In this study, we predicted the thermal breakdown of high-voltage interrupter with the characteristics of thermal plasmas such as temperature, pressure and concentration of the ablated material by using a commercial CFD program. The results showed that the pressure build-up inside the chamber was proportional to the magnitude of arcing current because the quantities of heat energy and ablated mass also increase together with the current during the compression process. And during the decompression process, the reverse flow was not coincided with the magnitude of the applied current due to the compressibility of the gas through backflow channel. The present method is expected to be useful for the design of guideline and interruption capacity on the thermal breakdown of a PASB chamber.
To find out the optimum design of hydrogen storage and supply tank using Metal Hydride (briefly MH) and to make clear the performance characteristics under various conditions are our research purpose. In order to use the low-temperature exhaust heat, $LaNi_{4.7}Al_{0.3}$ which operates under the low pressure of 1MPa is chosen, and we measure the basic properties, namely density, specific heat, PCT(Pressure-Concentration-Temperature) characteristic, and effective thermal conductivity. Then, a numerical calculation model of hydrogen storage using MH alloy is suggested and this thermal diffusion equation of model is solved by the backward difference method. This calculation results rate compared with the experimental results of the systems which installed 1kg MH alloy and, it is found out that our calculation model can well predict the experimental results. By the experimental using MH alloy, it is recognized that the hydrogen flow rate can control by the step adjustment of brine temperature.

The rotor that initially converts the flow energy into rotational energy is a very important component that affects the efficiency of the entire tidal current power system. Rotor performance is determined by various design variables. Power generation is strongly dependent on the incoming flow velocity and the size of the rotor. To extract a large quantity of power, a tidal current farm is necessary with a multi-arrangement of devices in the ocean. However, the interactions between devices also contribute significantly to the total power capacity. Therefore, rotor performance, considering the interaction problems, needs to be investigated to maximize the power generation in a limited available area. The downstream rotor efficiency is affected by the wake produced from the upstream rotor. This paper introduces the performance of a downstream rotor affected by wakes from an upstream rotor, demonstrating the interference affecting various gabs between devices.

Heavy duty diesel vehicles deteriorate urban air quality by discharging a large volume of air pollutants such as soot and nitrogen oxides. In this study, a newly introduced auxiliary device a fuel activation device (FAD) to improve the combustion efficiency of internal engines by utilizing the cavitation effect was closely investigated by the fluid flow mechanism via a numerical analysis method. As a result, the FAD contributed to fuel atomization from the injection nozzle at lower inlet pressure by reducing the pressure energy. The improved cavitation effect facilitated fuel atomization, and ultimately reduced pollutant emission due to the decrease in fuel consumption. The axial velocity along the flow channel was increased 8.7 times with the aid of FAD, which improved the primary break-up of bubbles. The FAD cavitation effect produced 1.09-times larger turbulent bubbles under the same pressure and fuel injection amount than without FAD.
In this study a microchannel with various arrangement of blocks is newly proposed. This design comprises periodically arranged simple blocks. In this configuration, the stirring is greatly enhanced at a certain geometric parameter set. To characterize the flow field and the stirring effect both the numerical and experimental methods were employed. To obtain the velocity field, three-dimensional numerical computation to the Navier Stokes equations are performed by using a commercial code, FLUENT 6.0. The fluid-flow solutions are then cast into studying the characteristics of stirring with the aid of Lyapunov exponent. The numerical results show that the particles' trajectories in the microchannel heavily depend on the block arrangement. It was shown that the stirring is significantly enhanced at larger block-height and it reaches maximum when the height is 0.8 times the channel width. We also studied the effect of the block stagger angle, and it turns out that the stirring performance is the best at the block angel ${45^\circ}$.
The levee protect lifes, houses, and properties by blocking overflow of river. The revetment is forced to be covered on the slope of levee in order to prevent erosion. The stability of revetment is very important enough to directly connected to the stability of levee. In this study, the weak points of revetment on meandering channel were found by movable revetment experiment and the velocity and the water surface elevation (WSE) were measured at main points. The 3-D numerical simulations were performed under same conditions with experiment. And unclear flow characteristics by the limit of measuring instruments were analyzed through numerical simulation. Consequently, the section of large wall shear stress and the failure section are almost the same. Despite of small wall shear stress, the revetments located at right bank were carried away because of circulation zone due to secondary flow by meandering. With existing riprap design formula, the sizes of riprap determined using maximum local velocity were 1.5~4.7 times greater than them using mean velocity. As a result of this study, it is necessary to calculate the size of riprap in other ways for meandering and straight channel. At a later study, if the weighted value considered the radius of curvature and shape of hydraulic structure is applied to riprap design formula, it is expected that the size of revetment was evaluated rationally and accurately.

A Xenon Feed System (XFS) has been developed for hall-effect thruster to small satellite space-propulsion system applications. The XFS delivers low pressure gas to the Anode and Cathode of thruster head unit from a xenon storage tank. Accurate throttling of the propellant mass flow rate is independently required for each channel of the thruster head unit. The mass flow rate to each channel is controlled using the accumulator tank pressure regulation through a micron orifice and isolation valve. This paper discusses the Xenon Feed System design including the component selections, performance estimation and functional test.
The height and speed of the shock wave are critical data in flood-control operations or in the design of channel walls and bridges along rivers with high flow velocities. Therefore, a numerical model is needed for simulating flow discontinuity over a wide range of conditions. In this study, a governing equation. As a Riemann solver Roe(1981)'s one is used. The model employs the modified MUSCL for handling the unstructured grids in this research. this model that adopts the explicit tradditional twl dimmensional dam break problems, two hydraulic dam break model is simulations, and a steady state simulation in a curved channel. Conclusions of this research are as follows : 1) the finite volume method can be combined with the Godonov-type method that is useful for modeling shocks. Hence, the finite volume method is suitable for modeling shocks. 2) The finite volume model combined with the modified MUSCL is successful in modeling shock. Therefore, modified MUSCL is proved to be valid.
The design concept of a Small High-flux Multipurpose LBE(Lead Bismuth Eutectic) cooled Fast Reactor (SHMLFR) was proposed in the paper. The primary cooling system of the reactor is forced circulation, and the fuel element form is arc-plate loaded high enrichment MOX fuel. The core is cylindrical with a flux trap set in the center of the core, which can be used as an irradiation channel. According to the requirements of the core physical design, a series of physical design criteria and constraints were given, and the steady and transient parameters of the reactor were calculated and analyzed. Regarding the thermal and hydraulic phenomena of the reactor, a simplified model was used to conduct a preliminary analysis of the fuel plates at special positions, and the temperature field distribution of the fuel plate with the highest power density under different coolant flow rates was simulated. The results show that the various parameters of SHMLFR meet the requirements and design criteria of the physical design of the core and the thermal design of the reactor. This implies that the conceptual design of SHMLFR is feasible.

Climate change affects the safety of river revetments, especially those associated with external flooding. Research on slope reinforcement has been actively conducted to enhance revetment safety. Recently, technologies for producing embankment blocks using recycled materials have been developed. However, it is essential to analyze the impact of block shapes on the flow characteristics of exclusion zones for revetment safety. Therefore, this study investigates the influence of revetment block shapes on the hydraulic characteristics of revetment surfaces through 3D numerical simulations. Three block shapes were proposed, and numerical analyses were performed by installing the blocks in an idealized river channel. FLOW-3D was used for the 3D numerical simulations, and the variations in maximum flow velocity, bed velocity beneath the revetment, and maximum shear stress were analyzed based on the shapes of the revetment blocks. The results indicate that for irregularly sized and spaced revetment blocks, such as the natural stone-type vegetation block (Block A), when connected to the revetment in an irregular manner, the changes in flow velocity in the revetment installation zone are more significant than those for Blocks B and C. It is anticipated that considering the topographical characteristics of rivers in the future will enable the design of revetment blocks with practical applicability in the field.
