When there is a spray flow such as from a pesticide nozzle, winds affect the droplet flow of a rotary-wing drone accompanied by a strong wake, with a severe oscillation. Especially, during forwarding flights or when winds come from the side, compare to a simple hovering flight as the droplet is in the effect of aerodynamic drag force, the effect of spraying region becomes even larger. For this reason, the spraying of pesticides using drones may cause a greater risk of scattering or a difference in droplet dispersion between locations, resulting in a decrease in efficiency. Therefore, through proper numerical modeling and its applied simulation, an indication tool is required applicable for the various flight and atmospheric conditions. In this research, we completed both experiment and numerical analysis for the strong downwash from the rotor and flight velocity of the drone by comparing the probability density function of droplet distribution to build a spraying system that can improve the efficiency when spraying droplets in the pesticide spray drone.

Paraffin wax is attracting many attentions for promising solid fuel of hybrid rocket because of its higher regression than other fuels. However, even with paraffin fuel combustion, unsteady low-frequency oscillation of combustion pressure is still observed. And, this is related to the formation of liquid layer and the entrainment of fuel droplets entering the axial combustion gas flow. This study investigates the effect of additional combustion of fuel droplets on the occurrence of low-frequency combustion instability. On the other hand, the formation of fuel droplets depends on Weber Number (the ratio of the inertial force to the surface tension of the liquid) and Reynolds Number of the oxidizer flow. Therefore, a laboratory-scale hybrid rocket was used to monitor the occurrence of combustion instability while changing We number. A series of combustion tests were conducted to control We number by changing the oxidizer flow rate or adding LDPE (low density polyethylene) to base fuel. In the results, it was confirmed that there is a critical We number above which the low-frequency combustion instability occurs.

Light-weight or low-damped structures may encounter the unsteady galloping instability that occurs at low reduced wind speeds, where the classical quasi-steady assumption is invalid. Although this unsteady phenomenon has been widely studied for rectangular cross sections with one side perpendicular to the incidence flow, the effect of the mean wind angle of attack has not been paid enough attention yet. With four sectional models of different side ratios and geometric shapes, the presented research focuses on the effect of the wind angle of attack on unsteady galloping instability. In static tests, comparatively strong vortex shedding force was noticed in the middle of the range of flow incidence where the lift coefficient shows a negative slope. In aeroelastic tests with a low Scruton number, the typical unsteady galloping, which is due to an interaction with vortex-induced vibration and results in unrestricted oscillation initiating at the Kármán vortex resonance wind speed, was observed for the wind angles of attack that characterize relatively strong vortex shedding force. In contrast, for the wind angles of attack with relatively weak shedding force, an "atypical" unsteady galloping was found to occur at a reduced wind speed clearly higher than the Kármán-vortex resonance one. These observations are valid for all four wind tunnel models. One of the wind tunnel models (with a bridge deck cross section) was also tested in a turbulent flow with an intensity about 9%, showing only the atypical unsteady galloping. However, the wind angle of attack with the comparatively strong vortex shedding force remains the most unfavorable one with respect to the instability threshold in low Scruton number conditions.

Urban sewer systems are designed to operate in open-channel flow regime and energy loss at circular manholes are usually not significant. However, the energy loss at manholes, often exceeding the friction loss of pipes under surcharge flow, is considered as one of the major causes of inundation in urban area. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the head loss associated with manholes, especially in surcharge flow. Hydraulic experimental apparatus which can be changed the invert type(CASE A, B, C) and step height(CASE I, II, III) was installed for this study. The range of the experimental discharges were from $1.0{\ell}/sec$ to $5.6\;{\ell}/sec$. As the manhole diameter ratio($D_m/D_{in}$) increases, head loss coefficient increases due to strong horizontal swirl motion. Head loss coefficient was maximum because of strong oscillation of water surface when the range of manhole depth ratios($h_m/D_{in}$) were from 1.0 to 1.5. The average head loss coefficients for CASE A, B, and C were 0.45, 0.37, and 0.30, respectively. Accordingly, U-invert is most effective for energy loss reduction at circular manhole. This head loss coefficients could be available to design the urban sewer system with surcharge flow.

An out-of-step condition results from the loss of the synchronism of the generators. A disturbance in a power system causes the generator angle to oscillate. When there is a severe disturbance such as a heavy current fault loss of major generation or loss of a large block of load, the oscillation can be severe and even increase largely and finally the out-of-step condition may un. During the power swing and out-of-step conditions, the apparent impedance at a relay location changes, and the power flow also changes as the angle difference is varied. This paper presents a method to analyze the trajectory of complex power during a power swing and out-of-step condition. The trajectory of the complex power is analyzed when a power swings and a fault occurs. Moreover, the complex power is analyzed when the ratios between the voltages at both sides and the line impedances are changed. These methods are verified through simulation using the ATP/EMTP MODELS.
A computation was made to predict the movement of the thrust center position due to the rocket nozzle deflection. Three dimensional computations were done for the nozzle deflection angles of 0/1/3 degrees, and the oscillation of aerodynamic coefficients, not observed for the axisymmetric cases, was encountered. The position of the thrust center was found to be at -16 mm and -4 mm for the deflection angles of 1 and 3 degrees, respectively, and it can be concluded that the thrust center movement due to nozzle deflection is negligible. In addition to the computational results, the mechanism of thrust generation in a rocket engine is described with a brief mathematical derivation as it is sometimes mistaken. Also presented are some descriptions on the problem of pressure center definition for symmetric cases such as a rocket external flow problem and the nozzle deflection case.

A technique of mixing enhancement by using an elliptic jet screech reflector has been examined experimentally in an underexpanded sonic round jet where jet screech tone is generated. Since jet screech is known to enhance jet spreading, a reflector was designed to focus jet screech waves near the nozzle lip at an underexpanded jet. The reflector has an elliptic cross section of which one focus is located near the nozzle lip and the other in the jet screech source region in a plane including the jet axis. In the jet with the elliptic reflector, the mass flow rate showed a significant increase in the jet entrainment when compared to that for the small disk reflector. This was attributed to the increased screech amplitude near the nozzle lip as well as the mode change of the jet. The jet mixing was also increased by the amplified jet screech at two other underexpanded jets, but the jet oscillation mode did not change.
an isolated droplet combustion exposed to pressure perturbations in stagnant gaseous environment is numerically conducted. Governing equations are solved for flow parameters at gas and liquid phases separately and thermodynamic parameters at the interfacial boundary are matched for problem closure. For high-pressure effects, vapor-liquid interfacial thermodynamics is rigorously treated. A series of parametric calculations in terms of mean pressure level and wave frequencies are carried out employing a n-pentane droplet in stagnant gaseous air. Results show that the operating pressure and driving frequency have an important role in determining the amplitude and phase lag of a combustion response. Mass evaporation rate responding to pressure waves is amplified with increase in pressure due to substantial reduction in latent heat of vaporization. Phase difference between pressure and evaporation rate decreases due to the reduced thermal inertia at high pressure. In addition to this, augmentation of perturbation frequency also enhances amplification of vaporization rate because the time period for the pressure oscillation is much smaller than the liquid thermal inertia time. The phase of evaporation rate shifts backward due to the elevated thermal inertia at high acoustic frequency.
This paper presents a two-dimensional edge tone to predict the frequency characteristics of the discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle by the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (FDLBM). We use a new lattice BGK compressible fluid model that has an additional term and allow larger time increment comparing the conventional FDLBM, and also use a boundary fitted coordinates. The jet is chosen long enough in order to guarantee the parabolic velocity profile of the jet at the outlet, and the edge consists of a wedge with an angle of $\alpha=23^0$. At a stand-off distance $\omega$, the edge is inserted along the centreline of the jet, and a sinuous instability wave with real frequency f is assumed to be created in the vicinity of the nozzle and th propagate towards the downstream. We have succeeded in capturing very small pressure fluctuations result from periodically oscillation of jet around the edge. That pressure fluctuations propagate with the sound speed. Its interaction with the wedge produces an irrotational feedback field which, near the nozzle exit, is a periodic transverse flow producing the singularities at the nozzle lips. The lattice BGK model for compressible fluids is shown to be one of powerful tool for computing sound generation and propagation for a wide range of flows.

A fine tuning on a control system is essential not only for stable operation but also for efficient operation of the power plant. There has been a very few studies on efficiency change by control system tuning. So, it was not clear that if it could be improved or not when the control is stable by fine tuning and how much it could be improved if it works. An accurate algorithm for measurement of the plant efficiency was newly introduced and implemented to measure integrated fuel flow and electricity MW output and to calculate the mean efficiency for given time. As a result, stable operation after fine tuning of control parameters for major controlled variables brought higher efficiency than un-stable operations like a cycling or an oscillation. The plant efficiency has been monitored during various tests and tunings to confirm how much it changes by tuning of the control system on power plant. Now, we can say that the efficiency can be improved in stable operation by fine tuning of the control system.
