  • When Automobile runs high velocity, it causes sleepy velocity profile then that generates lift force and drag force. Lift force reduce tire friction force. Drag force increase consumed power. For improve automobile performance, reduction of Lift force and Drag force was seriously considered. It measured experimently using wind tunnel, numerically using numerical analysis. Finite difference method is using difference equation and simplifed mesh. This method require less calculation time and computer power than other method.

  • A new theoretical critical heat flux (CHF) model was developed for the forced convective flow boiling at high pressure, high mass velocity, and low quality. The present model for an intermittent vapor blanket was basically derived from the sublayer dryout theory without including any empirical constant. The vapor blanket velocity was estimated by an axial force balance, and the thickness of vapor blanket was determined by a radial force balance for the Marangoni force and lift force. Based on the comparison of the predicted CHF with the experimental data taken from previous studies, the present CHF model showed satisfactory results with reasonable accuracy.

  • Numerical solutions of Stokes flow through periodic arrays of cylinders were sought using Darcy's law and homogenization theory. Drag and lift forces of each cylinder were computed for various attack angles and pitch-to-diameter ratios. It was found that drag force decreased as principal pressure gradient direction deviated from array direction and that drag force increased exponentially as pitch-to-diameter ratio approached unity. Similar tendency was found in lift force except that lift force increased and then decreased in quadratic manner as attack angle varied.

  • In this research, spool valves with spiral grooves are suggested and their lubrication characteristics are investigated by numerical analysis. The three-dimensional flow field is obtained by solving the Navier-Stokes equations in dimensionless form, so that the performance variables such as lateral force, friction force and volume flow rate are determined. Also, the lubrication characteristics of spool valves with spiral grooves are compared with those with typical grooves under variable working conditions. It is shown that spool valves with spiral grooves can get better performance in aspect of mitigation of uneven pressure distribution surrounding spool. Moreover, it is found that the minimum distance between spool edges and grooves, the type of spiral groove, and the groove angle have noticeable effect on the lubrication characteristics.

  • The static force balance model (SFBM) has been used to analyze drop transfer in gas metal arc welding. Although the SFBM is capable of predicting the detaching drop size in the globular mode with reasonable accuracy, discrepancy between the calculated and experimental results increases with current. In order to reduce discrepancy, the SFBM is modified by considering the momentum of the molten metal flow, which is generated by the pinch pressure. The momentum increases with smaller drop size and becomes compatible to the electromagnetic force. The modified force balance model (MFBM) predicts the experimental results more accurately, and extends its application to the projected mode.

  • High-Speed Centrifugal Compaction Process (HCP) is a wet compacting method, in which powders are compacted under a huge centrifugal force. The HCP was well applied to small alumina specimens, but the compact easily cracked when we applied the HCP to other materials. We clarified how the cracks introduced and found that the formation of such a flow pattern was related to the Colioli's force in the centrifugal field.

  • We present a novel micropump of which pumping mechanism is based upon MHD (Magnetohydrodynamic) principle. The MHD micropump uses Lorentz force as pumping source. In the MHD micropump, Lorentz force is applied into initially stagnant conducting fluid to drive it in magnetic and electric field to flow in both directions. The performance of the MHD micropump is obtained by measuring the pressure head difference and flow rate as applied voltage changes from 10 to 60 V DC at 0.19 and 0.44 Tesla. The pressure head difference is 18 mm at 38 mA and the flow rate is 63 ${\mu}{\ell}$ /min at 1.8 mA when the inside diameter of inlet/outlet tube is 2 mm and the magnetic flux density is 0.44 Tesla.

  • The results of flow feature around two circular cylinders in various arrangements are carried out using two-dimensional simulation at Reynolds number of 200. In this work, time-averaged fluid force acting on the upstream and downstream cylinders were calculated for staggered angle ${\alpha}=0{\sim}90^{\circ}$ in the range of L/D = 1.1~5, where ${\alpha}$ is the angle between the free-stream flow and the line connecting the centers of the cylinders, L is centre-to-centre distance and D is cylinder diameter. The dependence of magnitudes and trends of fluid force coefficient on the spacing ratio L/D and ${\alpha}$ are discussed. In all arrangements of two cylinders, tandem arrangement (${\alpha}=0^{\circ}$) is the case produced a minimum drag coefficient for downstream cylinder. Moreover, the locations of separation and stagnation points or pressure coefficient on surface of the cylinder were examined. Numerical prediction analysis of propeller exciting force for hull-propeller-rudder system in oblique flow

  • In order to analyze the characteristics of propeller exciting force, the hybrid grid is adopted and the numerical prediction of KCS ship model is performed for hull-propeller-rudder system by Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) method and volume of fluid (VOF) model. Firstly, the numerical simulation of hydrodynamics for bare hull at oblique state is carried out. The results show that with the increasing of the drift angle, the coefficients of resistance, side force and yaw moment are constantly increasing, and the bigger the drift angle, the worse the overall uniformity of propeller disk. Then, propeller bearing force for hull-propeller-rudder system in oblique flow is calculated. It is found that the propeller thrust and torque fluctuation coefficient peak in drift angle are greater than that in straight line navigation, and the negative drift angle is greater than the positive. The fluctuation peak variation law of coefficient of side force and bending moment are different due to various causes.

  • In this study, the characteristics of the three-dimensional turbulence flow in a rotating square sectioned 90.deg. bend were investigated by numerical simulation. And a dimensionless number, Coriolis force ratio, primarily subjected to the feature of the flow in the rotating 90.deg. bend was obtained as a result of one-dimensional theory. In the simulation study, low Reynolds number ASM developed by Kim(1991) in the square sectioned 180.deg. bend flow was modified in order to consider the rotational effects in the testing flows. In the near wall region of low Reynolds number, four turbulence models were employed and compared in order to find the most appropriate model for the analysis of the rotating 90.deg. bend flow. By comparison of the results with the experimental data, it is shown that low Reynolds number Algebraic Stress Model with rotating terms reflects most correctly the rotational effects. As the results of this study, centrifugal forces associated with the curvature of the bend and Coriolis forces and centripetal forces associated with the rotation affect directly both the mean motion and the turbulent fluctuations. Their actions on the mean flow are to induce a secondary motion while their effects on turbulence are to modify the pressure strain.
