This study is concerned in manufacturing cell formation with operation sequences. Operation sequences must be reflected for manufacturing cell formation anyway, because the primary aim of cellular manufacturing system is to minimize the inter-cell flows, and inter-cell flows are differed by operation sequences. In this study we propose flow-similarity(FS) of reflecting both inter-machine similarity and direct/indirect flow, and then apply the modified P-median model for grouping machines. We also use machine cell-part handling frequency(CPH) so as to be assigned parts to the machine cells having the most CPH. We confirm this approach through an application example. The performance of this approach(FS-model) is evaluated and compared with P-median model and F-model through computational experiments.
The HANARO, a multi-purpose research reactor of 30 MWth open-tank-in-pool type, has been under normal operation since its initial criticality in February, 1995. Many experiments should be safely performed to activate the utilization of the HANARO. HANARO flow simulation facility is being developed for the endurance test of reactivity control units for extended life time and the verification of structural integrity of those experimental equipments prior to loading in the HANARO. This facility is composed of three major parts; a half-core structure assembly, a flow circulation system and a support system. The flow circulation system is composed of a circulation pump, a core flow piping, a core bypass flow piping and instruments. The system is to be filled with de-mineralized water and the flow should be met the design requirements to simulate a similar flow characteristics in the core channel of the half-core structure assembly to the HANARO. This paper, therefore, presents an analytical analysis to study the flow behavior of the system. Computational flow analysis has been performed for the verification of system pressure variation through the three-dimensional analysis program with the standard $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and for the verification of the structural piping integrity through the finite element method. According to the analysis results, it could be said that the design requirements and the structural piping integrity of the flow circulation system are satisfied.
Phosphorus (P) is an essential nutrient for all living organisms. P is mostly obtained from mined rock phosphate. However, existing rock phosphate reserves could be exhausted in the next 50-100 years. As Korea is totally dependent on imported rock phosphate, we should seek for solution to overcome the P depletion by efficient use and recycling. For this, this study suggested a P flow model to identify the location and flow route of P in urban area based on traditional material flow analysis. The type of P entering the urban areas are fertilizer, food and feed. Each type of P is used in agriculture, human consumption and animal husbandry. After going through each process, P is moved to waste management facilities within food waste, excreta and sewage. Some portion of P in waste are buried, incinerated and discharged, which can be reservoir of P in the future.
The object of this study is to develop the computer program to predict the transmission loss of a perforated tube muffler with mean flow, and to investigate the influence of porosity and mean flow on the performance of the muffler. The numerical model is made by dividing the muffler into small segments and estimating the transfer matrices for each segment. The computer program is developed for the calculation of the transmission loss of a through-or cross-flow perforated muffler. The experiment is performed for the measurement of the transmission loss and/or the pressure drop for various porosity and flow velocity. From the comparison between computation and experiment, is known that the numerical model agrees well with the experimental result. The effect of porosity and flow velocity on the acoustic performance and the flow resistance of a muffler is presented.
This study presents the theoretical approach for volume concentration, velocity profile, and granular discharge on the fluid-granule mixed flow downstream of the scour hole at the outlet of the hydraulic structure. Concept of dilatant model was applied for the stress-strain relationships of fluid-granule mixed flow since the flow downstream of the scour hole corresponds to debris flow, where momentum transfers through particle collisions. Mathematical formulations were derived using momentum equation and stress-strain relation of the fluid-granule mixture. Velocity profile under the assumption of uniform concentration over flowing layer showed the downward convex type. Deposition angle of downstream hump was found to be a function of an upstream slope angle, a dynamic friction angle and a volume concentration irrespective of flow itself, Granular discharge and the overflow depth were obtained with given values of inflow rates. Experimental results showed relatively good agreements with theoretical ones.

A preconditioned numerical method for gas-liquid to-phase flow is applied to solve cavitating flow. The present method employs a density based finite-difference method of dual time-stepping integration procedure and Roe's flux difference splitting approximation with MUSCL-TVD scheme. A homogeneous equilibrium cavitation model is used. The method permits simple treatment of the whole gas-liquid two-phase flow field including wave propagation, large density changes and incompressible flow characteristics at low Mach number. By this method, two-dimensional internal flows through a venturi tuve and decelerating cascades are computed and discussed.
In this paper, flow-induced flutter instability of a cantilever carbon nanotube conveying fluid and modelled as a thin-walled beam is investigated. Analytically nonlocal effect, transverse shear and rotary inertia are incorporated in this study. The governing equations and the boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's principle. Numerical analysis is performed by using extended Galerkin method which enables us to obtain more exact solutions compared with conventional Galerkin method. Variation of critical flow velocity of carbon nanopipes based on three different models such as analytically nonlocal model, partially nonlocal model, and local model are investigated and pertinent conclusion is outlined.
In this study, the variation of the flow field in Hydro-reactive engine combustor was numerically studied through 2-dimensional axisymmetric model with aluminum and heated water vapor. For calculating all velocity fields, compressible Navier-Stokes equation was used with Pre-conditioning. AUSM+up(p) method was used to exactly calculate mass flow in the control volume. As using SST model that is a turbulent model, the result had high accuracy for free stream and the flow near the wall. The effects of the temperature, variation of the flow field and distribution of chemical products on inject angle of heated water vapor were studied.
Three-dimensional flow analysis is implemented to investigate the flow through transonic axial-flow compressor rotor(NASA R67), and to evaluate the performances of k-$\epsilon$ and Baldwin-Lomax turbulence models. A finite volume method is used for spatial discretization. And, the equations are solved implicitly in time with the use of approximate factorization. Upwind difference scheme is used for inviscid terms, but viscous terms are centrally differenced. The flux-difference-splitting of Roe is used to obtain fluxes at the cell faces. Numerical analysis is performed near peak efficiency and near stall. And, the results are compared with the experimental data for NASA R67 rotor. Blade-to-Blade Mach number distributions are compared to confirm the accuracy of the code. From the results, we conclude that k-$\epsilon$ model is better for the calculation of flow rate and efficiency than Baldwin-Lomax model. But, the predictions for Mach number and shock structure are almost same.
This paper describes a simulation model and a scaled hardware model to analyze the dynamic performance of Unified Power Flow Controller, which can flexibly adjust the active power flow through the ac transmission line. The design of control system for UPFC was developed using vector control method. The results of simulation and scaled hardware test show that the developed control system works accurately. Both models would be very effective for analyzing the dynamic performance of the Unified Power Flow Controller.
