A sweeping jet actuator (SJA) is an instrument generating pulsing jets with no moving elements. Because of its simple design and high durability to shock and vibration, SJA has recently drawn increasing attention for the application to flow control such as aerodynamic control of a wing and thrust vectoring of a jet engine. However, experimental and numerical studies on SJA have been limited to internal flow structure of SJA. In this study, we investigated the flow structure and its variation in the outlet of SJA. We carried out the experiment to understand the flow structures using PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). The flow structure varies with a degree of the outlet and volume flow rate. There is leaking process during half jetting cycle. The process of the main jet can occur because the jet moving time increased from one side to the other side.
This work investigates Reynolds number Re (= 50 - 200) effects on the flows around a single cylinder and the two tandem (center-to-center spacing L⁎= L/D = 4) cylinders, each of a diameter D. Vorticity structures, Strouhal numbers, and time-mean and fluctuating forces are presented and discussed. For the single cylinder, with increasing Re in the range examined, the vorticity magnitude, Strouhal number and fluctuating lift all monotonically rise but time-mean drag, vortex formation length, and lateral distance between the two rows of vortices all shrink. For the two tandem cylinders, the increase in Re leads to the formation of three distinct flows, namely reattachment flow (50 ≤ Re ≤ 75), transition flow (75 < Re < 100), and coshedding flow (100 ≤ Re ≤ 200). The reattachment flow at Re = 50 is steady. When Re is increased from 75 to 200, the Strouhal number of the two cylinders, jumping from 0.113 to 0.15 in the transition flow regime, swells to 0.188. The two-cylinder flow is more sensitive to Re than the single cylinder flow. Fluctuating lift is greater for the downstream cylinder than the upstream cylinder while time-mean drag is higher for the upstream cylinder than for the other. The time-mean drags of the upstream cylinder and single cylinder behaves similar to each other, both declining with increasing Re.
The purpose of this study is to present a method that can estimate the height of reaction facilities for large structural experiment through load flow as primary design procedure. The characteristic of the load transmission according to the type of experiment was analyzed to obtain tensile and compressive forces occurring on the reaction facilities. Strong walls that are affected by the bending moment is applied the post-tensioning method, and the strong floor under the control of the tension and compression is designed in accordance with the load flow. And the optimum cross-section of the reaction facilities was obtained by comparing the stresses of the tensile stress and crack the concrete. Through validating elastic analysis, the design results were satisfied a given design conditions.
Wind load is known to be one of major forces to influence the stability of agricultural structures. General flow fields were calculated to determine flow characteristics over the envelop of the following three types of greenhouses with arched roof : single span, twin span greenhouses, and two single span greenhouses apart 3m inbetween. Pressure coefficients along the envelop of greenhouse were numerically calculated by the k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model, which lead to determine wind forces on it. Curvilinear coordinate for an arched roof and the upwind scheme were adopted for the study. The calculated pressure coefficients were validated with the avaliable data of Japanese Standard and NGAM Standard. The Magnitude of calculated forces over the envelop was not in good accordance with data except the windward wall. Even tile data of Japanese and NGAM Standard for validation deviated a lot from each other in quantity and quality. Such discrepancy may be attributed to different geometric and/or flow configuration conditions for experiments, or the insenstivity of the k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model to recirculation flow.
The flow characteristics of a circular cylinder surrounded by an outer permeable cylinder were experimentally investigated using Particle Image Velocimetry Technique in deep water flow. In order to consider the effects of diameter and porosity of the outer cylinder on flow structures of the inner cylinder, five different outer cylinder diameters (D=37.5, 52.5, 60, 75 and 90 mm) and eight different porosities (${\beta}$=0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.65, 0.7, 0.75, 0.8 and 0.85) were selected. During the experiments, the diameter of inner cylinder was kept constant as d=30 mm. The depth-averaged free-stream velocity was adjusted as U=0.156 m/s, which corresponds to the Reynolds number of Re=5000 based on the inner cylinder diameter. It has been concluded that both the outer permeable cylinder diameter and the porosity have important influences on the attenuation of vortex shedding in the wake region. The presence of outer permeable cylinder decreases the magnitude of Reynolds shear stress and turbulent kinetic energy compared to the bare cylinder case. Moreover, the spectral analysis of vortex shedding frequency has revealed that the dominant frequency of vortex shedding downstream of the cylinder arrangement also reduces substantially due to the weakened Karman shear layer instability.

This paper proposes reconfigurable hardware structures for spreading and scrambling of multi-mode CDMA systems. The proposed reconfigurable structures supporting IS-95, cdma2000 and WCDMA, include a pseudo noise code generator, a channelization code generator and a control circuit for signal flow control. The proposed reconfigurable structures provide an efficient hardware usage for multi-mode CDMA systems. The synthesis results show the area reduction about 24.7% compared with the original code generators. The proposed structures can provide efficient reconfigurability and high speed operations for future SDR systems.

Global Warming has been driven majorly by the consumption of fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from wind is viable solution towards reducing carbon footprint created due to burning such fuels, However, wind turbines have their problems of flow separation and aerodynamic stall to tackle with. In an attempt to delay the stall angle and improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the NACA 0015 symmetrical aerofoil, lateral cylindrical ridges were attached to its suction surface, at chord positions ranging from 0.1c to 0.5c. The characteristics of the original and ridged aerofoils were obtained using simultaneous pressure readings taken in a wind tunnel, at a free stream Reynolds number of Re = 2.81 × 105 for a wide range of free stream angles of attack ranging from -45° to 45°. Depending on the ridge size, a delay in stall angle varying from 5° to 20° was achieved together with the maximum increase in lift in the post-stall phases. Additionally, efforts were made to identify the optimum position for each ridge.

The passive control methods such as horizontal and vertical fences on the lower surface of the bluff body were applied to suppress the vortex shedding and enhance the aerodynamic stability of flow. For investigating the effects of the passive control methods, wind tunnel experiments on the unsteady flow field around a bluff body near a moving ground were performed. The boundary layer and velocity profiles were measured by the Hot Wire Anemometer (HWA) system and the vortex shedding patterns and flow structures in a wake region were visualized via the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system. Also, it is a measuring on moving ground condition that the experimental values of the critical gap distances, Strouhal numbers and aerodynamic force FFT analyses. Through the experiments, we found that the momentum supply due to moving ground caused the vortex shedding at the lower critical gap distance rather than that of fixed ground. The horizontal and vertical fences increase the critical gap distance and it can suppress the vortex shedding. Consequently, the stability characteristics of the bluff body near a moving ground could be effectively enhanced by the simple passive control such as the vertical fences.
The accurate permeability for preform is critical to model and design the impregnation of fluid resin in the composite manufacturing process. In this study, the in-plane and transverse permeability for a woven fabric are predicted numerically through the coupled flow model which combines microscopic with macroscopic flow. The microscopic and macroscopic flow which are flows within the micro-unit and macro-unit cell, respectively, are calculated by using 3-D CVFEM(control volume finite element method). To avoid checker-board pressure field and improve the efficiency on numerical computation, A new interpolation function for velocity is proposed on the basis of analytic solutions. The permeability of plain woven fabric is measured through unidirectional flow experiment and compared with the permeability calculated numerically. Based on the good agreement of the results, the relationships between the permeability and the structures of preform such as the fiber volume fraction and stacking effect can be understood. The reverse and the simple stacking are taken in account. Unlike past literatures, this study is based on more realistic unit cell and the improved prediction of permeability can be achieved. It is observed that in-plane flow is more dominant than transverse flow in the real flow through preform and the stacking effect of multi-layered preform is negligible. Consequently, the proposed coupled flow model can be applied to modeling of real composite materials processing.
A numerical investigation on forces and flow around three square cylinders in side-by-side arrangement is conducted at a Reynolds number Re = 150 with the cylinder center-to-center spacing ratio L/W = 1.1 ~ 9.0, where W is the cylinder side width. The flowat this Re is assumed to be two-dimensional, incompressible, and Newtonian. The flow simulation is conducted by using ANSYS-Fluent. The flow around the three side-by-side cylinders entails some novel flow physics, involving the interaction between the gap and free-stream side flows as well as that between the two gap flows. An increase in L/W from 1.1 to 9.0 leads to five distinct flow regimes, viz., base-bleed flow (L/W < 1.4), flip-flopping flow (1.4 < L/W < 2.1), symmetrically biased beat flow (2.1 < L/W < 2.6), non-biased beat flow (2.6 < L/W < 7.25) and weak interaction flow (7.25 < L/W < 9.0). The gap flow behaviors, time-averaged and fluctuating fluid forces, time-averaged pressure, recirculation bubble, formation length, and wake width in each flow regime are discussed in detail.
