior of an Unsaturated Polyester Resin with A Fluorescence Probe

  • We have extensively characterized the fluorescence behavior of unsaturated polyester (UP) resin in the absence and presence of a 1,3-bis-(l-pyrenyl)propane (BPP) fluorescent probe at various dynamic and isothermal cure histories by means of a steady-state fluorescence technique using a front-face illumination equipment. In addition, we explored the effect of the fluorescence intensity on the relaxation of the fluorescent probe in the UP resin by resting the dynamically and isothermally cured resin at ambient temperature and pressure for 24 h. The monomer fluorescence intensity, which has two characteristic peaks at 376 and 396nm, changed noticeably depending on the cure temperature and time and provided important information with respect to the molecular and photophysical responses upon curing. The result of the fluorescence study indicates that the increased local viscosity and restricted molecular mobility of the UP resin surrounding the BPP probe after curing are both responsible for the enhancement of the monomer fluorescence intensity. Our results also demonstrate that once the BPP probe has enough time to rearrange and become isolated prior to fluorescence, a sufficient amount of fluorescence is emitted. Therefore, we note that the fluorescence behavior of this UP resin system is influenced strongly by the relaxation process of the fluorescent probe in the resin as well as process used to cure the resin.

Effects of chlorhexidine digluconate on thickness of outer membranes isolated from Cultured Porphyromonas gingivalis

  • To get a better insight into the biophysical mechanism of action of chlorhexidine digluconate, we examined the effect of chlorhexidine digluconate on the thickness of outer membranes isolated from cultured Porphyromonas gingivalis using energy transfer between the membrane surface fluorescent probe (l-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid) and the hydrophobic fluorescent probe [1,3-di(l-pyrenyl)propane]. 1-Anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid quenches the monomer fluorescence of 1,3-di(1-pyrenyl)propane.
