  • Formation and transportation of $CO_2$-hydrate slurry was conducted by circulating saturated water with $CO_2$ through a double-tube type heat exchanger which was cooled down by brine. The inner diameter and circulation length of the heat exchanger were 1 inch and 20 m, respectively. Water in tank was supersaturated by injected $CO_2$ and the operation pressure was maintained at 3,000 to 4,000 kPa with fluid-temperature of less than $9^{\circ}C$. $CO_2$ hydrate mass fraction was calculated based on density of $CO_2$-hydrate slurry mixture. Results showed that the $CO_2$-hydrate slurry could be circulated without blockage for 1 hr. Circulation status of the $CO_2$-hydrate slurry was also visualized.

  • Given the rapid progress made in understanding the dynamics of an offshore floating body in an ocean environment, the present study aimed to simulate ocean waves in a small-sized wave flume and to observe the motion of a cylindrical floating body placed in an offshore environment. To generate regular ocean waves in a wave flume, we combined a wave generator and a wave absorber. In addition, to precisely visualise the oscillation of the body, a set of light-emitting diode illuminators and a high-speed charge-coupled device camera were installed in the flume. This study also focuses on the spectral analysis of the movement of the floating body. The wave generator and absorbers worked well to simulate stable regular waves. In addition, the simulated waves agreed well with the plane waves predicted by shallow-water theory. As the period of the oncoming waves changed, the movement of the floating body was substantially different when tethered to a tension-leg mooring cable. In particular, when connected to the tension-leg mooring cable, the natural frequency of the floating body appeared suddenly at 0.391 Hz as the wave period increased.

  • Sound intensity method is well known as a visualization technique of sound field or sound propagation in noise control. Sound intensity or energy flux is a vector quantity which describes the amount and the direction of net flow of acoustic energy at a given position. Especially two dimensional sound intensity method is very useful in evaluating periodic characteristics and acoustic propagation mode of noise source. In this paper, we have studied the noise source Identification, acoustic sound field analysis, and characteristics of noise source of rotary compressor and scroll compressor for air conditioner using complex sound intensity method. Also we proposed a now method of time domain analysis which is used in evaluating of position of noise source in rotary and scroll compressor in this paper This paper presents the advantage, simplicity and economical efficiency of this method by analysing the characteristics of noise source with two dimensional complex sound intensity simultaneously.

  • This paper describes the design and analysis of a periscope imaging system installed at the engine test facility in the Agency for Defense Development. The periscope system is a cylinder-shaped image observation system installed at the rear of the engine and at the top of the diffuser. The periscope system has high risk of breaking because it is directly affected by high temperature (2300 K) and products of combustion. Thus, we used 1D heat transfer calculation, and 2D and 3D CFD analysis to confirm the heat flux and temperature distribution. Also, the cooling performance was verified. In the current design, using the periscope system, we can see flame shapes, control of the nozzle, and stability of the exhaust flow visually.

  • Stealthy, high maneuverability and super cruise abilities are required for the next generation fighter and unmanned aircraft. Thrust vector control technique currently come into use to meet these requirements. In this experimental study, axial and pitch thrust were measured and Schlieren visualization were carried out using the scaled two dimensional thrust vector nozzles under various pitch deflection angle, pitch flap length and height. From the study, we could get the supersonic flow characteristics and draw an optimum geometric configuration of the two dimensional thrust vector nozzle.

  • Sokkuram grotto, a UNESCO cultural heritage in Kyongju Korea, was originally covered with crushed rocks over its dome with ventilating holes. The grotto was perfectly preserved for more than 12 centuries until the upper structure was replaced with a concrete dome in the early 20th century to protect from total collapse. Since then, heavy dew formed on the granite surface to seriously damage the sculptures until it was further remodeled with air-conditioning facilities in the 60s. It is considered that the original upper porous structure had a dehumidifying capability. This research is made to unveil the dehumidifying mechanism of the rock layer during the rainy season in that area. A rock layer and a concrete layer are tested in a temperature/humidity-controlled room. No dew formation is observed for the two specimen for continued sunny days or continued rainy days. However, heavy dew formed on the concrete surface for a sunny day after long rainy days. It is thought that the sun evaporates water on the ground and dew is formed at the surface as the highly humid air touches the yet cold concrete. On the contrary, no dew formation is observed for the rock layer at any time. Even in the above worst situation, air flows downward through the cool rock layer and moisture is removed before reaching inside. Temperature measurement, flow visualization, observation of dew formation and measurement of air velocity are made to verify the mechanisms.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a model that can systematically study the whole learning process of machine learning. Since the existing model describes the learning process with minimum coding, it can learn the progress of machine learning sequentially through the new model, and can visualize each process using the tensor flow. The new model used all of the existing model algorithms and confirmed the importance of the variables that affect the target variable, survival. The used to classification training data into training and verification, and to evaluate the performance of the model with test data. As a result of the final analysis, the ensemble techniques is the all tutorial model showed high performance, and the maximum performance of the model was improved by maximum 5.2% when compared with the existing model using. In future research, it is necessary to construct an environment in which machine learning can be learned regardless of the data preprocessing method and OS that can learn a model that is better than the existing performance.

  • Public bicycle system (PBS) is a new emerging and popular mode of public transportation. PBS data can be adopted to analyze human movement patterns. Previous work usually focused on specific scales, and the relationships between different levels of hierarchies are ignored. In this paper, we introduce a multi-scale and interactive visual analytics system to investigate human cycling movement and PBS usage condition. The system supports level-of-detail explorative analysis of spatio-temporal characteristics in PBS. Visual views are designed from global, regional and microcosmic scales. For the regional scale, a bicycle network is constructed to model PBS data, and an flow-based community detection algorithm is applied on the bicycle network to determine station clusters. In contrast to the previous used Louvain algorithm, our method avoids producing super-communities and generates better results. We provide two cases to demonstrate how our system can help analysts explore the overall cycling condition in the city and spatio-temporal aggregation of stations.

  • Control of horseshoe vortex in the circular cylinder-plate juncture using vortex generator (VG) was studied at $Re_D$(where D is the diameter of the cylinder) = $2.05{\times}10^5$. Impact of a number of parameters e.g., the shape of the VG's, number of VG pairs (n), spacing between the VG and the cylinder leading edge (L), lateral gap between the trailing edges of a VG pair (g), streamwise gap between two VG pairs ($S_{VG}$) and the spacing between the two VG's in parallel arrangement ($Z_{VG}$) etc. were investigated on the horseshoe vortex control. The study is conducted using surface oil flow visualization and surface pressure measurements in low speed wind tunnel. It is observed that all the parameters studied have significant control effect, either by reduction in separation region or by lowering the adverse pressure along the symmetric axis upstream of the juncture.

  • In this study, the spray atomization characteristics of urea injector used in SCR system for construction machinery was analyzed, and the uniformity index at the front of mixer and NOx conversion efficiency were evaluated through numerical analysis. Spray visualization and droplet size/velocity measurement were performed and the measured results were used to verify the spray analysis model to calculate the uniformity index in the exhaust gas after-treatment system. For the flow analysis, STAR-CCM, a three-dimensional CFD, was used and the uniformity index of the SCR system at the front of the mixer was calculated using the droplet dissociation model and the wall collision model. Finally, the DeNOx performance for the average condition of the NRTC driving mode was calculated to understand the NOx conversion efficiency reflecting the exhaust gas temperature. The simulation results show that the uniformity index at the front of mixer was calculated as 0.862 and DeNOx efficiency was 75.9%.
