  • The vibrational system of this study consists of a cantilever pipe conveying fluid, the moving masses upon it and having an attached tip mass. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the velocity and the inertia force of the moving mass and the velocities of fluid flow in the pipe have been studied on the dynamic behavior and the natural frequency of a cantilever pipe by numerical method. The deflection of the cantilever pipe conveying fluid is increased due to the tip mass and rotary Inertia. After the moving mass passed upon the cantilever pipe, the amplitude of pipe is influenced by energy variation when the moving mass fall from the cantilever pipe. As the moving mass increase, the frequency of the cantilever pipe conveying fluid is increased. The rotary inertia of the tip mass influences much on the higher frequencies and vibration mode.

  • A Flapping foil Produces an effective angle of attack, resulting in a normal force vector with thrust and lift components, and it can be expected to be a new highly effective propulsion system. A heaving foil model was made and it was operated within a circulating water channel at low Reynolds numbers. The unsteady thrust and lift acting on the heaving foil were measured simultaneously using a 6-axis force sensor based on force and moment detectors. We have been examined various conditions such as heaving frequency and amplitude in NACA 0010 Profile. The results showed that thrust coefficient and efficiency increased with reduced frequency and amplitude. We also Presented the experimental results on the unsteady fluid forces of a heaving foil at various Parameters.

  • This paper presents force-feedback control performance of a haptic device in virtual environment of minimally invasive surgery(MIS). As a first step, based on an electrorheological(ER) fluid and spherical geometry, a new type of master device is developed and integrated with a virtual environment of MIS such as a surgical tool and human organ. The virtual object is then mathematically formulated by adopting the shape retaining chain linked(S-Chain) model. After evaluating reflection force, computational time, and compatibility with real time control, the virtual environment of MIS is formulated by interactivity with the ER haptic device in real space. Tracking control performances for virtual force trajectory are presented in time domain, and theirtrackingerrorsareevaluated.

  • In the present study, a robust controller has been designed to control force for a pneumatic driving system considering the effect of a transmission line. Transfer characteristics of pneumatic transmission line should be changed according to the velocity of the air going through the transmission line. The designed controller is composed of two parts. The one is a feedback controller, which is composed of a stabilizing filter, a compensating filter of modelling error and a nominal model of the force control system, to compensate the influence of transmission line and improve the feedback characteristics of the control system, and, the other is a feedforward controller to achieve the control performance. Control results with the designed controller show that the robustness and performance of the control system are improved compared to the control results with a fixed gain controller.

  • This paper presents the results of the study on the novel micro mixer. Existing micro mixer is classified as active mixing and passive mixing by the mixing principles. Both mixing principles have problems. For solving these problems, this research has developed the novel micro mixers based on a totally different principle compared with former mixers. They not only have a simpler structure than former ones but also are able to achieve high mixing efficiency in spite of low power consumption due to using Lorentz Force. In addition, they are designed to increase the efficiency of mixing by changing the rotating direction of fluid with a polar switching circuit. Driving forces of the mixer are Lorentz force and a moving force of fluid due to electrophoresis. Because the efficiency of mixer is affected by electrode shape, several models have been made. The computer simulation has been made to estimate the efficiency of each mixer.

  • The results of flow feature around two circular cylinders in various arrangements are carried out using two-dimensional simulation at Reynolds number of 200. In this work, time-averaged fluid force acting on the upstream and downstream cylinders were calculated for staggered angle ${\alpha}=0{\sim}90^{\circ}$ in the range of L/D = 1.1~5, where ${\alpha}$ is the angle between the free-stream flow and the line connecting the centers of the cylinders, L is centre-to-centre distance and D is cylinder diameter. The dependence of magnitudes and trends of fluid force coefficient on the spacing ratio L/D and ${\alpha}$ are discussed. In all arrangements of two cylinders, tandem arrangement (${\alpha}=0^{\circ}$) is the case produced a minimum drag coefficient for downstream cylinder. Moreover, the locations of separation and stagnation points or pressure coefficient on surface of the cylinder were examined. • A numerical method for simulating tree surface flows including the surface tension is presented. Numerical scheme is based an a fractional-step method with a finite volume formulation and the interface between liquid and gas is tracked by Volume of Fluid (VOF) method. Piecewise Linear Interface Calculation (PLIC) method is used to reconstruct the interface and the surface tension is considered using a Continuum Surface Force (CSF) model. Several free surface flow phenomena were simulated to show its effectiveness to find such phenomena.

  • Piston seal is a device designed to prevent leakage in split connecctions or between relatively moving part. Contact force, critical pressure at which extrusion occurs, leakage rate, fluid film thickness and friction force have been analyzed for some design parameter such as clearance between cylinder wall piston, depth of rectangular groove and pressure of sealed hydraulic fluid. In this paper, we analyze displacement and stress of Wearing by finite element analysis to understand Contact Behaviour Characters.

  • Magnetic fluid is a very stable colloid that is attracted by magnetic force as wholly. The magnetic fluids is composed with 10 nm magnetic materials such as magnetite, iron etc., which is dispersed homogeneously in solvent by coating surfactant on their surface. Also this colloid is not separated into magnetic particles and solvent even under magnetic field, centrifugal force, gravity. Due to these properties, the magnetic fluids is used in high vacuum seal, exclusion seal, damper, etc. I would like to introduce the specific properties and applications of the magnetic fluids.
