Many reservoirs in Korea and their downstream environments are under increased pressure for water utilization and ecosystem management from longer discharge of turbid flood runoff compared to a natural river system. Turbidity($C_T$) is an indirect measurement of water 'cloudiness' and has been widely used as an important indicator of water quality and environmental "health". However, $C_T$ modeling studies have been rare due to lack of experimental data that are necessary for model validation. The objective of this study is to validate a coupled three-dimensional(3D) hydrodynamic and particle dynamics model (ELCOM-CAEDYM) for the simulation of turbid density flows in stratified Daecheong Reservoir using extensive field data. Three different groups of suspended solids (SS) classified by the particle size were used as model state variables, and their site-specific SS-$C_T$ relationships were used for the conversion between field measurements ($C_T$) and state variables (SS). The simulation results were validated by comparing vertical profiles of temperature and turbidity measured at monitoring stations of Haenam(R3) and Dam(R4) in 2004. The model showed good performance in reproducing the reservoir thermal structure and propagation of stream density flow, and the magnitude and distribution of turbidity in the reservoir were consistent with the field data. The 3D model and turbidity modeling framework suggested in this study can be used as a supportive tool for the best management of turbidity flow in other reservoirs that have similar turbidity problems.

In this paper, a modeling and co-simulation methodology is proposed to predict the radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) from on-chip switching I/O buffers. The output waveforms of I/O buffers are simulated including the on-chip I/O buffer circuit and the RC extracted on-chip interconnect netlist, package, and printed circuit board (PCB). In order to accurately estimate the EMI, a full-wave 3D simulation is performed including the measurement environment. The simulation results are compared with near-field electromagnetic scan results and far-field measurements from an anechoic chamber, and the sources of emission peaks were analyzed. For accurate far-field EMI simulation, PCB power trace models considering IC switching current paths and external power cable models must be considered for accurate EMI prediction. With the proposed EMI simulation model and flow, the electromagnetic compatibility can be tested even before the IC is fabricated.

Green vehicles include electric vehicles, natural gas vehicles, fuel cell vehicles (FCV), and vehicles running on fuel such as a biodiesel or an ethanol blend. An FCV is equipped with a cylinder valve installed in an ultra-high pressure vessel to control the hydrogen flow. For this purpose, an optimum design of the solenoid actuator is necessary to ensure reliability when driving an FCV. In this study, an electromagnetic field analysis for ensuring reliable operation of the solenoid actuator was conducted by using Maxwell V15. The electromagnetic field analysis was performed by magnetostatic technique, according to the distance between magnetic poles in order to predict the attraction force. Finally, the attraction force was validated through comparison between the Maxwell results and measurement results. From the results, the error of attraction force ranged from 4.53 % to 9.05 % at testing conditions.

Despite of the laminar-turbulent transition region co-exist with fully turbulence region around the leading edge of an airfoil, still lots of researchers apply to fully turbulence models to predict aerodynamic characteristics. It is well known that fully turbulent model such as standard k-model couldn't predict the complex stall and the separation behavior on an airfoil accurately, it usually leads to over prediction of the aerodynamic characteristics such as lift and drag forces. So, we apply correlation based transition model to predict aerodynamic performance of the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) Phase IV wind turbine. And also, compare the computed results from transition model with experimental measurement and fully turbulence results. Results are presented for a range of wind speed, for a NREL Phase IV wind turbine rotor. Low speed shaft torque, power, root bending moment, aerodynamic coefficients of 2D airfoil and several flow field figures results included in this study. As a result, the low speed shaft torque predicted by transitional turbulence model is very good agree with the experimental measurement in whole operating conditions but fully turbulent model(${\kappa}-\;{\varepsilon}$) over predict the shaft torque after 7m/s. Root bending moment is also good agreement between the prediction and experiments for most of the operating conditions, especially with the transition model.

In the present study, a towed underwater particle image velocimetry (PIV) system was validated in uniform flow and used to investigate the free-surface effects on the turbulent wake of a simple surface-piercing body. The selected test model was a cylindrical geometry formed by extruding the Wigley hull's waterplane shape in the vertical direction. Due to the constraints of the two-dimensional (2D) PIV system used for the present study, the velocity field measurements were done separately for the vertical and horizontal planes. Using the measured data at several different locations, it was possible to identify the free-surface effects on the turbulent wake in terms of the mean velocity components and turbulence quantities. In order to provide an accuracy level of the data, uncertainty assessment was done following the International Towing Tank Conference standard procedure.
With regard to oversea mineral resources development, recent trend has been changed from a simple capital investment to a direct development of the resources. In relation to the stability of a slope in large open-pit coal mine, groundwater system was investigated and the validity of horizontal drainage hole was evaluated in Pasir coal mine, Indonesia. In this work, various field tests were carried out for a characterization of groundwater system, which included in-situ permeability measurement, tracer test and monitoring of groundwater levels. Especially, the influence of SM river on the characteristics of the groundwater flow system was mainly inspected. For the permeability measurement, Guelph permeameter was employed, and was found that sandstone was more permeable than mudstone and coal seam. From a comparison of lithological structure and the results of groundwater level monitoring, sandstone and thin coal seam with fractures were found to be a main channel for groundwater flow. In the results of tracer tests, the effect of SM river on the groundwater system depends on the geological structure of its base. To identify the effect of horizontal drainage holes, 2-D groundwater modeling was performed. Four different cases were tested, which are different from the length of drainage hole and the existence of pond on top of the slope. To enhance the drainage effect and slope stability, the drainage hole should be drilled to the depth of coal seam layer, which provides a main pathway of groundwater flow and embedded by sandstone. For this purpose, correct identification of surrounding geology should be preceded.
Dynamic pricing refers to a system in which a tariff varies, according to a level of charging and applied time depending on time change. The power billing system used in the Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is based on time of use (TOU) pricing, which is one of the dynamic pricing systems. This paper aimed to determine the operational results of a variable refrigerant flow system, to which a new control algorithm was applied, in order to respond to dynamic pricing, in summer and the utility of the new control. To do this, real measured data was acquired from a VRF system installed in a building for educational purposes, where dynamic pricing was applied for about 100 days during summer time. At the maximum load operation time period in TOU, the new control minimized operation within the indoor comfort range, an increase in refrigerant evaporation temperature in the indoor unit and the number of revolutions in a compressor in the outdoor unit was limited. As a result, power usage was decreased by 11%, and the operational cost by 14.6%. Furthermore, measurement results using the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) model, that represented satisfaction of thermal environment, showed that 82.8% to 90.4% of the occupants of the building were satisfied during operation when the new control was applied.

An investigation of the effects of transverse magnetic field and Peltier effect on melt convection and macrosegregation in vertical Bridgman crystal grosth of Te doped InSb was been carried out by means of microstructure observation, Hall measurement, electrical resistivity measurement and X-ray analysis. Before the experiments, Interface stability, convective instability and suppression of convection by magnetic field were calculated theoretically. After doping 1018, 1019 cm-3 Te in InSb, the temperature of Bridgman furnace was set up at $650^{\circ}C$. The samples were grown in I.D. 11mm, 100mm high quartz tube. The velocity of growth was about 2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/sec. In order to obtain the suppression of convection by magnetic field in the middle of growth, 2-4KG magnetic field was set on the melt. For searching of the shape of solid-liquid interface and the actual velocity of crystal growth, let 2A current flow from solid to liquid for 1second every 50seconds repeatedly (Peltier effect). The grown InSb was polycrystal, and each grain was very sharp. There was no much difference between the sample with and without magnetic field at a point of view of microstructure. For the sample with Peltier effect, the Peltier marks(striation) were observed regularly as expected. Through these marks, it was found that the solid-liquid interface was flat and the actual growth velocity was about 1-2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/sec. On the ground of theoretical calculation, there is thermosolutal convection in the Te doped InSb melt without magnetic field in this growth condition. and if there is more than 1KG magnetic field, the convection is suppressed. Through this experiments, the effective distribution coefficients, koff, were 0.35 in the case of no magnetic field, and 0.45 when the magnetic field is 2KG, 0.7 at 4KG. It was found that the more magnetic field was applied, the more convection was suppressed. But there was some difference between the theoretical calculation and the experiment, the cause of the difference was thought due to the use of some approximated values in theoretical calculation. In addition to these results, the sample with Peltier effect showed unexpected result about the Te distribution in InSb. It looked like no convection and no macrosegregation. It was thought that the unexpected behavior was due to Peltier mark. that is, when the strong current flew the growing sample, the mark was formed by catching Te. As a result of the phenomena, the more Te containing thin layer was made. The layer ruled the Hall measurement. The values of resistivity and mobility of these samples were just a little than those of other reference. It was thought that the reason of this result was that these samples were due to polycrystal, that is, grain boundaries had an influence on this result.
An accurate method of estimating ship maneuverability needs to be developed to evaluate precisely and improve the maneuverability of ships according to the water depth. In order to estimate maneuverability by a mathematical model. The hydrodynamic forces acting on a ship hull and the flow field around the ship in maneuvering motion need to be estimated. The ship speed new the berth is very low and the fluid flow around a ship hull is unsteady. So, the transient fluid motion should be considered to estimate the drag force acting on the ship hull. In the low speed and short time lateral motion, the vorticity is created by the body and grow up in the acceleration stage and the velocity induced by the vorticity affect to the body in deceleration stage. For this kind of problem, CFD is considered as a goof tool to understand the phenomena. In this paper, the 2D CFD code is used for basic consideration of the phenomena to solve the flow in the cross section of the ship considering the ship is slender and the water depth is large enough. The flow fields Added and hydrodynamic forces for the some prescribed motions are computed and compared with the preliminary experiment results. The comparison of the force with measurement is shown a fairly good agreement in tendency. The 3D Potential Calculation based on the Hess & Smith Theory is employed to predict the surge, sway added mass and yaw added moment of inertia of hydrodynamic coefficients for M/V ESSO OSAKA according to the water depth. The results are also compared with experimental data. Finally, the sway added mass of hydrodynamic coefficients for T/S HANNARA is suggested in each water depth.
In the local Universe, the gravitational effects of mass density fluctuations exert perturbations on galaxies' redshifts on top of Hubble's Law, called 'peculiar velocities'. These peculiar velocities provide an excellent way to test the cosmological model in the nearby Universe. In this talk, we present new cosmological constraints using peculiar velocities measured with the 2MASS Tully-Fisher survey (2MTF), 6dFGS peculiar-velocity survey (6dFGSv), the Cosmicflows-3 and Cosmicflows-4TF compilation. Firstly, the dipole and the quadrupole of the peculiar velocity field, commonly named 'bulk flow' and 'shear' respectively, enable us to test whether our cosmological model accurately describes the motion of galaxies in the nearby Universe. We develop and use a new estimators that accurately preserves the error distribution of the measurements to measure these moments. In all cases, our results are consistent with the predictions of the Λ cold dark matter model. Additionally, measurements of the growth rate of structure, fσ8 in the low-redshift Universe allow us to test different gravitational models. We developed a new estimator of the "momentum" (density weighted peculiar velocity) power spectrum and use joint measurements of the galaxy density and momentum power spectra to place new constraints on the growth rate of structure from the combined 2MTF and 6dFGSv data. We recover a constraint of fσ8=0.404+0.082-0.081 at an effective redshift zeff=0.03. This measurement is also fully consistent with the expectations of General Relativity and the Λ Cold Dark Matter cosmological model.
