  • In this paper, characteristics of a port injection type LPG fuel system were investigated to adopt the system to a spark ignition engine through rig test. Engine combustion characteristics for limited conditions and the precise control method of LPG fuel supply were also studied. As a basic experiment, the effects and the relationships of parameters such as orifice area, fuel delivery pressure, fuel temperature and flow coefficient were established. From this, one dimensional compressible flow equation can be applied to control gaseous fuel flow rate by setting pressure difference between vaporizer and manifold to a certain range, for example about 1.2 bar in a naturally aspirated engine. The combustion analysis results of LPG engine were also compared with those of gasoline engine according to spark timing and load change. At part load and stoichiometric condition, the MBT spark timing of LPG fueled engine is retarded by 2$^{\circ}$ - 4$^{\circ}$CA compared to that of gasoline engine. On the contrary, the spark timing of LPG fueled engine can be advanced by 5$^{\circ}$- 10$^{\circ}$ CA at WOT, which results from higher Octane Number and burned fraction of LPG fuel compared to gasoline.

  • A method to determine quinine in aqueous solution by chemiluminescence method using a stopped flow system has been studied. The method is based on the increased chemiluminescence intensity with the addition of quinine to a solution of lucigenin and hydrogen peroxide. The effects of KOH concentration, flow rate of reagents, $H_{2}O_{2}$ concentration used for the masking of quinine on the chemiluminescence intensity have been investigated. The calibration curve for quinine was linear over the range from $1.0{\times}10^{-7}$ M to $1.0{\times}10^{-3}$ M, coefficient of correlation was 0.993 and the detection limit was $3.0{\times}10^{-8}$ M under the optimal experimental conditions of 1.0 M, 1.5 M, 3.0 mL/min for the concentration of $H_{2}O_{2}$, KOH and flow rate of reagents, respectively.

  • A small-scale thermoelectric cooling system was built in an effort to enhance the performance of the refrigeration system by utilizing the water-cooled jacket which was attached to the hot side of the thermoelectric module. Considered design parameters for the water-cooled jacket were the geometry of the flow passage inside the jacket and the flow rate of cooling water. The higher flow rate of cooling water in the jacket resulted in a better performance of the refrigeration system. The increase in the number of channels for water flow passage inside the cooling jacket also showed significant improvement on the performance of the thermoelectric cooling system such as the cooling capacity and the COP of the refrigeration system.

  • This study presents experimental results on the heat transfer coefficients in the film boiling region of spray cooling for actual metallurgical process. In this study, the heat flux distributions of a two dimensional dilute spray impinging on a hot plate were experimentally investigated. A stainless steel block was cooled down from intial temperature of about $800^{\circ}C$ by twin fluid (air-water) flat spray. It was found from the experimental results that the heat transfer area was classified into the stagnation region and wall-flow region. In the stagnation region, the experimental data of local heat transfer coefficient was closely correlated with the local droplet-flow-rate supplied from the spray nozzle directly. Thus, the local heat transfer coefficients are in good agreement with the predicted values from the correlations proposed by our previous study. In wall-flow region, however, remarkable differences are observed between experimental data and predicted values because the number of rebound droplets increase with increasing the distance from the stagnation point.

  • The performance experiments for a microchannel printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) of high-performance and high-efficiency on the two technologies of micro photo-etching and diffusion bonding were performed in this study. The microchannel PCHE were experimentally investigated for Reynolds number in ranges of 100 $\sim$ 700 under various flow conditions in the hot side and the cold side. The inlet temperatures of the hot side were conducted in range of $40^{\circ}C\;{\sim}\;50^{\circ}C$ while that of the cold-side were fixed at $20^{\circ}C$. In the flow pattern, the counter flow was provided 6.8% and 10 $\sim$ 15% higher average heat transfer rate and heat transfer performance than the parallel flow, respectively. The average heat transfer rate, heat transfer performance and pressure drop increases with increasing Reynolds number in all the experiment. The increasing of inlet temperature in the experiment range has not an effect on the heat transfer performance while the pressure drop decrease slightly with that of inlet temperature. The experimental correlations to the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop factor as a function of the Reynolds number have been suggested for the microchannel PCHE.

  • A simple model to analyze non-linear density-wave instability in a sodium-cooled helically coiled steam generator is developed. The model is formulated with three regions with moving boundaries. The homogeneous equilibrium flow model is used for the two-phase region and the shell-side energy conservation is also considered for the heat flux variation in each region. The proposed model is applied to the analysis of two-phase instability in a JAEA (Japan Atomic Energy Agency) 50MWt No.2 steam generator. The steady state results show that the proposed model accurately predicts the six cases of operating temperatures on the primary and secondary sides. The sizes of three regions, the secondary side pressure drop according to the flow rate, and the temperature variation in the vertical direction are also predicted well. The temporal variations of the inlet flow rate according to the throttling coefficient, the boiling and superheating boundaries and the pressure drop in the two-phase and superheating regions are obtained from the unsteady analysis.

  • The standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ models are adopted to improve the prediction performance on the recirculating flow. In this paper, the backward facing step flows are used to assess the prediction performance of the recirculation zone. The model constants of turbulence model are obtained by the experimental results and they have a different value according to the flow. In the case of an isotropic flow situation, decaying of turbulent kinetic energy should follow a power law behavior. In accordance with the power law, the coefficients for the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy are not universal. Also, the other coefficients as well as the dissipation coefficient are not constant. As a result, a suitable coefficients can be varied according to each of the flow. The changes of flow over the backward facing step in accordance with model constants of the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ models show that the reattachment length is dependent on the growth rate(${\lambda}$) and the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ models can be improved the prediction performance by changing the model constants about the recirculating flow. In addition, it was investigated for the curvature correction effect of the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ models in the recirculating flow. Overall, the curvature corrected ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ models showed an excellent prediction performance.

  • This work developed improved slip factor model and correction method to predict flow through impeller in forward-curved centrifugal fan. Both steady and unsteady three-dimensional CFD analyses were performed to validate the slip factor model and the correction method. The results show that the improved slip factor model presented in this paper could provide more accurate predictions for forward-curved centrifugal impeller than the other slip factor models since the present model takes into account the effect of blade curvature. The correction method is provided to predict mass-averaged absolute circumferential velocity at the exit of impeller by taking account of blockage effects induced by the large-scale backflow near the front plate and flow separation within blade passage. The comparison with CFD results also shows that the improved slip factor model coupled with the present correction method provides accurate predictions for mass-averaged absolute circumferential velocity at the exit of impeller near and above the flow rate of peak total pressure coefficient.

  • The commercial viability of heat exchanger is mainly dependent on their long-term fouling characteristics because the fouling increases the pressure loss and degrades the thermal Performance of a heat exchanger. An experimental study was performed to investigate the characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer in a fluidized bed heat exchanger with circulating various solid particles. The Present work showed that the flow velocity range for Possible collision between the tube wall and the particles was higher with heavier density solid particles. in audition. the solid particle periodically hitting the tube wall broke the thermal boundary laver. and increased the rate of heat transfer.

  • The one-third calibrating relation by steady solution can cause large error when applied to an unsteady flow with large amplitude waves. Extended calibrating method, which can treat the normal convective contribution, is developed. The normal mass convective term is included into the 2-D mass transport equation by means of rms value and random function. The unknown shear rate is numerically determined by solving the 2-D mass transport equation inversely. This recovery method which predicts the unknown shear rate is constructed. It is found that it works very well without distortion. The inclusion of the normal convective term has a negligible effect on the mass transfer coefficient.
