The simulation techniques of hydrologic data series have been developed for the purposes of the design of water resources system, the optimization of reservoir operation, and the design of flood control of reservoir, etx. While the stochastic models are usually used in most analysis of water resources fields for the generation of data sequences, the indexed sequential modeling (ISM) method based on generation of a series of overlapping short-term flow sequences directly from the historical record has been used for the data generation in western USA since the early of 1980's. It was reported that the reliable results by ISM were obtained in practical applications. In this study, we generate annual inflow series at a location of Hong Cheon Dam site by using ISM method and first order autoregressive model (AR(1)), and estimate the drought characteristics for the comparison aim between ISM and AR(1).

The flow in a microchannel is usually characterized as a low Reynolds number (Re) so that good mixing is quite difficult to be achieved. In this regard, we developed a novel chaotic micromixer, named Serpentine Laminating Micromixer (SLM) in the present study, Part 1. In the SLM, the higher level of chaotic mixing can be achieved by combining two general chaotic mixing mechanisms: splitting/recombination and chaotic advection. The splitting and recombination (in other term, lamination) mechanism is obtained by the successive arrangement of 'F'-shape mixing units in two layers. The chaotic advection is induced by the overall three-dimensional serpentine path of the microchannel. Chaotic mixing performance of the SLM was fully characterized numerically. To compare the mixing performance, a T-type micromixer which has the same width, height and length of the SLM was also designed. The three-dimensional numerical mixing simulations show the superiority of the SLM over the T-type micromixer. From the cross-sectional simulation results of mixing patterns, the chaotic advection effect from the serpentine channel path design acts favorably to realize the ideal lamination of fluid flow as Re increases. Chaotic mixing mechanism, proposed in this study, could be easily integrated in Micro-Total-Analysis-System, Lab-on-a-Chip and so on.

There is a major interest in diagnostic technology for multiple cancers worldwide. In order to reduce the difficulty of cancer diagnosis, a liquid biopsy technology based on a microfluidic device using trace amounts of biofluids such as blood is being studied. And optical biosensing, which measures the concentration of analytes through fluorescence imaging using biofluids, requires various strategies to improve sensitivity, and specialists and equipment are needed to carry out these strategies. This leads to an increase in diagnostic and production costs, and it is necessary to develop a technology to solve this problem. In this paper, we design and propose a fluorescent multi-cancer diagnostic sensing platform structure that implements passive self-separation technology and molecular recognition activation functions by fluid mixing, only with the geometry and microfluidic phenomena of microchannels based on self-driven flow by capillary force. In order to check the parameters affecting the performance of the plasma separation part of the designed sensor, the hydrodynamic diameter of the channel and the viscosity of the fluid were set as variables to confirm the formation of plasma separation flow through simulation. And finally, we propose an optimal sensor platform structure.

The analysis for unsteady flow is necessary to design the hydraulic structures affected by water level and discharge changes through time. The numerical model has been generally used for unsteady flow analysis, however it is difficult to acquire field data to calibrate and validate the numerical model. Even though it is possible to collect field data for some case, high cost and labor are required and sometimes it is considered that the confidence of measured data is very low. In this case, the experimental data for unsteady flow can be used to calibrate and validate the numerical model as an alternative. Therefore, the discharge-supply system which could generate various type of unsteady flow hydrograph was developed in this study. Also, the accuracy of the unsteady flow hydrograph generated by developed dischargesupply system in the experiment was evaluated by comparing with target hydrograph. Accuracy errors and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) were analyzed for the rectangular-type hydrograph with sudden changes of flow, triangular-type hydrograph with short peak time, and bell-type flood hydrograph. As a result, the generating error of the discharge-supply system for the rectangular-type hydrograph was about 59% which was maximum error among various types. Also, it was represented that RMSE for the triangular-type hydrographs with single and double peaks were approximately corresponding to 10%. However, RMSE for the bell-type flood hydrograph was lower than 2%.
The backward-facing step (BFS) is a benchmark geometry for analyzing flow separation occurred at the edge and resulting development of shear layer and recirculation zone that are occupied by turbulent flow. It is important to accurately reproduce and analyze the mean flow and turbulence statistics of such flows to design physically stable and performance assurance structure. We carried out 3D RANS computations with widely used, two representative turbulence models, k-ω SST and RNG k-ε, to reproduce BFS flow at the Reynolds number of 23,000 and the Froude number of 0.22. The performance of RANS computations is evaluated by comparing numerical results with an experimental measurement. Both RANS computations with two turbulence models appear to reasonably well reproduce mean flow in the shear layer and recirculation zone, while RNG k-ε computation results in about 5% larger velocity between the outer edge of boundary layer and the free surface above the recirculation zone than k-ω SST computation and experiment. Both turbulence models underestimate the shear stress distribution experimentally observed just downstream of the sharp edge of BFS, while shear stresses computed in the boundary layer downstream of reattachment point are agree reasonably well with experimental measurement. RNG k-ε modeling reproduces better shear stress distribution along the bottom boundary layer, but overestimates shear shear stress in the approaching boundary layer and above the bottom boundary layer downstream of the BFS.

Three liquid cooling heat exchangers for cooling of telecommunication equipment were designed and their cooling performances were tested. The liquid cooling heat exchangers had twelve rectangular channels $(5\times3 mm)$ with different flow paths of 1, 4, and 12. Silicon rubber heaters were used to provide heat flux to the test section. Heat input was varied from 75 to 400 W, while flow rate and inlet temperature of working fluid were altered from 1.2 to 4.0 liter/fin and from 15 to 3$30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The 4-path heat exchanger showed lower and more uniform average inner temperatures between heaters and the surface of heat exchanger than those of the others. To obtain optimal distribution of working fluid to each channels of liquid cooling heat exchangers, 2-3-2 and 4-3 type tube distributors were designed, and their distribution performances of working fluid were numerically and experimentally investigated. The distributor of the 2-3-2 type showed superior distribution performance compared with those of the 4-3 type distributor.

The combustion performance tests of a 30 tonf-class full-scale combustion chamber performed with water as a coolant were described. The combustion chamber has chamber pressure of 53bara and propellant flow mass rate of 90kg/s. Since it was first firing test for 30tonf-class combustion chamber using channel cooling, water coolant mass flow .ate of 35kg/s and 18kg/s were performed which correspond to 110% of kerosene design volume flow rate and equivalent cooling performance of kerosene. The test results are described and the results showed that the water cooling performance of this combustion chamber is sufficient and the firing test is feasible using the kerosene as a coolant.
In river design, consideration of bed shear stresses is necessary to secure stability of levee and floodplain. In this study distributions of bed shear stresses in compound open channels are analyzed through numerical simulation for various width and depth. LES solver in OpenFOAM is applied to 12 cases of compound channel shapes considering secondary flow which effects distributions of bed shear stresses. By the results time averaged velocity distributions, secondary currents, and distributions of bed shear stresses are analyzed. Overall distributions of bed shears in floodplain show that higher shear stresses are seen in left of floodplain and the shears decrease toward right of floodplain. However, high local variations in shear stresses are shown due to the secondary flow effects. In shallow floodplain, bed shear stresses show low value below 0.8 times of averaged bed shear. In deep floodplain, bed shear stresses show high value over 1.2 - 1.4 times of averaged bed shear.
This study presents channel design of a CDI stack to achieve high removal efficiency in a large scale by applying parallel flow structure with a concentrated stream. The flow pattern in the stack was simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics program. To prove the salt removal performance, a unit cell and 20 cell stacks were tested at a flow rate condition of 18 ml/min and 360 ml/min, respectively. The removal efficiencies of the unit cell and the 20 cell stacks were obtained as 70.8 % and 75.6 %, respectively, with 100 mg/L sodium chloride solution. During the operation of cell test, water pressures of unit cell and 20 cell pair stack maintained in the ranges of 1.1 psi and 1.3~1.5 psi, respectively. It was demonstrated that the parallel cell structure with two concentrated streams can be employed in a large scale CDI for salt removal.
Traffic risks in fairway and harbour area increase lately according to be a sharpe change of ship's size and speed. It becomes hot issue to design a fairway, which's width is important to lower traffic risk and ensure navigational safety. The current design making a fairway and width do not focus on maneuvering motion of a large ship, but traffic risks are clear on reflecting the design of fairway, specially on width. To contact with these problems, this research proposes how to determine fairway' width in consideration of traffic volume. it suggests several situations of marine traffic congestion as like narrow channel and harbour area. here uses 162 simulations in MTS Ver.1 developed. Acquired simulation's results, environmental stress dates, figure in a model that relates with required fairway' width and allowable traffic volume. In added, suggested model compares current design with an width.
