  • The technology of fluidized bed to use dry sorbent can be new technology that reduce the operating cost and make efficient operation. Therefore, this study investigated $CO_2$ control by dry sorbents with operating variables in a fluidized bed, compared with fixed bed for $CO_2$ adsorption capacity and pressure drop, and presented the $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of activated carbon, molecular sieve 5A, molecular sieve 13X, and activated alumina. As the results of this study, the basic data could be achieved for operation of fluidized bed process, and fluidized bed process presented relatively high $CO_2$ adsorption capacity and low pressure drop with the increase of gas velocity. In addition, molecular sieve 5A showed 1.1~3.0-fold later breakthrough point and 1.1~2.7-fold higher adsorption capacity than the other dry sorbents.

  • To check effects of operating variables on reaction characteristics of WGS catalyst for SEWGS process, water gas shift reaction tests were carried out in a pressurized fluidized bed reactor using commercial WGS catalyst and sand(as a substitute for $CO_2$ absorbent) as bed materials. Simulated syngas(mixed with $N_2$) was used as a reactant gas. Operating temperature was $210^{\circ}C$ and operating pressure was 20 bar. WGS catalyst content, steam/CO ratio, gas velocity, and syngas concentration were considered as experimental variables. CO conversion increased as the catalyst content and steam/CO ratio increased. CO conversion at fluidized bed condition was higher than that of fixed bed condition. However, CO conversion were maintained almost same value within the fluidized bed condition. CO conversion decreased as the syngas concentration increased. The optimum operation condition was confirmed and long time water gas shift reaction test up to 24 hours at the optimum operating conditions was carried out.

  • The aerobic bacterium Xanthomonas campestris was cultivated continuously in a three-phase fluidized bed bioreactor to produce extracellular polysaccharide xanthan, Fluidized particles of 8.0 mm glass beads were used for disintegrating the large air bubbles even at high viscosities to improve the gas-liquid oxygen transfer rate. Xanthin productivity [kg xanthan/kg cell dry mass·h] and molecular weight increased, with dilution rate in the continuous xanthan fermentations. The specific xanthan productivities were not limited by the oxygen transfer rate and were much higher in the continuous cultivations than those predicted by the results of the batch xanthan fermentations.

  • It is known that the fluidized bed incinerator, which is the subject of analysis, shows excellent performance in heat and mass transfer due to excellent mixing and contact performance between fluidized sand and fuel, and also shows relatively good combustion characteristics thanks to good mixing and long residence time for low-grade fuels. have. In this study, air flow analysis is performed to understand the characteristics of co-firing of sludge, waste oil and solid waste in the fluidized bed incinerator, flow characteristics of flue gas, and discharge characteristics of pollutants. The fluidized bed incinerator subject to analysis is a facility that incinerates factory waste and general household waste together with sludge, with a processing capacity of 32 tons/day. to be. In addition, the operation method was designed for continuous operation for 24 hours. As a result, it can be seen that the lower combustion air and the introduced secondary air are changed to a strong turbulence and swirl flow form and exit through the outlet while rotating inside the freeboard layer. The homogeneous one-way flow form before reaching the secondary air nozzle has very high diffusivity with the high-speed jet flow of the nozzle.

  • Fast pyrolysis of Quercus acutissima was carried out in a fluidized bed pyrolyser and then the physicochemical properities of obtained bio-oil were analyzed using GC/MS. The yields of bio-oil of Quercus acutissima and Larix leptolepis from a fluidized bed pyrolyzer were maximized at $350^{\circ}C\;and\;400^{\circ}C$, respectively. This is due to the difference or cellulose content between the two tree species. Above the optimum temperature, the yields of char and oil decreased as the reaction temperature increased, but the yield of gas-phase and water fraction increased. It is concluded that this phenomenon is occured by secondary pyrolysis in the free board. The feeding rate of the sample in a fluidized bed pyrolyser did not affect the yields and composition of products, because of a sufficient mixing between bed materials and sand.

  • In a fixed bed reactor, adsorption capacity of $SO_2$ in simulated flue gases was investigated with NMO(natural manganese ore), composed of various metal oxides, iron ore and $CuO/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ as adsorbents. The experiment carried out in a fluidized bed reactor with variables such as gas velocity, temperature and particle size. Iron ore was excluded in the fluidized bed reactor experiment for the lower adsorption capacity. The adsorption of $SO_2$ in metal oxide is a typical chemisorption because the adsorption capacity of all adsorbents increased with temperature. The effect of particle size on the adsorption capacity was varied with the ratio, $U_o/U_{mf}$ and the difference of $U_o-U_{mf}$. $U_o$ is the gas velocity, $U_{mf}$ is the minimum fluidization gas velocity. $U_o/U_{mf}$ and $U_o-U_{mf}$ explain the behavior of the gas and solids in the fluidized bed reactor. From the performance equation of the fluidized bed reactor, kinetic reaction rate constants were obtained by the non-linear least square method. The adsorption capacity of NMO proved the potential use of $SO_2$ adsorbents.

  • The behavior of bubbles in a centrifugal fluidized bed with a 340mm inner diameter, 195mm high was observed by photographs using 10.5${\mu}m$and 21.5${\mu}m$mean diameter of $Al_2O_3$particles as bed materials at each of 400rpm, 600rpm, 800rpm, and 1000rpm number of rotations of the rotor. At these experimental ranges, the experimental results clearly proved the effect of number of rotations of the rotor on the behavior of bubbles in the centrifugal fluidized bed. As the number of rotations of the rotor increased, the gas velocity at which bubbles begin to be formed also increased but diameter of bubbles decreased. And sizes of the bubbles were relatively small.

  • Wood fuel must be dried before combustion to minimize the energy loss. Sawdust of Japanese red pine was dried in a batch type fluidized-bed to investigate the drying characteristics of sawdust as a raw material for bio-fuel. The minimum fluidization air velocity was increased as particle size was increased. It took about 21 minutes and 8 minutes to dry 0.08 m-deep bed of particles with average particle size of 1.3 mm from 100% to 10% moisture content at air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • To remove the low concentration of methane biologically, a three phase fluidized bed bioreactor immobilized with Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b was used. Optimum pH, temperature and bed height for the operation were pH7.0, 30$^\circ C$ and 150cm, respectively. For the inlet methane concentration of 100-400ppm and flow rate of 2-4L/min, the removal efficiencies of the bioreactor using the activated carbon as a carrier were the range of 54-71%, whereas those using the biosand were the range of 45-56%. It was found that activated carbon was more efficient than the biosand for the removal of methane. When aeration tank was equipped with the bioreactor, the removal efficiency increased to 6-13% and maximum removal rate obtained in the experiment was 1184mg.CH$_4$/min.

  • This study investigated the characteristics of co-combustion of mixed anthracite (domestic and Vietnam) and bituminous coal (Sonoma, Australia) at circulating fluidized bed boiler in Donghae thermal power plant when mixing ratio of bituminous coal is variable. Co-combustion of bituminous coal contributes to improvement in general combustion characteristics such as moderately retaining temperature of furnace and recycle loop, reducing unburned carbon powder, and reducing discharge concentration of NOx and limestone supply owing to improvement in anthracite combustibility as the mixing ratio was increased. However, bed materials were needed to be added externally when the mixing ratio exceeded 40% because of reduction in generating bed materials based on reduction in ash production. When co-combustion was conducted in the section of 40 to 60% in the mixing ratio while the supplied particles of bituminous coal was increased from 6 mm to 10 mm, continuous operation was shown to be possible with upper differential pressure of 100 mmH2O (0.98 kPa) and more without addition of bed materials for the co-combustion of mixed anthracite and bituminous coal (to 50% or less of the ratio) and that of domestic coal and bituminous coal (to 60% of the ratio).
